Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- Presidents of different countries expressed support for the Korean people's just cause of national reunification when they met the DPRK ambassadors to their countries during Feb. 10-12.
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh hoped that under the unerring leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il the Korean people would overcome temporary difficulties and win victory in the work for prosperity and reunification of the country. The Yemeni government and people will continue to make efforts to develop the friendly relations with the Korean people, in the future, too, he said.

Romanian President Emil Constantinescu said Korea would be reunified under the wise guidance of Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, and wished him success in his work for the country's prosperity.
S. Korean authorities urged to take prompt, practical steps
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- Kang Yong Sop, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Christian Federation, published a statement on Sunday in support of the proposal which was put forth at a joint meeting of the DPRK government, political parties and organizations. In the statement Kang held that in South Korea pro-reunification patriotic organizations and personages should be provided with freedom of reunification movement and activities. This is one of priorities that should be implemented for wide-ranging dialogue between the north and the south and a new phase of national reunification, he said.
The statement went on to say: However, the South Korean authorities have called for "unconditional dialogue," unreasonably distorting the proposed priorities as "conditional." It only increases suspicion about their will for dialogue. They should ponder over the proposal of the joint meeting and take prompt, practical steps for implementing the priorities, as demanded by people at home and abroad. In particular, they must unconditionally remove legal and institutional mechanisms obstructive to free reunification movement and contacts of non-governmental organizations so that pro-reunification patriotic organizations and people may conduct their activities for reunification freely.
The statement expressed the firm belief that Christians as well as all the pro-reunification patriotic groups and people in the South Korea would actively join in the efforts to carry into practice the constructive proposal of the north intended to open a new phase of the country's reunification through independence and great unity of the nation this year.

Japan-S. Korea "fisheries pact" flailed
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) --The Korean Democratic Lawyers' Association released a statement on Sunday lashing out at submissive stance repeatedly taken by the South Korean rulers in concluding the treacherous "fisheries pact" with the Japanese reactionaries. The statement said: At "working-level negotiation," related to the treacherous "fisheries pact" signed with the Japanese reactionaries which was held in Seoul some time ago, the South Korean rulers meekly accepted the brigandish demands of the Japanese side for drastically reducing the scale of operations of South Korean fishing boats in joint fishing waters.
This has not only imposed serious curbs on operations in joint fishing waters of South Korean fishermen, deprived of their major fishing grounds, but also placed South Korea's fishing industry on the verge of total bankruptcy. Accordingly, it is a thrice-cursed criminal act of sacrificing even elementary vital rights of South Korean fishermen for the Japanese reactionaries' interests and reinvasion moves. Not content with their pro-American misdeeds, the present South Korean rulers are now engrossed in pro-Japanese treacherous acts, thereby placing South Korea's fishing industry on the verge of total bankruptcy and leaving fishermen jobless. The South Korean rulers must give up their pro-American, pro-Japanese flunkeyist policies and rescind at once the treacherous "fisheries pact" signed with the Japanese reactionaries.
Japan, instead of liquidating its past crimes imposed upon the Korean people, is robbing South Korean people of their fishing rights in collusion with the pro-Japanese flunkeyists and traitors. This is an extension of its vicious moves for reinvasion. We solemnly declare once again that the aggressive and brigandish "fisheries pact" signed between the Japanese reactionaries and South Korean rulers is a dead document.
Young builders running at canter
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) --The Pyongyang-Nampho Express Highway construction is now making brisk headway. The highway is more than 40 km long from Kwangbok Street (Mangyongdae fork) in the capital city of Pyongyang to the entry of a satellite city Nampho. It is two to three times as wide as Pyongyang-Wonsan, Pyongyang-Kaesong and Pyongyang-Hyangsan highways. The construction is undertaken by youth selected from across the country and servicemen of the Korean People's Security Force. It is being accelerated despite shortage of materials, equipment, oil and other things.
Most of road leveling and ground-cutting work is being done manually. Young builders, not satisfied with carrying clay on their backs, are cantering with clods of earth in their hands. They are trying to speed up the construction by setting up forges at construction sites to make tools like chisels in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. The Korean youth do whatever once they determine to do. The Pyongyang-Nampho Express Highway will appear as a splendid monumental edifice in the foreseeable future thanks to the youth running at canter.
Crowning commendation to great man
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- The President Kim Il Sung on February 16, 1992 composed an ode to General Secretary Kim Jong Il on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
The ode is as follows:
Jong Il Peak rises on Mt. Paektu
The blue waters of the Sobaek meander
Here, 50 years ago, the bright star was born.
A master with pen and sword, loyal and dutiful.
He commands respect and praise from all.
And the cheers for him rock heaven and earth.
In his lifetime, the President deeply moved by Kim Jong Il's unique greatness, wished to give the crowning glory to him. However, the President's wish could not be met owing to Kim Jong Il's modesty. This always weighed heavy on the President's mind. And the President determined to prepare gifts with his sincerity to congratulate General Secretary on his 50th birthday. So, he composed the ode and prepared a precious metal craft "Native home in secret camp on Mt. Paektu," a jade sculpture "Spirit of Korea" and an embroidery "Sun of Juche."
The precious metal craft "Native home in secret camp on Mt. Paektu" depicts Kim Jong Il's native home, trees around the home bearing slogans written by the communist revolutionary fighter Kim Jong Suk, Kimjongilia, azaleas and a pine tree with trailing branches against the background of Jong Il Peak. The jade sculpture "Spirit of Korea" depicts the figure 2 with gyrating cloud covering a globe and 16 horses led by Chollima (legendary horse) flying over cloud. The embroidery "Sun of Juche" portrays Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in the garden of over 130 national flowers centred on Kimilsungia, Kimjongilia and magnolia, which are in full bloom, with red glow as background.
The gifts fully reflect the President's wish for a long life in good health to General Secretary as well as high appreciation for the successor who has performed great exploits for the times and history. They are the most valuable commendation that the President gave to Kim Jong Il.

This support was also voiced by the Asian Regional Committee to Support Korea's Reunification, the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association, the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea, the Colombia-Korea Association of Friendship and Culture and Kim Jong Il Culture Center of Colombia in their respective joint statements and by the central committee of the Communist Party of Malta and the General Workers' Union of Guyana in their statements and the Corriverton Kim Il Sung Cricket Team of Guyana in its appeal.

S. Korean regime denounced for its traitorous acts
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Japan mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea made public a statement on Saturday, which said that the South Korean regime's acts in the past one year clearly showed its anti-national, anti-social and anti-reunification nature. The statement went on: The present chief executive of South Korea, faithful servant of the U.S. and the International Monetary Fund, sold out the South Korean market to monopolies of the U.S. And Japan, causing chain insolvency and bankruptcy, unprecedented joblessness and the greatest sufferings of the people. And he has harshly suppressed the people.
With outside forces the Kim Dae Jung regime has been hell-bent on strengthening "international cooperation system" and forming South Korea-U.S.-Japan triangular military alliance against the north. The statement strongly called upon all the anti-U.S., anti-"government" forces of South Korea to unite and conduct more vigorous struggle to save the people from distress, ease the touch-and-go situation of the Korean peninsula and open the way for reunification.
