Military power of DPRK is tremendous
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- "We know well the military power of the DPRK is tremendous and think this is the fruition of Kim Jong Il's policy of attaching priority to the army." Raul Castro Ruz, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, said this on Thursday when he met the delegation of political officials of the Korean People's Army headed by KPA general Pak Jae Gyong on a visit to Cuba.
He went on to say: The people and People's Army of Korea have fought against the U.S. for over half a century and always maintained a revolutionary and principled stand. Our experience and lesson are that we should never make concession to the U.S. The U.S. knows well about Korea and Cuba, so it is always hell-bent on stifling the countries. Korea's experience serves as an example for Cuba.
S. Korean war hawks hit for false propaganda
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Recently the South Korean "Minister of National Defense" said it was "necessary" to "increase combat power of military reservists" in order to keep the north from "turning to armed provocation against the south" and the "chief of general staff of the navy" cried for "perfect military preparedness" allegedly to cope with the north's "arms buildup" and "infiltration."
Rodong Sinmun today describes their remarks as powder-reeking. The news analyst says: The DPRK has nothing to do with the loud-mouthed "armed provocation," "arms buildup" and "infiltration." It is the South Korean war hawks that called the north "principal enemy," and are now stepping up war preparations in a bid to invade the north in conspiracy with outsiders. While watching for a chance for northward invasion with the backing of the U.S. aggressors, they are now raising outcries over the "threats of provocation" from the north. It is the height of impudence.
In making much ado about the deceptive "threats of southward invasion" they seek to justify their wildcat military actions against the north and sidetrack the people's deep-felt anger at them. The "threats" and "provocation" on their lips no longer go down with anyone. A mad dog deserves beating with a stick.
139th Chondoism anniversary
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- A "heaven day ceremony" was held on Monday at the Central Church of the Korean Chondoist Church on the 139th anniversary of Chondoism. A report was delivered by chairwoman of the Korean Chondoist Church Central Guidance Committee Tojong Ryu Mi Yong at the ceremony. She referred to the circumstances of the founding of Chondoism and the patriotic activities carried on by the Chondoists to realize the idea of "building up the nation and providing the welfare of the people" and "earthly paradise" after the foundation. Pointing to the tasks to materialize the idea of Chondoism under the present-day situation, she called upon all Chondoists to make a fresh turn this year in the struggle for building a powerful nation and in the movement for national reunification. On the same day, similar ceremonies were held at Chondoist temples in local areas.
Military tie-up between U.S. and Japan
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed commentary on Japan's recent movements for military tie-up with the United States. Branding this as an action intended to start a war of aggression on the DPRK, a news analyst of the paper says: Bills on "guidelines for Japan-U.S. defense cooperation" are under consideration at the diet of Japan. Synchronizing with this, it was disclosed that in 1994, the Defense Agency of Japan examined the issue of offering Japan's civilian airports and seaports to the U.S. troops in the "event of contingency" on the Korean peninsula.
Recently, a drill for evacuating American civilians from South Korea to Japan through Japan's civilian airports was held under the simulated conditions of "emergencies" on the Korean peninsula. And civilian companies of Japan and the U.S. troops promised to cooperate with each other in "case of emergency." By "emergencies", the U.S. and the Japanese reactionaries mean to provoke a war of aggression against the DPRK. What the Japanese reactionaries envisage in the war of aggression is to leave the whole territory of Japan to the tender mercy of the U.S. aggression forces.
It is only too clear that, if bills on the "Japan-U.S. defense cooperation guidelines" are endorsed, the military tie-up between the two countries will be stepped up on a full scale and it will develop into a war of aggression against the DPRK. It is a foolish miscalculation if Japan thinks it can go scot-free when it serves the U.S. troops as a sortie, logistics and rear base in case of war on the Korean peninsula. Japan could get off unhurt although it played a big criminal role in the past Korean War. But, it will never go scot-free this time. The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised not to ignore the warnings of the DPRK but ponder over them.
"People abducted by north" is fiction
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, the South Korean chief executive spun out a blast that the north-born unconverted long-term prisoners should be "exchanged" for "POWs of ROK army and those abducted by the north".
In this regard, Ri Son Phil, 33, who defected to the north on board the South Korean ship "202 Sungyong" in February Juche 80 (1991), said: In the north, there is not a single "man abducted by the north" claimed by the South Korean authorities. There are only the people who defected to the north in accordance with their faith and will. I am one of the defectors who came to the North Korea that boasts genuine human dignity, unable to live any longer in South Korea subjected to outside forces.
I was born in Jijuk-ri, Tohwa-myon in Kohung county, South Jolla Province. My parents made desperate efforts to eke out their life by digging out big shell-fishes, but the living conditions went from bad to worse. Gradually, I came to be disillusioned with the unfair South Korean society and defected to the north of my own accord in search of a worthy life in the northern society, people's paradise.
after the defection, I graduated from Pyongyang University of construction and building materials according to my choice and is now working at a construction enterprise in Pyongyang. I am enjoying a happy life with my wife and two kids in a three-room flat of a high apartment. I have no intention to return to corrupt South Korea.
The South Korean authority's insistence on "exchanging" the north-born unconverted long-term prisoners for "those abducted by the north" is an intolerable insult to us defectors to the north as well as a human rights abuse. It is preposterous to insist on "exchanging" the defectors to the north, who are unwilling to return to South Korea, for unconverted long-term prisoners, who earnestly hope to leave South Korea for the north where their families live.
Pyongyang, cradle of nation
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Jon Nam Gu, chairman of the South Korean Society for Upright National History, released an article "Pyongyang, cradle of nation." The article says: As a birthplace of the Korean nation, Pyongyang boasts of many historical relics proving human evolution. Pyongyang, where the nation's homogeneity formed and human civilization originated is the birthplace of the Koreans. No city in the world can match Pyongyang in its time-honored history and beauty.
Pyongyang has been a fortress to save the nation as transparent patriotic soul has been alive from ancient times and the spirit of fighting against aggression sky-high here. In the absence of a famous man, Pyongyang could not avoid a grief-stricken history. It was not until President Kim Il Sung was born in Mangyongdae in Pyongyang and rose as the sun of the nation that Pyongyang took on its original looks as the nation's native place and could shed its rays as a holy land of the Korean nation.
Since President Kim Il Sung made a triumphant return to the country after leading the 20-year-long anti-Japanese liberation war to victory, Pyongyang has been highly proud of being a holy city of the nation. He was the builder of the holy city of sun who created a new history of Pyongyang marked by dignity and honor. Pyongyang has become the world famous holy city because it is inspired by the spirit of patriotism of Kim Jong Suk, who was an anti-Japanese heroine, and blessed with the greatness of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
It is the great fortune of Pyongyang to hold in high esteem Kim Jong Il, a peerlessly great man, who is carrying forward the cause of President Kim Il Sung. Having Marshal Kim Jong Il, Pyongyang remains shining as the cradle of Juche, as a symbol of dignity and independence. The United States, that projects itself as the only superpower, dare not impair the dignity of Pyongyang.
Noting it is the world's only holy land of sun, the article stresses Pyongyang, where President Kim Il Sung, the great sun of the nation and mankind, is preserved in state, and there is Kim Jong Il, who carries forward the cause of sun, is the center of the earth and the axis of the times to which mankind is looking up. Pyongyang where Kim Jong Il is leading the sacred cause of national reunification, considering it as the most pressing and greatest patriotic task of the nation is a beacon of reunification.
Holding President Kim Il Sung and the leader Kim Jong Il in high esteem, Pyongyang is shedding its brilliant rays as the nation's eternal holy land and as the prospering capital city of sun.
Young scientists
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Young scientists play a significant role in developing sciences and technologies in Korea. Young scientists and technicians distinguished themselves manufacturing and successful launch of the satellite "Kwangmyongsong 1" and the production of the electron microscope of 300,000 magnifications. They are also making eye-catching successes in various scientific fields.
Pak Jong Ho, a young scientist at the laser institute of the Academy of Sciences, received the Title of Labour Hero of the DPRK some time ago. He succeeded in research into an optical element used in laser of super-precision instrument, upgrading the quality of optical element to world standards. Hwang Chol Gyu, a room chief of the branch of the light industry science under the Academy of Sciences, succeeded in modernizing the dyeing process through world-level invention and O Chol Gyu at the mathematics institute under the Academy of Sciences made a big contribution to economic construction by opening a new phase of ultra-modern calculating program. They are all young scientists who graduated from universities a few years ago.
There are numbers of holders of academic degrees and titles among young scientists who play a key role in study of modern sciences. A national meeting of scientists and technicians was held in Pyongyang at the end of March this year. Speeches of young scientists at the meeting attracted the attention of the participants. The meeting signaled that the prospect of the scientific and technological development in the 21st century is very bright with Korea's promising young scientists. Young scientists of Korea are now devoting all their energy and wisdom to building a powerful nation with scientific achievements.

Anachronistic outburst of Japan's senior official denounced
Tokyo, April 5 (KNS-KCNA) -- Ryu Kwang Su, director of the department for the livelihood of compatriots of the central standing committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), made public a statement on April 2 denouncing the director general of the Public Security Investigation Agency for letting loose an anti-Chongryon diatribe at the diet, raising a hue and cry over "danger of violent subversive activities", according to Joson Sinbo today.
He noted that since its formation Chongryon, an overseas organization of the DPRK, has consistently abided by the principle of not meddling in Japan's internal affairs and conducted activities for defending the democratic and national rights of compatriots and for friendship between the two peoples of the DPRK and Japan. This outburst openly revealed the ulterior intention of the Japanese authorities to closely watch and restrict activities of Chongryon and compatriots in Japan, always considering them as harassers of public peace, and to suppress them in case of emergency. He urged the Japanese authorities to correct their anachronistic policy against the DPRK and to stop the anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon campaign at once.
Woman int'l football referee
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- The Mangyongdae Cup soccer game is now going on at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang. The highlight of the game is a woman referee. She is Yang Mi Sun (29), the merited athlete and international referee. Well-proportioned in figure, light-footed and refined in action, she is every inch a football player.
She was born and grew in Pyongyang. Like her father, she took a fancy to football from her childhood. Her father is Yang Song Guk, the merited athlete who displayed admirable skill in the 8th London World Cup series and other games. While studying at the Pyongyang Inhung Senior Middle School, she started playing the football. After graduating from the school, she was selected as a member of a team in 1987 just after the women football team was organized in Korea.
At the 11th Asian Games held in China and other Asian women's soccer championships in Japan and Malaysia, she showed a neat and well-coordinated play. Since 1997 she acted as a national referee. The following year she was chosen for an international referee for the 13th Asian Games. With rich experience both as a player and referee, she is correct in judgement. In the game she is a strict referee, but is always optimistic in daily life. Now she is working for the Korean Football Federation.
Program of national reunification
Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the 6th anniversary of the publication of the "10-point program of the great unity of the whole nation for the reunification of the country" by the President Kim Il Sung. The 10-point programme of the great national unity comprehensively indicates the aim, ideo-political basis and principle of great national unity and tasks and methods to implement it. It is an immortal encyclopedia of great national unity which shows the nearest way of national unity and reunification and a beacon of national reunification.
The article says that it is a great exploit and distinguished achievement made by the President in the efforts to attain the great national unity and the cause of national reunification that he put forward the 10-point programme of the great national unity. The whole nation should achieve the great national unity on the principle of national independence, it says, and goes on: The whole nation should thoroughly reject flunkeyism and dependence on foreign forces and achieve the great national unity on the principle of national independence and thus accelerate national reunification.
All compatriots in the north, south and abroad should closely unite under the banner of patriotism and national reunification irrespective of ideology, system, political view and religious belief and interests of class and circle. Pro-reunification democratic forces at home and abroad should substantially promote solidarity among compatriots in the north, south and abroad through such meetings for national reunification as the pan-national meeting and grand reunification festival of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification.
Inter-Korean dialogue should serve the aim of national unity and national reunification. The South Korean authorities should immediately implement priorities for the opening of wide-ranging inter-Korean dialogue put forth by the DPRK. Minju Joson today also dedicates an article to this commemoration day.
