Meetings commemorate Kim Il Sung's birthday
Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- Meetings to commemorate the 87th birth anniversary of the President Kim Il Sung were held in provinces, cities and counties and at units of the three services of the Korean People's Army (KPA) on Wednesday.
Present there were leading officials of local party, power organs and working people's organizations, working people of different social standings, commanding officers of units of the three services of the KPA and their soldiers.
Reporters that said the birth of the President Kim Il Sung was a solemn historic sunrise which threw rays of national liberation and rebirth over the gloomy land of Korea and a great event which brought about a radical turn in the history of shaping destinies of the people. Referring to the exploits performed by Kim Il Sung, they noted that he built a powerful driving force of the revolution and the best socialist system which the people consider as their life and soul. Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- 1,100 copies of literature@carrying a Portrait of the President Kim Il Sung were scattered in central, Mapho and Kangnam districts of Seoul on April 14, on the eve of Sun's Day, according to a radio report from Seoul. Printed on the front of the literature was a color portrait of the President and on the back were words of a song "Let's sing of Sun's Day."
Cuban ambassador hosts reception
Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- Cuban ambassador to Korea Jose Manuel Inclan Embade on Wednesday hosted a reception at the embassy on the occasion of Sun's Day. Invited were Honorary vice-President of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly Pak Song Chol and other officials concerned.
The Cuban ambassador said that the august name of the respected leader Kim Il Sung, the great man of the world, occupies the most brilliant place in the world revolutionary movement and the history of the anti-imperialist struggle for his great achievements. Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun said that to strengthen and develop the traditional friendly and cooperative relations with Cuba generation after generation is the intention of the great leader Kim Il Sung in his lifetime and the unshakable will of the respected Marshal Kim Jong Il. He further said: The DPRK will make all its efforts to steadily develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries on the basis of the cordial relations between Kim Jong Il and Fidel Castro Ruz. Ceremony held to preserve car sent by Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of preserving a car sent by the President Kim Il Sung to the first Cuban ambassador to Korea was held at the Cuban embassy here on April 14. The embassy officials have serviced and preserved the car sent by the President in its original state in order to convey his noble sense of internationalist obligation down to posterity on the occasion of Sun's Day, a significant holiday common to humankind.

Symposium "the present times and the national culture" held
Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- The 2nd symposium on "present times and national culture" was held here on Wednesday. The symposium was attended by chairman of the c.c., the General Federation of the Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea Jang Chol, officials concerned, foreign men and women of culture and art and overseas. Korean artistes who are participating in the 17th April Spring Friendship Art Festival. At the symposium, Jang Chol delivered a report on ushering in a new era of independent national art by properly carrying forward and developing national cultural heritage.
He recalled national cultural heritage has been properly carried forward and developed in Korea under the wise leadership of the President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Korean national art, which is vibrant with the soul and spirit of Korea and its fragrance, is noble and national in its nature that strikes the world people with admiration, and belongs to cultural treasure of mankind, he said.
The Korean men and women of culture and art will strengthen solidarity, cooperation and exchange with the world's progressive men and women of culture and art, guided by the idea of independence, peace and friendship and positively support and encourage them in their efforts to build independent national culture and art, he noted, calling for strenuous efforts to frustrate the imperialists' moves for war of aggression and their ideological and cultural poisoning and build a new world, peaceful and independent.
Taking the floor at the symposium were Korean musical critic Kim Tuk Chong, chairman Kim Jong Su of the central standing committee of the Union of Korean Literary Men and Artists in Japan, poet V.S. Kraulin, vice-chairman of the "Peace and Today" Committee of Russia, Prof. And Dr. Shafwat Kamal of the Research Center of the Folk Academy in Cairo and g. Namsuren, director for research of Mongolian University of Culture and Art.
The speakers introduced successes and experience gained in carrying forward national cultural heritage and building national art and touched on the issues of revitalizing the national art movement. They were of the view that for each country and nation to carry forward and develop their national cultural heritage on the principle of independence and historicism is the way of making a substantial contribution to adding shine to national art and enriching the art treasure of mankind.
They underscored the need to further strengthen the solidarity and cooperation among the progressive men and women of culture and art in order to preserve and develop national art.

Central meeting of Koreans in Japan held
Tokyo, April 14 (KNS-KCNA) -- A central meeting of Koreans in Japan was held in Tokyo on Wednesday on the occasion of the 87th birth anniversary of the President Kim Il Sung. Present at the meeting were chairman Han Tok Su and chief vice-chairman Ho Jong Man of the central standing committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and other officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
Han Tok Su stressed in his address at the meeting that Koreans in Japan should uphold the President Kim Il Sung as the eternal sun of Juche and work hard for the prosperity and development of their homeland under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Party and state leading officials pay homage to Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, April 15 (KCNA) -- Party and state leading officials visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace today, Sun's Day, to pay homage to the President Kim Il Sung. Among the visitors were Kim Yong Nam, Ri Jong Ok Pak Song Chol, Hong Song Nam and other party and state leading officials, members and alternate members of the C.C., the Worker's Party of Korea in Pyongyang, senior officials of the party and armed forces organs, power bodies, public organisations, ministries and national institutions.
A floral basket was laid before the statue of the President in the joint name of the Central Committee of the WPK, the Party Central Military Commission, the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the cabinet of the DPRK.
