Kim Jong Il inspects cattle farm
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the expanded Myonggi Cattle Farm in Songam. Kim Jong Il first went to the cattle sheds of the farm which had been in normal operation since its construction 2 years ago. He learned about the management and operation of the farm, inquiring about the feed supply system, veterinary disinfection, weight gaining rate of beef cattle and other matters in breeding.
He noted with great satisfaction that the employees of the farm had produced a large amount of beef in a short span of time since the commissioning of the farm and sent it to soldiers and civilians. He appreciated their exploits. He went to the cattle sheds and other objects newly built by soldiers within the framework of the second project. And he noted with great satisfaction that the soldiers had successfully completed the vast project on modern lines in a little more than a year. At the end of the inspection, he put forward important tasks to develop the nation's stock-breeding onto a new stage.
He recalled that chicken, duck, pig and cattle farms and other solid stock-breeding bases had been built in different parts of the nation and that tremendous achievements had been made in livestock production. He called for bringing about a new turn in the development of stock-breeding in order to provide the Korean people with best meals.
He said that in order to enhance the efficiency of investment in stock-breeding, the breed problem should be resolved decisively by nursing excellent breeds suited to the specific conditions of Korea. He also said that good feed bases should be built, the breeding be put on a scientific and technological basis and veterinary disinfection be ensured.
He earnestly called on the officials, party members and other working people in the sector of stock-breeding to fulfil their tasks and supply larger quantities of meat, eggs and other nutritious non-staple food to the Korean people who devotedly work for the prosperity of the socialist motherland established by the President Kim Il Sung.
He was accompanied by KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and col. general Ri Myong Su. The visiting party also included first vice department directors of the Worker's Party of Korea Central Committee Ri Yong Chol, Jang Song Thaek and Choe Chun Hwang.

Japanese authorities' attitude condemned
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- At the 55th Meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights held in Geneva on April 14 delegates of international non-governmental organizations denounced the Japanese authorities for evading state responsibility and compensation for the criminal use of "comfort women for the army." A delegate of the International Fellowship for Reconciliation said the Japanese authorities refused to admit their past crimes and that Japan's use of sex slaves for the army was a typical state-sponsored assault on women. A delegate of the Asian Council of Women's Human Rights appealed to the governments of all countries and international non-governmental organizations to make joint efforts to pressurize the Japanese government into admitting its past crimes and implementing international recommendations in this regard.
South Korean delegates arrive
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- Vice-president of the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and chairman of its unification committee Ri Kyu Jae and member of its unification committee Jo Jun Ho arrived here on Tuesday. They were warmly greeted at the airport by vice-chairman of the central committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK) Ri Jin Su and officials concerned.
A large number of Pyongyangites warmly welcomed the delegates of the South Korean workers at the airport and along the route, who have come to Pyongyang with the desire for reunification for the first time since the Korean nation was divided into two.
Upon their arrival at the airport, the delegates expressed their gratitude representing 600,000 members of the KCTU, saying the working class of the south and the north had thus met each other for the reconciliation and the great unity of the nation and for national reunification.
On the same day, the delegates paid a courtesy call on chairman of the central committee of the GFTUK Ryom Sun Gil. A reception was given in honor of the delegates by the c.c., GFTUK that day.
S. Korea hit for sentencing Hwang Son to jail term
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- The secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in information bulletin no. 785 denounced the South Korean authorities for sentencing to imprisonment Hwang Son, a delegate of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon), on charges of violation of the "National Security Law"("NSL").
Hwang Son visited Pyongyang last year to take part in the August 15 events for reunification, the joint expedition to historical relics in the north and an academic seminar in the capacity of a delegate of Hanchongryon. According to the information bulletin, the South Korean authorities sentenced her to imprisonment on charges of "praise, encouragement, meeting and communication" banned by the "NSL".
This is a premeditated and intentional repressive action to totally block the reunification patriotic movement of the South Korean students and disorganize and destroy Hanchongryon, a just patriotic organization, by connecting her with the north on the absurd charge of being "pro-north" and "benefiting the enemy". Hwang Son's visit to Pyongyang can never be a crime as it was a praiseworthy one for national reconciliation, unity and reunification.
The action taken by the present South Korean authorities clearly proves that they are an anti-reunification group much worse than the preceding military fascist dictators and the "civilian"-veiled dictator, though they are giving lip-service to "reconciliation" and "cooperation".
They must unconditionally set free all the unreasonably arrested patriotic students and pro-democracy figures including Hwang Son and repeal the "NSL", an anti-reunification fascist law, at once as unanimously demanded by the people at home and abroad.
Happy Korean macrobians
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- Recently, Sin Myo Song who lives in a mountain village of Sohung county, North Hwanghae Province, was honored by the General Secretary Kim Jong Il with a 100th birthday party. Some time ago, Ri Song Nyo, a citizen in Tongdaewon district of Pyongyang, and Jon Bong Hak residing in Kim Chaek city, North Hamgyong Province, celebrated their 100th birthday amid best wishes of many people.
State care for old folks is getting deeper than ever before in the DPRK though all the people are in the process of the arduous forced march launched due to the natural disasters that have hit the country for several consecutive years. Kim Jong Il honors each and every centenarian with a 100th birthday party, saying the country is proud of having one centenarian after another. And he took a series of measures to ensure that health care institutions across the country take special care of them.
Geriatric departments operating at all provincial medical university hospitals regularly register macrobians in their Provinces and conduct medical check-up on them. National hospitals are treating those registered, regardless of their abodes. The state took a measure to ensure an uninterrupted supply of rice to those of over 90, although the food situation remained very difficult in recent years.
The number of macrobians is on a steady increase in Korea thanks to the most popular policy and the best health care system of the Worker's Party of Korea and the DPRK government.
S. Korean hit for their crackdown upon labor actions
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- Papers here today run commentaries bitterly condemning the South Korean rulers for their fascist suppression of the worker's struggle for the right to existence.
Recently, the South Korean chief executive issued a repressive order, crying the Seoul Subway strike "should not be allowed" and "it should be toughly dealt with." This was followed by the release of a "joint statement to the nation" by bosses of the ministries of labor, administrative autonomy and justice in which they said it was their stand to take a strong countermeasure against the strike of workers.
A signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun says: The fascist police hurled its forces into the sites of Seoul Subway strike and sit-in strike of unionists by order of its bosses. This once again lays bare the authority's true colors as anti-worker, anti-social rulers.
The reality clearly teaches the South Korean workers that they should not harbor even the slightest illusion about the rulers and can achieve their right to existence only through a united struggle. The authorities should stop at once their fascist suppression of the just struggle of the South Korean workers. Minju Joson also demands an end to the fascist crackdown upon their just struggle.
Master writer produced by Korea
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- Paek In Jun was a master writer produced by Korea. He was a man of great proficiency in the creation of literary works. With an over 5 decade long career as a writer behind him, Paek created at least 20 scenarios, more than 10 librettos and plays as well as famous words for scores of songs.
When the country was liberated on August 15, 1945 he wrote his first lyric "We call you our sun" in Pyongyang. This was followed by his anthologies "Ode to the People" and "the Voice of Simple People." His poem "When I recall his esteemed name" and paean "I wish the leader a long life in good health" were among so many poems and famous words of songs that saw the light afterwards.
Paek cut a conspicuous figure in the creation of Korean scenarios. "The Sun of the Nation", "the Life-Guard" and "the Path to Awakening" are only some of many scenario masterpieces written by him. They taught the Korean people the profound truth of struggle and life and powerfully encouraged them in the revolution and construction.
In the meantime, he adapted "the Flower Girl" and other immortal classic masterpieces for revolutionary operas and wrote the satire "America Stripped Naked" in 1960 and other masterpieces reflecting the needs of the times. Though bedridden till he breathed his last, paek wrote lyrics "the Birth of the Sun", "Broad Smile" and "Eternal Chorus" and so on.
He was member of the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea, deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly and its vice-chairman, chairman of the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, chairman of the c.c., of the General Federation of Unions of Literature and Arts of Korea and chairman of the c.c., of the Korean Writers Union, and so on.
He was a recipient of "Kim Il Sung order," "Kim Il Sung prize" and "national reunification prize" and a labour hero.
President Kim Il Sung, eternal sun of the nation
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- The President Kim Il Sung is the eternal sun of the Korean nation, who founded the immortal Juche idea, the revolutionary banner for the era of independence, and turned its members into masters and shapers of their own destinies and led them with the bright rays of the idea, stresses Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
The paper says: President Kim Il Sung is a great man produced by heaven in the real sense of the word, whom nobody in the world can match in his great ideas, personality, noble traits and virtues. Basing himself on the immortal Juche idea, he clarified the most just and reasonable principles and ways of national reunification. Among them are the three principles of national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--and their embodiment, the proposal of founding the democratic confederal republic of Koryo and the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation.
He founded the Juche idea with an insight into the urgent demand of the times and aspiration of the people and developed it into a guiding idea for the times and the nation through his distinguished ideo-theoretical activities and revolutionary practice. Under the banner of this idea he waged a hard and bloody fight against the Japanese imperialist aggressors, camping out in the vast Mt. Paektu area so as to liberate the country. He also defeated the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces which invaded the DPRK, and demonstrated the dignity of the independent nation.
He is the eternal sun of independence that freed the Korean nation from the abyss of humiliation and subordination and made it a dignified independent nation, with his extraordinary leadership ability and politics of independence. He, the great thinker and theoretician and statesman, put forth the idea of preserving the Juche character and national character for the first time in history and led the cause of national independence to victory by successfully applying it.
He is also the sun of benevolent love who regarded as his lifelong maxim the idea "the people are my god" and took care of the fellow countrymen with politics based on warm love for the nation and people. Our anthropocentric society where the people are masters of everything and everything serves them is a brilliant fruition of President Kim Il Sung's popular politics. And the society pervaded with human love, in which all of the people help and lead each other forward like one big harmonious family, is the result of his benevolent politics.
Indeed, our fatherly leader Kim Il Sung is the sun of love who devoted his all to the people and to the fellow countrymen.
The cause of national independence, started and led by him, and his enduring feats for the country and the nation are successfully carried forward and defended by the great leader Kim Jong Il to shine forever.
Testimony of defectors to north
Pyongyang, April 28 (KCNA) -- The defectors to the north are unanimous in declaring that they "were neither taken prisoner nor abducted by the north," but settled in the north of their own accord.
Jon Yong Ryul, 70, in Ryongchon county, North Phyongan Province, said he had been an artilleryman of the South Korean Army before crossing the frontline on September 18, 1950 to join the People's Army and fought with the enemies. He described the army as a herd of gangsters in military uniform. He further said: It was a commonplace that officers beat private soldiers and put them to physical torture. A lot of people were crippled by the beating and physical torture. Unable to bear such humiliation, I made up my mind to break with the army. So, I defected to the north, ready to risk my life.
Ham Nam Gi, 55, in Sinuiju city, North Phyongan Province, had this to say: South Korean fishermen could hardly expect any delight in their life. Fishing often led to death. With warships engaging themselves in military maneuvers fishing was dangerous. Fishermen eked out their living. On November 30, 1968 I was at sea off Kosong, Kangwon Province, aboard a fishing boat "Ryongmaeng." Availing myself of that opportunity, I defected to the north.
Jong Jang Baek, 50, in Ryongchon county, North Phyongan Province, said: I kept the pot boiling by fishing aboard a fishing boat "Changyong." The South Korean fishermen are forced to battle with the wind and waves for the rich. More fishermen lost their lives than those who survived. I was determined to defect to the north at the risk of my life rather than keep on such a life. Ready to die, I got aboard a ship on April 16, 1968 and defected to the north.
The defectors, who enjoy a happy life under the care of the DPRK government, denounced the South Korean authorities for describing the former as "those who were taken prisoner or abducted by the north."
