S. Korean workers urged to unite and fight

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The director of the worker-peasant department of the central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea issued a statement on April 30 to mark May Day, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation reported. He denounced the present regime for trying to block the massive action of the 10 million workers, stifle the mounting labor movement and ensure government security with May Day as an occasion.
He said: The workers have courageously risen in massive struggle to restore their right to existence and lead a minimum of worthy life. This is an absolutely just exercise of their right. The "people"-veiled authorities must renounce the labor policy that kills the workers, unconditionally accept their just demands and immediately stop the suppression of workers.
The workers must fight to the last till their vital demands for a stop to the present regime's unilateral "restructuring" and lay-off, for wage hike and for freedom of democratic labor union activities are met. The 10 million workers must unite firm, fight out for vital rights and democracy and develop this struggle into a struggle to oppose the "people"-veiled authorities and frustrate the colonial economic trusteeship of the United States, on which the authorities depend.

May Day significantly observed in Korea

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- May Day, the international holiday of workers all over the world, has been significantly marked in Korea. A meeting for commemorating the 109th May Day was held at the work-site of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex with the attendance of senior party and state officials on May 1.
Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the c. c. of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, addressing the meeting, said that the Korean working class and other people could be ever victorious as they held the respected Kim Il Sung in high esteem as the outstanding leader and the great sun of the nation.
The great leader Kim Jong Il has brightly indicated the road ahead of the working class in each period and each stage of the developing revolution, and made the working class the resolute standard-bearer of the red flag, steadfast defender and able builder of socialism, the reporter said, and went on: The whole working class and other people should vigorously turn out in the struggle to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, the greatest desire of the nation, in reliance upon the great unity of the whole nation under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il and further strengthen international solidarity with the working class of the whole world in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
That day Kim Yong Nam, Pak Song Chol, Hong Song Nam and other senior party and state officials went to the Pyongyang Thermal Power Complex, the Taean Heavy Machine Complex, the Songjin Steel Complex, the Kum Song General Tractor Works, other factories and enterprises to congratulate the workers on May Day, participated in multifarious sports and entertainment events and dropped in at dormitories and houses of the workers.
On the same day performances were given by artistes at parks and pleasure grounds in the capital city and in local areas.

South Korean workers' anti-"government" struggle vowed

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held a national rally of workers in Seoul on Saturday with tens of thousands of unionists and students in attendance, strongly demanding the "government" authorities suspend the unilateral "restructuring" and lay-off, etc., a Seoul-based report said.
Ri Kap Yong, chairman of KCTU, addressing the rally, stated that there is no room for the workers to step back as they are deprived of their right to existence and that 17 trade unions under the confederation would launch a May all-out struggle on coming 12th, centering on the strike of unionists of the Federation of Metal Industry Trade Unions and the Federation of Hospital Workers Unions. He reclarified the KCTU's position to launch an anti- government" struggle unless its demands are met.
In another development, the Federation of South Korean Trade Unions held a labour day rally with over 2,000 unionists participating in it at which it adopted a resolution demanding the suspension of the unilateral "restructuring" and the guarantee of vital rights to workers and so on and vowed to turn them into political forces. In the meantime, at least 3,500 students of well over 40 universities from different parts of South Korea had a festival on Friday on the eve of labour day.

TMD scheme flailed

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea issued a statement on April 29 denouncing the U.S. and their stooges for planning to set up a Theatre Missile Defence system, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation reported.
The statement says the U.S.-projected TMD system poses grave threat to world peace and security. It brands the TMD scheme of the U.S. and their stooges as a heinous crime that disturbs world peace and security and seriously threatens the existence of the Korean nation and humankind. The governments, political parties, organisations and peaceloving people of all countries should lift up voices against U.S. moves of aggression and war wherever they may live, should determinedly terminate all dependent and unequal relations with the U.S. and should deal a collective counter-blow to the U.S., the statement emphasizes.

Sudanese government delegation feted

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government gave a reception for the Sudanese government delegation at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in the last evening. It arrived here on Saturday. DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun in his speech said today the Sudanese government and people are vigorously striving to achieve political stability and prosperity of the country and build new Sudan under the leadership of the respected President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir.
The DPRK government will as ever firmly unite with friendly Sudan and other countries of the world which advocate independence and energetically struggle to foil the aggression and war maneuvers of the imperialists and build a new peaceful and independent world, he stressed.
Mustafa Osman Ismail, Sudanese Foreign Minister who is leading the delegation, said he has come to the DPRK to further the friendship between the two countries forged by the great leader President Kim Il Sung. He went on: His excellency Kim Il Sung was the leader of not only the Korean people but the Asian, African and all other peoples of the world who love freedom.
Today, the Sudanese people united under their leadership have made successes in the economic development, opposing the moves of the U.S.-led imperialists. The Sudanese people are comrades-in-arms who are in the same trench with the Korean people in the fight against imperialism.
Paek Nam Sun had a talk with the delegation which paid a courtesy call on him on the same day.

Former Australian foreign minister and his party here

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Former Australian federal minister for foreign affairs Gareth Evans and his party arrived here on Saturday by air.

Military drill for surprise attack

Pyongyang May 2 (KCNA) -- The recent large-scale "joint air assault exercise" of ROK army and the U.S. troops in South Korea is a military drill to make a surprise attack on the depth of the north and part of preparations for a war of aggression on the north, says Minju Joson in a signed commentary today.
The argument of "southward aggression" on the lips of the U.S. and South Korean war hawks is no more than a deceptive sophism to justify their military drill for attack on the north under different cloaks and in various forms and cover up their ambition for aggression on the DPRK, the paper says, and goes on: The adventurous military action of the warmongers behind the screen of "threat from the north" will only result in aggravating Korea-U.S. relations and north-south relations and driving the situation of the Korean peninsula to a perilous phase.
It is our faith and will to defend peace and safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the country by force of arms. The U.S. and South Korean warmongers should not run wild at random.

Product of vicious anti-Cuba campaign

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The United States got the anti-Cuba resolution adopted at the 55th Session of the UN Commission on Human Rights. This is a product of the U.S. vicious moves to interfere in the internal affairs of Cuba and destroy its revolutionary socialist system, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary.
It goes on: The U.S. "human rights" offensive is one of the moves to isolate and stifle the Republic of Cuba. Cuba has taken steps to intensify the anti-crime struggle, defend the sovereignty of the country and develop its economy. The United States sponsored this resolution, vociferating about "suppression of dissidents" and "violation of human rights."
It is more ridiculous for the South Korean authorities known as the most hideous violators of human rights in the world to have come out to support the resolution. They once again laid bare their true colors as despicable stooges who do not feel ashamed of clinging to the coattails of Americans.
The true colors of the United States as the arch violator of human rights are brought to light before the world. The United States is well advised to stop behaving ludicrously, clearly mindful of its position of being on top of the list of criminals to be brought to the international tribunal of human rights.

Japan's imprudent behaviour under fire

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Japan is peddling these days "six way talks" in a bid to get involved in the issue of the Korean peninsula at all costs, while talking about the need for it to participate in the "inspection of the underground facility."
Commenting on this, Minju Joson today says: Japan has neither reason nor qualification to edge itself in the "four-way talks" and the issue of the "underground facility". It is preposterous for Japan to put its nose into the issue of the Korean peninsula on the pretext of "contribution of fund". Japan's imprudent behaviour stems from its sinister intention. Japan seeks to stage a comeback to the peninsula at any cost.
It is also aimed at improving its image and "exercising its influence" commensurate with a "political power". But Japan is seriously mistaken. Its imprudent behaviour will invite nothing but shame and ridicule. If Japan is truly interested in the peace on the Korean peninsula, it should properly fulfil what it should do, instead of being disgraced for its imprudent act intended to poke its nose into to other's affair.
