U.S. and NATO air raids on Yugoslav media establishments

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The vice-chairman of the c.c., the Korean Journalists Union, Kim Sang Ho, issued a statement today denouncing NATO for escalating air raids on Yugoslavia by striking not only at military objects but media establishments and other civilian ones.
The statement says: As was reported, the U.S.-led NATO forces indiscriminately bombed the Serbia Radio and TV Broadcasting Station in Yugoslavia at the end of April, destroying more than 10 relay stations and towers and killing at least 20 people. This was followed by their bombing of the Novi Sad TV Broadcasting Station. A flagrant violation of the UN Charter and an international law, this barbarism lays bare the aggressive and brutal nature of the U.S. and NATO forces. The U.S. and NATO air raids on Yugoslav media organs can never be justified, the statement stresses.
It bitterly denounces the United States and NATO for their despicable and shameless acts to conceal their aggressive nature and muffle the just voices of the Yugoslav people fighting to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity. It goes on: The Kosovo issue is entirely an internal affair of Yugoslavia. Therefore, it can not be settled through military intervention or pressure. Moreover, their air raids on such civilian objects as broadcasting stations are an unethical war crime which will only add to their crimes.
The statement demands NATO immediately stop bombings which are in contravention of the UN Charter and international law and guarantee broadcasting stations and other mass media and journalists security, life and free activities.

Kim Jong Il gives guidance to Kangwon Province

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the rural mechanization in Kangwon Province. He went to readjusted paddy-fields to see tractors and other farm machines at work and acquainted himself with the rural mechanization in detail.
He said that a granite foundation has been laid for a new upsurge in agricultural production through accelerated rural mechanization. Then he advanced highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines in realizing the comprehensive mechanization of the nation's rural economy. He noted that a large number of modern farm machines were supplied to the socialist countryside over the past years, opening a new era of doing farmwork with the help of machines.
Saying that to carry out land rezoning well is a revolutionary work to free farmers from difficult and arduous labour, he urged all the provinces, cities and counties to push ahead with land rezoning through a nationwide drive on the basis of the achievements and experience gained in land rezoning in Kangwon Province and thus change the appearance of the country.
He stressed the need to produce more machines for land rezoning. In order to realize the mechanization of the rural economy, he said, production of farm machines of various types suited to the specific conditions of the countryside should be increased. Enough spare parts should also be supplied there to increase the operation rate of those machines and repair and service them in time, he added.
He said it was necessary to provide conditions favourable for mechanization, including improvement of the land cultivation system. He urged the province to concentrate all efforts on farming for increased grain output in order to fully display the vitality of the land rezoning.
He was accompanied by vice-chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission Ri Yong Mu and general officers of the Korean People's Army. Included in the party were secretary Kim Yong Sun and first vice department director Jang Song Thaek of the WPK Central Committee.

Trick to put down worker's resistance

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The South Korean "Minister of Labour," upset by the growing struggle of workers under the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) for vital rights, appeared on the TV network of KBS on May 2 and said he was ready for talks with the KCTU, according to a radio report from Seoul.
But direct negotiations between the unions and "government" authorities called for by KCTU cannot be accepted and only "working-level" talks on pending issues related to workers are possible, he added. In the long run he rejected withdrawal of murderous "restructuring" and lay-off demanded by the KCTU and the workers and proposed "working-level" talks, fooling the unions and workers.
The "working-level" talks are nothing but a trick to arrest the worker's struggle.

S. Korean worker's struggle for vital rights and democracy

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) is hitting the ruling quarters by reorienting the labour movement for this year to an anti-"government" struggle.
The KCTU on February 24 declared its resolute secession from the "Labour-Management-Government Committee," saying it has turned into a tool of imposing unilateral sacrifice upon workers. The organization has put the rulers into a miserable plight by rejecting the authorities' appeasement and deceptive moves for its reentry and maintaining its resolute stand. The Federation of South Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), too, formally decided on its breakaway and, accordingly, the "committee" is on the point of dissolution.
The KCTU held rallies for anti-"government" general struggle simultaneously in 14 cities and provinces including Seoul and Pusan and declared that it would conduct a powerful struggle till its demands including suspension of "restructuring" and lay-off are met. At the same time, anti-"government" rallies and demonstrations were launched across South Korea, dealing a blow at the authorities. This was a demonstration of this organization's will to fight against the "government."
It also integrated three public sector trade unions including the federation of public service trade unions into a single organization called "National Federation of Public Transport and Service Trade Unions," which is the second largest organization under it. The KCTU, whose members numbered more than 390,000 at its inception and now total 600,000 , staged May Day rallies in defiance of police suppression.
Meanwhile, the FKTU, general student councils of various universities, peasants and jobless people joined the KCTU in the struggle. Social circles of different countries have expressed full support for demonstrations and strikes of KCTU and other unions of South Korea for vital rights and freedom.

S. Korean "Minister of Unification" urged to resign

Tokyo, May 5 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Japan regional headquarters of Pomminryon (National Alliance for the Country's Reunification) released a statement denouncing "Unification Minister" of South Korea Kang In Dok for crying for "overthrow of the north" and "unification by absorption," according to Minjok Sibo dated May 1, an overseas. Koreans' newspaper published in Japan.
Kang did not bother to assert that "the present system in the north should be toppled or changed." The statement branded this as an anti-reunification outcry of an anti-communist, which may drive inter-Korean relations to the worst phase and spark even a fratricidal war.
Saying the outburst is a revelation of his long-cherished anti-north confrontation conception, it stressed: What matters is that the chief executive of South Korea appointed Kang, who has long been known to be an advocate of national confrontation, as "Minister of Unification" and has kept mum about what he blustered though several days have passed since then. Kang should be removed from that post.
The chief executive should make clear his stand towards Kang's utterances, the statement held, saying reunification is the only way out for the Korean nation at the crossroads of permanent division or reunification. It urged the chief executive of South Korea to switch the anti-reunification, anti-north confrontation policy to national reconciliation and unity.

Former U.S. defense secretary's remarks

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today criticizes the former U.S. defense secretary's remarks underscoring "the need to demonstrate military muscle" and "use deterrent force" against the DPRK as a bravado. The United States has left no stone unturned to stifle the DPRK but everything ended in a failure. What it has not done is gun-firing, the news analyst says. He continues: War on the Korean peninsula is not an imaginary one of the future but is becoming a reality. The DPRK and the U.S. are technically at war. Hence, any preemptive strike by the U.S. may trigger off a total war between the DPRK and the U.S.
The DPRK will not hesitate to resolutely counter whatever actions of the United States including "demonstration of its military muscle" or "use of deterrent force" but surely win the war against it. The People's Army and the people of Korea will mercilessly strike at and annihilate the enemies who dare attack the DPRK, wherever they are. The U.S. war hawks are well advised to behave with discretion, clearly mindful of this resolution and will of the People's Army and the people of Korea.

KCNA dismisses anti-north smear campaign as futile

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities have recently conducted vicious anti-north campaign in three northeast provinces of China. They let the "Intelligence Service" and the "Ministry of Unification", the general headquarters of hostile operations, carry on intelligence, plot breeding and subversive activities against the DPRK. They are hiring ethnic Koreans in these provinces as agents or bribing impure elements in a bid to use them for the anti-north false propaganda.
They are infiltrating "trained" impure Koreans into the west coast of Korea to gather information about sea conditions, disposition of guard posts and movements of warships. They are sending to the north spies carrying small arms with built-in sound memory computers and plastic pistols in an effort to create reactionary organizations and plot an armed revolt. Meanwhile, they are letting the suborned compatriots distribute anti-DPRK publications and dirty commodities to areas of the north along the borderline.
Such anti-north campaign is aimed at stirring up confrontation among overseas. Koreans who long for the DPRK and driving them to anti-north confrontation. Ultimately, this is designed to hold in check great national unity and reunification. Underlying this campaign is a despicable intention to maliciously slander the dignified system in the DPRK and send the wind of "reform" and "opening" to our areas.
But they are seriously mistaken. They are resorting to all sorts of false propaganda and subversive activities and sabotages to break the faith and will of the Korean people who are all out in the drive to build a powerful nation full of conviction and optimism, but the smear campaign is as foolish as trying to sweep the sea with a broom.
They should ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by their hostile acts against the DPRK in three northeast provinces of china and stop false propaganda, intelligence and subversive activities at once. If they persist in the futile anti-north smear campaign in these areas despite our warnings, they will face our merciless retaliation.

Korean-style socialism

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Korean-style socialism is now triumphantly advancing towards a bright future despite the vicious isolation and suffocation moves of the imperialists and reactionaries, stresses Minju Joson in a by-lined article today.
The article says Korean-style socialism is the best anthropocentric socialism which was established by the President Kim Il Sung and has been developed by the respected Marshal Kim Jong Il. Korean-style socialism is genuine people's socialism, unique socialism under which the popular masses are masters of everything and everything serves them. Herein lies the main characteristics of the Korean-style socialism, guided by the Juche idea.
Korean-style socialism is the life and soul of the Korean people. It is the society where a genuine life is guaranteed. It looks after and glorifies the destiny of the popular masses in a responsible manner. In other words, it is the system under which the Korean people feel the worth of living. The Korean people, who enjoy a happy life with optimism about future under this socialism, are attached to their life and repose absolute trust in the socialism that guarantees their life.
This trust coupled with the unshakable faith that Korean-style socialism is the life and soul is deeply rooted in the minds of the Korean people and the Korean-style socialism is growing stronger based on this faith with each passing day.

Publication day of historic work marked

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il published a historic work on May 7, Juche 63 (1974). Rodong Sinmun today runs an article to mark the 25th anniversary of the publication of the work.
His famous work gives a comprehensive exposition of the ideas and theories of developing mass media of the Worker's Party of Korea into a mighty ideological instrument conducive to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of the President Kim Il Sung.
It gives flawless answers to all the questions arising in effecting a revolutionary upswing in the press and news service--the mission, principle of activity and basic duty of the mass media of the WPK, the traits and qualities of journalists and editors and ways of steadily enhancing the role of the journalists union.
With the undying ideas and theories laid down the appearance of the mass media of the WPK fundamentally changed, the article says, and goes on: The mass media of the WPK have adhered to their own Juche-based revolutionary character even when those of political parties of the working class in some countries have been eroded by the grey and yellow winds. They are creditably playing the role of a good educator, courageous propagandist and loyal mouthpiece in the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of the WPK. All this is impossible without the ideas and theories proving their worth.
Great is Kim Jong Il who has given a major face-lifting to the mass media of the WPK. It is because he has made sure that the mass media of the WPK have a transparent revolutionary outlook on the leader and the press and news service is made as was done by the anti-Japanese guerrillas. It is also because he has trained mediamen and editors to be true revolutionaries of Juche type and men of the press faithful to the WPK.

Samurais draw swords for reinvasion of Korea

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The adoption of the legislation for the implementation of the "Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation Guidelines" and the decision of the Defence Agency of Japan to deploy two high-speed missile ships in the future are intended to carry into practice the Japanese reactionaries' ambition for overseas expansion, which is fraught with a great danger.
Minju Joson says this in a signed commentary today. The news analyst goes on: Japan's legislation for the implementation of the "Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation Guidelines" is intended to legally guarantee overseas expansion from A to Z. The Japanese reactionaries' moves for arms buildup and modernization stem from the aim to realize their ambition for overseas expansion.
They are, in actuality, getting frantic in staging exercises for war of aggression, having rounded off legal and material preparations for overseas expansion. This shows it is a matter of time for them to carry into practice their ambition. There is no guarantee that their war of aggression intended for overseas expansion will not inflict unheard-of sufferings and pains on the world people as well as the Asian people as it did in the past. If they persistently choose to realise their adventurous ambition, Japan will no longer exist on the earth.
