Resolute protest against aggressors

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed commentary on the ever mounting anti-American sentiments in South Korea. The news analyst goes on: Students under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) staged an anti-U.S., anti-war demonstration in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul some days ago.
This is a resolute protest against the aggressors. It is also an eruption of the pent-up grudge and wrath of the South Korean people and an expression of their firm will not to tolerate the colonial fascist rule of the occupationists and the traitors but to bring a new politics, new system and new life through struggle.
The recent anti-American demonstration of students under Hanchongryon transparent in justice and ardent in patriotism is a representation of the people's sentiments and a patriotic deed worthy of praise by the entire nation. The South Korean authorities, however, walked away and persecuted these patriotic students on charges of the violation of the law on assembly and demonstration, defining them as mobs.
It is a serious mistake if they think they can dampen at the point of bayonet the desire and demand of the South Korean students and people for retaking national dignity and sovereignty and leading a genuine life.

S. Korean authorities crack down on unionists

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities on May 7 suppressed members of the executive committee of the Seoul Subway Trade Union on charges of the violation of an evil law, a Seoul-based radio reported. They dismissed 24 persons including the trade union chairman and released two others from office for the mere reason that they took the lead in the recent strike of the trade union. This is a retaliation of the authorities for the just struggle of workers for the right to existence.

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The self-proclaimed people's government of South Korea and the National Congress for New Politics at a party and government negotiation on May 8 decided to set up a state police committee and place it under the prime minister's office, a Seoul-based radio said. The national police office now under the Ministry of Administrative Autonomy is reportedly presumed to be instructed by the committee in the future. This step to put police under the command of the prime minister is in essence a criminal move to strengthen riot police.

NATO air raid on Chinese embassy in Belgrade denounced

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the central committee of the Korea-China Friendship Association issued a statement today, denouncing an air raid on the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia by the U.S.-led NATO forces. The statement says: At dawn of May 8 NATO launched several missiles upon the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia, severely destroying the building and causing casualties.
This is not only an open encroachment on the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China and grave provocation against the Chinese people but also a wanton violation of norms of international relations including the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations.
The central committee of the Korea-China Friendship Association expresses indignation at and condemns the criminal air raid on the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia by the U.S.-led NATO forces. Meanwhile, we send deep condolences and sympathy to the victims, bereaved families and the injured party.
An open missile attack on a diplomatic mission representing a sovereign state is unprecedented in the diplomatic history of the world. The international criminals should be punished. The U.S. and NATO should bear full responsibility for their unpardonable crime and stop such brutal air raids at once.
If the U.S.-led NATO continues criminal aggressive acts in Yugoslavia in defiance of protest and condemnation of the world people, it will face final failure and destruction.

Military provocation in Panmunjom area

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and the South Korean ruling quarters committed military provocation against the north in the area of Panmunjom on May 10, according to military sources. The ruling quarters clandestinely deployed combat equipment at a MP post in the area more than 100m opposite a post of our side and then an officer of the U.S. aggression forces directly verified the deployment on the spot, committing provocation stimulating us.
Synchronizing with this, many combatant vehicles and armed personages were sent to the back side of a height ridge adjacent to the buildings of the neutral nations supervisory commission in the south side's portion to fire ten odd illuminating shells.
On the same day at a MP post some 20m southwest of marker no. 0099 of the military demarcation line ROK army soldiers disturbed personnel of our side on routine duty by projecting an electric torch on the post of our side on four occasions. This is deliberate and premeditated provocation for a sinister military aim against the north.

Peasants join workers in struggle for vital rights

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea made public a statement on May 11 in connection with the fact that peasants actively joined workers in their massive struggle for vital rights and democracy in South Korea.
South Korean peasants participated in a rally of workers sponsored by the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions on May 1 and waged a solidarity struggle against economic trusteeship by foreign forces, murderous layoff and restructuring by authorities, together with tens of thousands of workers, youth and students, the statement noted, and went on: The growing struggle of South Korean peasants is an eruption of wrath and resentment against the vicious colonial fascist rule of the U.S. and their stooges.
South Korean peasants joined workers, youth and students in their struggle because they could not fall victims to the misrule of the authorities. Nevertheless, the ruling quarters are frantically cracking down on their just rally and demonstration, describing them as illegal.
The Uawk central committee bitterly denounces the South Korean authorities' suppression of peasants, workers, youth and students in the name of all the farmers in the north, branding it as an anti-social criminal act. The South Korean authorities should give up the traitorous restructuring at once and unconditionally stop suppressing the just struggle of peasants.

Projected moves to frustrate 2nd strike of KCTU

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The supreme public prosecutor's office of South Korea on May 8 revealed its attempt to crack down again on a second round of the strike of the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), according to a news report from Seoul.
The South Korean ruling quarters announced that in order to prevent the KCTU's struggle beforehand they would arrest all the members of its leadership and leading members of trade unions under it who will participate in the strike, and punish them on charges of violation of the evil law. They are also scheming to dismiss all the Seoul Subway trade union strikers in case they go on a strike again.

S. Korean authorities must not act foolishly

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities are now refusing the release and repatriation of unconverted long-term prisoners of the north origin, calling them north-sent spies released from prison and security offenders. They are also insisting that these prisoners should be exchanged for POWs of 'ROK' army and those kidnapped by the north who are not in the north.
Defectors Han Tae Sik, 66, Ri Su Gap, 68, Jo Son Hi, 69, Om Il Su, 72, and Kim To Hyon, 69, who are living in North Hwanghae Province said that all of them came over to the North Korea of their own accord during the Fatherland Liberation War while serving the South Korean Army.
After their defection they joined the Korean People' s Army to fight against the enemy and are now enjoying preferential treatment in society as veterans, they noted. They continued: It is foolish for the South Korean authorities to make them objects of exchange, calling them POWs of 'ROK' army.
The North Korea sent all the POWs of the south origin back to South Korea right after the war. As we are not POWs of 'ROK' army, we cannot be objects of exchange. The South Korean authorities are foolishly raising the exchange issue in a bid to block the repatriation of the unconverted long-term prisoners.
These prisoners are called men of faith and will among the South Korean people. How can they be north-sent spies released from prison? They should be sent back to their hometowns without delay.

KDLA demands stop to NATO bombing of Yugoslavia

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The Korean Democratic Lawyers Association in a statement today denounced the unlawful and barbaric bombing of Yugoslavia, an independent and sovereign state, committed by the United States and NATO forces in defiance of the UN Charter and the international law, and demanded an immediate stop to it.
The indiscriminate air raids by the U.S.-led NATO against Yugoslavia are escalating as days go by, causing a great human loss, material damage and social disasters, the statement said. It continued: The United States and NATO are destroying civilian objects at random and killing innocent people mercilessly even with chemical and radioactive means of mass destruction including cluster bombs and depleted uranium bullets the use of which is banned internationally.
The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia killed or wounded more than 6,000 people, displaced more than 1.5 million, deprived over 2.5 million people of their means of life and infected a large number of people with poisonous material. Particularly, the U.S.-led NATO made an air raid on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, causing many human losses and material damage. This is a heinous war crime which is fundamentally contrary to the international law and the principle of Red Cross humanitarianism.
The Kosovo issue is pertaining to the internal affair of Yugoslavia, a sovereign state. No one has right to interfere in it and, moreover, it is not a matter for foreign forces to meddle in and settle by force of arms. The air raids on Yugoslavia are an encroachment upon the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state and a grave challenge to world peace and security, which can never be tolerated.

Practical steps must be taken without delay

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) --If the inter-Korean dialogue is to be held in conformity with the expectation and desire of the entire nation, priorities should be implemented in South Korea without fail. Rodong Sinmun says this in a by-lined article today.
The paper continues: We proposed to the South Korean authorities to have the reunification-oriented dialogue between the north and south, advancing priorities -- to discontinue cooperation and joint military maneuvers with foreign forces, abolish the security law and guarantee the pro-reunification patriotic organizations and figures the freedom of the reunification movement and activities.
Ignoring these priorities, the South Korean authorities insisted on dialogue without condition and even insulted our proposal as formula shown before provocation. No progress had been made at political, economic, military, Red Cross and other multi-channeled talks held between the north and the south in the past entirely because of the moves of the South Korean authorities. If they truly have the will for inter-Korean dialogue, there is no reason for them to refuse to implement priorities.
They are now getting frantic in the war gambles against the north in league with outside forces after declaring the north as the principal enemy. They are refusing to abolish the security law, an anti-reunification evil law, and continuing to suppress people from all walks of life who are calling for alliance with the north, reconciliation and reunification. This is a clear proof that, although they are vociferating about dialogue, they are rushing headlong along the road of anti-north confrontation.
Whether the inter-Korean dialogue is held or not entirely depends on the South Korean authorities. The entire nation in the north, south and abroad is watching their attitude.
