Strengthening national armed forces

Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today says that if the independence of a country and the sovereignty of a nation are to be defended, national defence capacities should be strong.
The paper goes on: The U.S. doctrine of war is to commit military aggression on any country weak in national power that goes against the grain with it and takes a stand against it. NATO military operations against Yugoslavia are motivated by the U.S. doctrine of war.
A country weak in national power is conquered by the imperialists. Peace is guaranteed by the power of the gun of justice. If a nation has not its own solid national defence industry and military power, it cannot but be a slave of imperialism.
It is the imperialists who are wolfish before the weak and impotent before the strong. They dare not provoke a strong country but commit without hesitation unreasonable military intervention and aggression on a country weak in national defence capacities.
The dignity, sovereignty and peace of a nation are guaranteed by its own strong military power.

S. Korean unionists' struggle supported

Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Korean Drivers and Fishermen Union sent a letter on Monday to the unionists of the "Federation of Public Transport and Service Trade Unions" (Konggongryonmaeng) in South Korea who are waging a powerful struggle for vital rights and democracy.
Upon hearing the news that unionists of Konggongryonmaeng including the Seoul Subway Trade Union and the "Korea Telecommunication Trade Union" are taking the lead in the April-May all-out struggle sponsored by the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, we express positive support and solidarity for their righteous struggle, the letter said.
Their call for overthrowing the "people's government" and gaining the three rights of labour is a very just demand for vital rights and democracy and their action is a righteous deed stemming from the will to live a true life as an independent human being, the letter said, and continued: All the unionists of the Korean Drivers and Fishermen Union bitterly denounce the fascist ruling quarters of the "government for the people" for groundlessly cracking down on their just struggle.
The way for the unionists of Konggongryonmaeng to retake the dignity of human being, enjoy a true life and achieve democracy is to put an end to the anti-social rule of the outside forces and flunkeyist traitors and build a new world of independence and democracy.

Kim Il Sung's experimental plot

Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- The President Kim Il Sung who regarded it as a maxim to "believe in the people as in heaven" turned his residence garden into an "experimental farm" and cultivated it in order to make all the people across the country live well off in his lifetime.
On one June morning of Juche 66 (1977) the President who was going round the garden told an official in his company that trees and flowers of the garden should be transferred to other places to turn it into a bean experimental plot. The official proposed to the President to set other place as an experimental plot and leave the garden as it was.
The President said he worried about insufficient supply of oil to the people and he was going to test bean cultivation by himself. That is why the garden was turned into an "experimental farm" called Kumsusan Experimental Plot. After making the garden a bean experimental plot, that year he went to the plot on 32 occasions to cultivate the crop and gave teachings on bean farming on 59 occasions.
When a bumper year visited the bean experimental plot, he called the chief secretaries of the provincial party committees and agricultural officials, organized a model and demonstration lecture at the plot and gave a lecture on bean farming for one hour and more. This shows how the Juche method of farming for bean cultivation was established at the plot.
He also did maize, fruit and parsley experimental farming at the Kumsusan Experimental Plot and put heart and soul into the study of them. No head of state and leader but President Kim Il Sung turned residence gardens into an experimental farm for the people and created a scientific method of farming suitable for the natural features of the country.

NDFSK's open questionnaire to S. Korean chief executive

Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- The propaganda department of the central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) on May 18 published an open questionnaire to the present South Korean chief executive on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Kwangju Popular Uprising, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said.
The open questionnaire said: By defending the criminals of the Kwangju massacre, Kim Dae Jung distorted the historical significance and the bloody lesson of the May 18 Kwangju Uprising in 1980, thus unhesitatingly throwing a wet blanket over the struggle of the people for independence, democracy and reunification.
To defend the criminals of the Kwangju massacre is an insult to the soul of the May 18 Kwangju Uprising. Kim Dae Jung should unveil the guise of the "government for the people" and cast clear light on the crimes against the history and the nation that were committed in concert with murderers of the Kwangju Uprising.
We cannot but ask you Kim Dae Jung whether you know the significance of the May 18 Kwangju Uprising and stress its "inheritance." From the Kwangju Popular Uprising, the people have drawn a bloody lesson that neither the democratization of South Korea nor national reunification can be expected unless the United States is driven out of this land.
If Kim Dae Jung has national dignity and conscience he will never connive at the fact that it is none other than the United States that wire-pulled the operation of the Kwangju massacre by Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Tae Woo by mobilizing the forces under the U.S. army commander in South Korea and even the 7th U.S. fleet flotilla at the time of the May 18 Kwangju Uprising.
Ruthless suppression of the people of various social strata who turned out in the struggle for attaining independence, democracy and reunification in the spirit of the Kwangju Popular Uprising is the revival of the Kwangju massacre. Since he took office, Kim Dae Jung has brought fascism redolent of the Kwangju massacre. Kim Dae Jung should clearly know that the traitorous, murderous, fascist rule will precipitate his destruction.
