U.S. "operation plan 5027-98"

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The Consultative Council of Former South Korean Politicians in the North for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification issued a statement on Friday denouncing the U.S. for working hard to realize the "operation plan 5027-98," a new war scenario for aggression.
The statement said: This anti-north war plan of the U.S. imperialists reveals their intention to make a preemptive attack on the DPRK any moment and has a phase of "occupying the north and establishing a rule over it" at the end of the war. This discloses their sinister design to extend their colonial rule over South Korea to the North Korea.
For the realization of the plan, the U.S. war hawks are waging a test war and a preliminary war for the Korean war in Yugoslavia whose terrain is similar to Korea by mobilizing sophisticated offensive means and lethal equipment. In the meantime, they are massively deploying U.S. forces and war equipment in and around South Korea under the pretext of filling up "vacuum in U.S. forces" caused by the Yugoslav crisis.
The U.S. is ceaselessly staging with the South Korean ruling quarters large-scale war exercises such as "joint exercise for wartime reinforcement" and "river Amnok exercise" under the simulated conditions of a surprise preemptive attack against the DPRK.
The statement bitterly denounced the moves of the U.S. imperialists and their stooges to put the new war scenario "operation plan 5027-98" into practice as a grave provocation against the DPRK and an intolerable challenge to the 70 million fellow countrymen who want peace and peaceful reunification of the country.
If the U.S. imperialists and their stooges unleash a war of aggression in defiance of our repeated warnings, they will be burnt in the flames kindled by them, the statement stressed.

As a result, the living environment of the Korean people is getting better day by day. Mankind should jointly work to get rid of the factors that cause environmental degradation so as to secure a safe habitat on this planet.

Message to South Korean people issued

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (Hanminjon) issued a "message to all people" on may 31 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the March 24-June 3 Uprising of South Korean people, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation reported.
The June 3 Uprising against the treacherous "South Korea-Japan talks" was a sacred national salvation struggle, the message said, and went on: Today 35 years since then, Japan's moves for reinvasion of Korea are becoming all the more pronounced as days go by and the pro-Japanese treacheries of the Kim Dae Jung "government" have gone beyond the danger line.
The patriotic people from all walks of life who are concerned about the destiny of the nation should rise up in an all-out powerful anti-Japan, anti-"government" struggle in the spirit of the June 3 Uprising.
The message called for decisively shattering Japan's daily intensifying moves for military aggression, giving momentum to the struggle for the annulment of the South Korea-Japan military "pact" and "agreement", decisively frustrating the projected South Korea-Japan military alliance and the U.S.-Japan-South Korea triangular military alliance system and undertaking a widespread struggle to force Japan to settle the crimes committed by it against the Korean nation for more than four decades in the past.
Noting that the "people's government" is a group of the pro-Japanese traitors, the message said: With the present "government" left intact, neither the sovereignty of the nation can be realized nor can the danger of war be prevented nor can the reunification of the country be expected. We should unite in one mind and valiantly turn out as one in a second June 3 uprising, urged the message.

Rodong Sinmun on ideological work

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- It is of weighty importance to arm the people with the socialist idea now that obsolete idea still remains in the mind of people in the socialist society and the growing threat of the imperialists' ideological and cultural poisoning is coming from outside stresses Rodong Sinmun in an article today.
The author of the article continues: As the great leader Kim Jong Il taught, neglecting the ideological education leads to gradual dampening of revolutionary enthusiasm among people and increasing tendency to live in comfort, as they continue to lead a stable life without any worries in the socialist society.
Then, the people will lose enthusiasm to devote themselves to socialism and, furthermore, will harbor an illusion about capitalism and go so far as to betray socialism, taken in by the false propaganda of the imperialists and reactionaries. This is clearly evidenced by the collapse of socialism in some countries that had flung the door open to the imperialists' ideological and cultural offensive after discarding ideological education.
The lesson drawn from the collapse of socialism in some countries is that socialism will go to ruin if the ideological education is neglected. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to exert efforts to the ideological education. It is a most revolutionary strategy to foil the imperialists' strategy of "peaceful transition" to give a definite precedence to the ideological work and, on this basis, step up the economic construction.

S. Korean trade unions to go on strike

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The Federation of South Korean Trade Unions (Hangukrochong) called an emergency meeting in Seoul on June 2 at which it reaffirmed its stand to call a general strike on June 16, a South Korean newspaper said.
At the meeting, the chairman of the federation called upon all its affiliated organizations throughout the country to actively participate in the general strike. The federation called for a halt to the South Korean authorities' unilateral "restructuring" and the cancellation of the wholesale lay-off of the employees in Tele-communications and railway services. They declared they would carry on their strike unless such demands are met.
Meanwhile, the trade union of the Ulsan subsidiary under the Hyun Dai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd. confirmed that it would again enter into a strike against the authorities' "restructuring". The trade union announced that it would go on strike, enraged by the attitude of the management side that ignored the calls of workers and refused to accept the demands raised by the trade union, including the guarantee of stable employment.

Suppression of Hanchongryon flayed

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) - - The director of the department of youth and students of the c.c., the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement on May 31 flaying the South Korean authorities for their suppression of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon), a Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said.
The statement said: Through the undaunted struggle for independence, democracy and reunification, Hanchongryon has proclaimed its 7th-term inauguration, thus making it possible to steadily enhance its role and position as a more powerful organization of the student movement and a vanguard of the renovation movement.
The authorities of the "government for the people" have left no stone unturned to foil the federation's 7th-term inauguration, after branding the federation as an "enemy-benefiting organization" and considering it to be a thorn in their flesh. The federation should intensify the anti-U.S., anti-"government" struggle as well as a movement for national reunification in order to meet the wish and demand of the one million students, the statement stressed.

Newly-appointed "Minister of National Defence" agitates war

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The newly-appointed "Minister of National Defence" of South Korea, Jo Song Thae, made the first ever "inspection" of the "headquarters of the army, navy and air force" on June 3 after he took office and instructed "chiefs of the general staff" of the three services to "establish perfect combat posture" to fight an all-out war, a Seoul-based radio said.
To this end, he said, the field units should intensify exercises and the "army should butters the 'government's' engagement policy towards the north with strength." This undisguised agitation for invasion of the north suggests that he is also an anti-national element little different from dyed-in-the-wool anti-communist Chon Yong Thaek, former "Minister of National Defence".

Anti-"government" struggle called for

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) released slogans for an immediate struggle to counter the ever more undisguised moves of the South Korean authorities to stamp out the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon).
Slogans say: The dictatorial "government" that tramples down upon the freedom of universities and suppresses Hanchongryon should step down. Let us check and foil the authorities' plot to weaken students' movement and revitalize the student movement. Noting that withdrawal from Hanchongryon means self-destruction, slogans appeal to the students to unite closely around Hanchongryon.
Slogans also called on the students to resolutely turn out in the anti-foreign forces and anti-"government" struggle and hold higher the banner of independence, democracy and reunification.
