Russian public figure interviewed by KCNA
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Maisara Kolonova, chairperson of the Tajik Society of Friendly and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, was interviewed by the KCNA during her visit to Korea as head of a delegation of the Tajik Society of Friendly and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Friendship Association. She said that the Korean people are breaking through hardships and difficulties without the slightest vacillation and concession under the imperialists' pressure and blockade, and performing miracles and feats in building a powerful nation of Juche.
She went on: The Korean people have been able to advance, demonstrating the socialism of their own style to the world even under the never-ceasing pressure and blockade of the imperialists because they regard independence their life and soul and carry on the revolution and construction by their own forces. President Kim Il Sung expounded the truth of Juche that man is the master of his own destiny and has strength to carve out his destiny and led the Korean people to invariably advance along the road of independence and Juche.
It is none other than the respected Kim Il Sung and the great leader Kim Jong Il who trained the Korean people as a people strong in independence and a heroic people unyielding to hardships and trials.
Kim Il Sung was the great leader, who led the Korean people to victory and glory all his life with his firm Juche-oriented stand and independent stand.
S. Korean authorities' suppression
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today hits out at the South Korean authorities for their ever more intensified suppression of the patriotic and democratic forces, including the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (Minjurochong).
The news analyst of the paper says: The authorities put into custody the vice-chairman of the General Student Council of Sowon University on the charge of violating the "security law." Earlier, they arrested the director for labour dispute of the Ulsan subsidiary under the Hyun Dai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. Charging him with "agitating illegal strikes" and "causing losses in production by hindering business."
This is a retaliatory campaign against Hanchongryon, a vanguard for patriotic struggle, and Minjurochong that defends the rights and interests of the workers.
All the activities and struggles of the organizations are entirely just as they are aimed at realizing the aspirations and desire of the South Korean people for new politics, new system and new life.
It is foolish of the authorities to try to arrest the anti-"government" struggle of the democratic forces and tide over the ruling crisis by dampening the spirit of the above-said organizations.
Such repressive actions of the authorities will only lash the workers and students into bitterer resentment and grudge.
Release of cadres of general student councils
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Hundreds of students of Hanyang University in Seoul held a demonstration on June 7, demanding the release of 18 former and present cadres of the general student councils who were arrested on the charge of violating the "National Security Law," according to a report.
The student demonstrators waged a stone-pelting battle with riot police.
Seminars on Kim Jong Il's exploits in party building
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- A seminar of party cadre-training officials was held on June 10 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea. Speakers explained the exploits performed by Kim Jong Il, leading the work of the WPK.
They referred to his great exploits in comprehensively developing and completing the Juche-based theory of party building, successfully applying it to the party building to set a global example of building a revolutionary party of the working class and achieving an integral whole of the leader, the party and the masses.
Under his leadership, the WPK has been firmly built up into a highly organized militant party and its fighting efficiency and leading role remarkably enhanced, they stressed.
A seminar of men of culture and art was held on June 9.
Joint editorial of WPK organs supported
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The Asian Regional Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association and the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification published a joint statement on June 4 in support of a joint editorial "Let us reject the imperialist ideological and cultural poisoning" carried by Rodong Sinmun and the magazine KulloJa, organs of the C.C., the Worker's Party of Korea.
It says: The imperialists' ideological and cultural poisoning is a vicious anti-socialist campaign to destroy people's confidence in socialism. If the imperialist ideology and culture are allowed, socialism will collapse like a wet wall.
In order to defend socialism the imperialist ideological and cultural campaign should be crushed and the "openness" and "pluralism" loudmouthed by the imperialists and the renegade socialists should never be allowed.
Recalling that the joint article stressed no matter how viciously the imperialists may resort to the anti-socialist campaign, they cannot destroy the socialist ideological position of Korea nor check the aspiration of progressive humankind for independence as long as there is Kim Jong Il, the great creator of socialist ideology and culture and defender of human civilization, the statement expressed full support for it.
Betraying U.S. ambition for permanent domination
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Army University reportedly asserted in its recent report that the U.S. marines should be "kept in Okinawa, Japan, even after the reunification of the Korean peninsula."
The report titled "Future of the U.S. military presence in Asia" underscored the "need" to maintain the task force of marines and other forces in east Asia, noting that it is "necessary to permanently keep" the U.S. ground troops in case the "tension of the Korean peninsula is removed by reunification." This proves that the U.S. assertion that the presence of the U.S. troops in Japan is aimed at "securing security" in a certain region in view of "the tension of the Korean peninsula" is a deceptive pretext to cover up its dominationist ambition.
Many fine art works worth national treasure
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Many masterpieces have been produced by the Mansudae Art Studio, a comprehensive fine art creating center of Korea.
Among them are several pieces of fine art works worth national treasure including Korean painting, celadon and embroidery.
A Korean painting "Dawn on Paektu" by People's Artist Ri Kyong Nam truthfully depicts sublime Mt. Paektu with mellow color and refined strokes in national style.
A Koryo celadon "National flower inlaid decoration vase" by People's Artist U Chi Son is a large flower vase with decorative patterns, expressive of the ardent love for the country. The vase looks more elegant as it is decorated with blooming flowers in graceful proper white color and stalks and leaves in dark color.
A large embroidery screen "Spring in Korea where all birds chirp" (front) and "Mountainous village of my country" (reverse), a large embroidery folding screen "Spring of nation where all flowers come into bloom" (front) and "A country with bumper fruits" (reverse) have been made with multifarious decorative skills.

Exhibited there are thousands of pieces of fine art works created by renowned artists.
S. Korean war hawks' provocative moves
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary flails the South Korean war hawks for illegally infiltrating their warships deep into the north side's territorial waters off the west coast in an unbroken chain.
Their ceaseless military provocations clearly show how desperate the South Korean war hawks are becoming in their efforts to find an excuse for unleashing a new war at the beck and call of the U.S., the commentary observes.
It continues: The South Korean war hawks are trying to find an excuse for northward invasion by fabricating a shocking "incident" in the region where the armed forces of the north and the south stand in acute confrontation.
It is the mettle and spirit of the people and the People's Army of Korea to return fire for fire and mercilessly punish the provocateurs.
The South Korean war hawks are well advised not to run amok, mindful that their provocation of a war just leads to self-destruction.
Rodong Sinmun calls for struggle against corrupt idea
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed article calling for setting up a mosquito net in all realms of social life in order to check the imperialist ideological and cultural poisoning.
Noting that to check the imperialist ideological and cultural poisoning is an issue vital to the destiny of socialism, the article says:The former Soviet Union and east European countries neglected the ideological work paying attention only to economic construction, and failed to approach the imperialist ideological and cultural poisoning with vigilance, with the result that socialism that had been built for several decades collapsed.
In order to set up a mosquito net, it is necessary to take strict measures to repel the onslaught of imperialist broadcasting institutions and check the infiltration of bourgeois publications. There should be only things socialist under socialism. Only the socialist ideology and culture are allowed under socialism. It is not a closed-door policy to set up a mosquito net in the process of revolution.
If no revolutionary measures are taken to check the infiltration of the bourgeois idea, aware that it makes people sick mentally, morally and physically, it is a grisly crime. Setting up a mosquito net means a benefit bestowed upon the people by a socialist state which makes them push ahead with the social development as the driving force of history, possessed of noble mentality, culture and moral trait.
It is imperative to conduct ideological education well and, at the same time, block all the channels through which the bourgeois ideological and cultural poison can infiltrate and ensure the purity of the socialist society. This is, indeed, a revolutionary step to defend socialism, safeguard the sovereignty of the nation and achieve the prosperity and development of the country.
Abolition of U.S. military bases commemorated
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Papers today dedicate articles to the 29th anniversary of the abolition of the U.S. military bases in Libya. Rodong Sinmun in a signed article says that the abolition of the U.S. military bases was an expression of the Libyan people's steadfast will to oppose the imperialists' domination and subordination and carve out their destiny independently.
The United States who was ousted from Libya has steadily tightened its political, economic and military pressure upon the country, the article notes, stressing that no machinations could change the resolute anti-imperialist independent stand of the Libyan people. The paper expresses the belief that the Libyan people's struggle for defending the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation will surely bear a good fruit under the leadership of Moammer El Gaddafi, leader of the September 1st Revolution.
Greetings to Russian President
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, today sent a message of greetings to B.N. Yeltsin, President of the Russian Federation, on the occasion of the National Day of the country. Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from the China Journalist Association. The gift was handed to an official concerned by president Sun Yangren of the Farmers' Daily who is heading a delegation of the association on a visit to the DPRK.
Kim Ki Nam meets delegation of China Journalist Association

Seoul branch of Okryu Restaurant
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korea Okryu Trading Company answered a question put by KCNA today in connection with the fact that radios of South Korea are these days broadcasting the opening of the "Seoul branch of Pyongyang Okryu Restaurant" in Seoul.
He told KCNA: It has been recently told in South Korea that the "Okryu Restaurant Co., Ltd." of South Korea made a "contract on opening a branch restaurant" with Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang through someone's good offices and opened the "Seoul branch of Okryu Restaurant" in Seoul. In order to make this sound plausible they assert that the branch is being operated through the collaboration between a South Korean civilian enterprise and a North Korean company.
We make it clear that we have neither agreed upon nor made a contract on opening the branch with any enterprise or individual of South Korea. Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang is widely known to the world for its elegant building and unique cold noodle taste. It is the common wish of fellow countrymen and foreigners to taste cold noodle at the restaurant in Pyongyang.
The South Korean authorities opened the Seoul branch, capitalizing on such mentality of people, and are crying that it is a product of the "engagement policy". Lurking behind this is their ulterior intention. The "Seoul branch of Okryu Restaurant" is, in the long run, a product of swindles and frauds to serve the "propaganda" purpose to implement the "engagement policy".
We bitterly denounce the South Korean side for encroaching upon the inviolable trademark of our Okryu Restaurant and abusing its name and strongly demand "Seoul branch of Pyongyang Okryu Restaurant" take off its signboard at once and make an apology to our side.
Political mountebank distorting historical truth
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Former South Korean "president" Roh Tae Woo in a "recorded memoirs", an interview with a journalist of worst type, Jo Kap Je of the newspaper Chosun Ilbo some days ago, let loose a string of tirade. Roh claimed that his remarks were based on what was said by the former deputy prime minister of Japan Shin Kanemaru, who visited Pyongyang in September 1990 as head of the joint delegation of the Liberal Democratic Party and the then Socialist Party of Japan.
He said, "when meeting Shin Kanemaru, who came to Seoul after visiting Pyongyang, I asked if the eight agenda items were agreed upon between the Worker's Party of Korea and the Japanese party delegation at the request of the north, not at his own will, he answered, 'you are right.' "This is a cock-and-bull story. Roh in his "recorded memoirs" claimed that when he asked Shin Kanemaru if he visited Pyongyang leaving aside the south, "allured" by the north, Kanemaru made an "apology" from the bottom of his heart.
It does not hold water to assert that Shin Kanemaru, who was considered to be influential in the then Japanese political circles and unshakable in his political faith, was "allured" by someone and, moreover, he made an "apology" to Roh Tae Woo upon whom he looked down as a worthless fellow.
Although the South Korean authorities launched a "protest" campaign over the adoption of the three-party joint declaration and Roh Tae Woo was trying to keep him from visiting Pyongyang, Shin Kanemaru stated "I am a man who should take the path I have chosen". He reiterated time and again his determination to put into practice what he agreed upon with the north.
At that time, NHK reported as follows: When Roh Tae Woo requested Shin Kanemaru to move for the improvement of the Japan-DPRK relations only after adequate prior consultation with South Korea, to urge the north to accept international inspection of its nuclear facilities and to refrain from making any compensation or giving any economic cooperation before the establishment of diplomatic relations with the DPRK, the latter, displeased with his request, said nothing before flying back to Tokyo without delay.
Nevertheless, Roh Tae Woo did not hesitate to tell sheer lies at a time when Shin Kanemaru is no longer alive, nine years since then. Roh's outburst is so despicable and the aim sought by him is sinister.
Underlying his jargon is his intention to create the impression that he put a brake on the improvement of the DPRK-Japan relations and made a certain "contribution" to "cooperation" with Japan against the north, when he was "president" and thereby secure "support" from right-wing conservative forces and "improve" even a bit his miserable image after serving a prison term and as he has been driven to a tight corner for irregularities.
No matter how hard Roh Tae Woo may try to falsify the truth to realise his ulterior intention, it is in vain. This only lays bare his true colors as a political mountebank and an immoral fellow.
While in power, Roh aggravated the north-south confrontation and pushed back the movement for national reunification through his anti-national and anti-reunification moves.
Today he is slandering even the departed foreign politician through fabrications and intrigues and inciting anti-north confrontation though he is at death's door. He should immediately make an apology for this dastardly behaviour.
The present South Korean authorities should not pay lip service to "reconciliation" and "cooperation" but refrain from conniving at and encouraging those who distort history and falsify the truth with all sorts of political swindles in South Korea and who incite anti-communist confrontation and should punish them.
Roh Tae Woo's anti-north remarks
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- An Kyong Ho, director of the secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement lashing out at a string of anti-north diatribe let loose recently by South Korean human scum who had been judged by history and the nation.
Recalling that in "recorded memoirs" carried by the may 1999 issue of the South Korean magazine Wolgan Chosun, Roh Tae Woo heaped abuses on the north, telling the lie that he told the head of the north side's delegation that visited Seoul to attend the 5th round of the north-south high-level talks about the "June 25 War," the director stated that he as a spokesman for the north side's delegation at that time cannot but disclose the falsity of what Roh Tae Woo remarked.
He continued: At that time Roh told the head of the north side's delegation that the excellent north-south agreement reflecting the desire of the 70 million people was adopted because the chief executives of the north and south took a bold decision and guided the high-level talks. Roh asked the head of the north side's delegation to convey to President Kim Il Sung his sincere feelings of deep respect for having made a decision for improved inter-Korean relations, fully considerate of the desire of the nation.
Saying that he was very pleased to hear that President Kim Il Sung was in good health, Roh added: There may be something in common between the president and me in the sense that we are chief executives of the north and south. But I am no match for the president because he already led the anti-Japanese armed struggle when I was little and he is a great and distinguished leader who has successfully steered the Korean nation in the state of division since the august 15, 1945, liberation. "It is my sincere wish to build a high gold pyramid after the successful solution of the reunification question and have the honor of presenting it to the president first."
Rodong Sinmun on December 14, 1991, carried the story to this effect filed by journalists of the north side who were visiting Seoul to cover the talks at that time. The director said, and continued: What Roh referred to as regards the June 25 War in his "recorded memoirs," falsifying the truth, is a treacherous act of making a fool of public opinion and throwing a wet blanket over the aspiration of the fellow countrymen who want reconciliation and unity between the north and south, and an outcry of an imposter who does not have even an iota of conscience.
It is not difficult to guess the aim sought by Roh in slandering the north in an "interview" with such a human fossil belonging to the cold war era as Jo Kap Je of Chosun Ilbo who is playing a leading role in the media to serve the purpose of confrontation with the north.
Roh's outcry is prompted by his try to prolong his dirty remaining days by taking precautions to get rid of his difficult position where he is trying to win "sympathy" by making eyes at some person. And he fears that he may be accused of "being red" if what he said is opened to the public as the former and incumbent "presidents" of South Korea are slandering each other.
No one can deny history and facts.
Those who orchestrated this base and despicable drama must make an immediate apology and withdraw their anti-north remarks.
The South Korean authorities are well advised to straighten the situation, clearly mindful that their connivance at the anti-north outcries of Roh Tae Woo and gangsters of Chosun Ilbo would adversely affect the inter-Korean relations.
Statement of spokesman for KPA mission in Panmunjom
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the mission of the Korean People's Army in Panmunjom released a statement today in connection with the situation getting ever tenser in Korea due to the unceasing moves of the South Korean authorities to provoke a war along the extension line of the demarcation line in the waters off the west coast of Korea.
The statement says: The situation in Korea, where there is neither a war nor peace, is growing tenser due to the ceaseless military provocations of the South Korean authorities along the extension line of the demarcation line in the waters off the west coast of Korea.
From June 4 onward, the South Korean authorities have infiltrated scores of naval warships deep into the territorial waters southwest of the Kangryong peninsula in south hwanghae province and began threatening the north side's peaceful fishing boats that were engaged in routine fishing. Such provocations took place even today, following those on June 5-6. The KPA naval patrol ships that stalwartly stand guard over inviolable territorial waters of our country promptly took a self-defence measure and entered into routine patrol mission.
But, the South Korean authorities infiltrated various types of warships into the north side's territorial waters, six or seven warships on a daily average and 14 to 20 at maximum, unhesitatingly committing provocations by hindering routine patrol of the KPA naval vessels. In the course of that, naval vessels of both sides collided three times on June 9 and 11. From 11:15 on June 9, the South Korean "naval" clippers intentionally ran into our patrol boats on a routine duty after intruding deep into the north side's territorial waters and fled after suffering a big setback.
The situation has reached an extremely grave phase. Even at this moment, scores of South Korean warships are sailing around along the extension line of the military demarcation line at the West Sea of Korea and the groups of warships in the Taeyonphyong and Soyonphyong islets are on the alert for reinforcement.
Their planes are also ready for emergency action.
Meanwhile, the "Minister of National Defence" of South Korea instructed the "army, navy and air force" units to be on the alert. The "headquarters of the joint chiefs of staff" is directly commanding the military provocations on the spot.
The emergency meeting of the "Ministry of National Defence" reportedly discussed tough measures to be taken to counter our self-defensive measure. All these moves illustrate that the South Korean authorities' military actions have entered a reckless phase of war provocation.
We are watching the military provocations as a grave war gamble that can not be overlooked because they took place at a time when the overall contents of the "operation plan 5027" for invasion of the north were revised and supplemented for a preemptive attack on the North Korea and when the Yugoslav crisis was coming to an end.
We bitterly denounce the South Korean authorities' military provocations, patronized by the U.S. conservative hard-liners, as a flagrant violation of the Korean armistice agreement and as a deliberate and premeditated move to drive the situation of the Korean peninsula to a touch-and-go situation of military confrontation.
As regards the prevailing situation, the Panmunjom mission of the Korean People's Army states as follows, on authorization:
1) The South Korean authorities must take a measure of immediately withdrawing all warships that intruded into the north side's territorial waters.
It is an unshakable will of the Korean revolutionary armed forces never to pardon those who violate even 0.001 mm of the sky, the land and the sea of the fatherland, in defence of their sovereignty. The South Korean authorities must know that if they continue reckless provocations despite our repeated warnings, they will meet with our strong self-defensive strikes. There is a limit to patience.
We are always fully prepared to settle account with the South Korean authorities.
They must realise that we do not make empty words.
2) The South Korean authorities must make an apology for the intrusions into our inviolable territorial waters and refrain from misleading public opinion.
Now the South Korean authorities talk as if our naval warships intruded into their waters, though they made naval provocations. At the same time, they try to shift the blame for the incident on to the north, calling for resumption of the Military Armistice Commission, the opening of the Panmunjom general officer-level talks and the like, manipulated by their master. The South Korean authorities must immediately give up the foolish act that reminds one of a thief crying "stop thief."
3) The South Korean authorities must be held wholly responsible for all consequences of the naval provocations.
The naval provocations have rendered the situation in Korea extremely dangerous.
We are fully prepared to cope with any danger and will not miss any opportunity.
If the naval provocations against the north continue, the South Korean authorities will be held wholly responsible for all ensuing consequences.
Our people and revolutionary armed forces will sharply watch every move of the South Korean authorities.
