Struggle against opening market to U.S. films
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The director of the propaganda department of the central committee of the "National Democratic Front of South Korea" (NDFSK) made public a statement on July 31.
The statement highly praised the struggle launched by moviemen against the opening of market to U.S. films commanding support of people of different social standings in South Korea as a patriotic one to defend the national spirit and preserve national culture, and expressed full support for it.
The statement said:
The present "government" at negotiations with the U.S. on the amendment to the "South Korea-U.S. agreement on investment" yielded to the U.S. demand for drastic cutdown of the compulsory screening days of South Korean films from the year 2002 so that the damned Yankee-style culture may ruthlessly trample down the Korean national spirit.
The U.S. pressure on South Korea to open market to its films is a revelation of its mentality as a suzerain state ruling over a colony and it is an expression of its brigandish domination policy to obliterate our nation's spirit of independence and further strengthen colonial cultural enslavement.
Justice-loving moviemen and patriotic people of different social standings in South Korea are intensifying their anti-U.S. and anti-"government" struggle against market opening to U.S. films. This shows that they are determined not to tolerate such deeds any longer but put an end to the pro-U.S. flunkeyist and treacherous politics of the Kim Dae Jung regime.
Fight against Japan's military moves called for
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Korean Student Committee in an appeal to youth and students across the world released on Thursday called upon them to decisively check Japan's moves to become a military and nuclear power.
The appeal said:
The Japanese authorities adopted the bills on the "U.S.-Japan Defence Cooperation Guidelines" to convert their system into a wartime system and codified "Kimigayo" and "Hinomaru," a symbol of Japanese militarism, as their formal national anthem and flag. Meanwhile they are stockpiling a great amount of nuclear materials, disregarding the worldwide protest and denunciation.
These facts clearly show that Japan's aggressive design for domination over the world will remain unchanged forever.
Our planet will face a nuclear scourge anytime by Japan, which has neither honestly apologized nor repented of its past bloody history.
The appeal stressed the need for the world youth and students to further strengthen the international unity and solidarity in the just struggle to decisively smash Japan's ambition for reinvasion and defend the peace and security of Asia and the rest of the world so as to build a new world without the imperialist aggression forces.
Letter to S. Korean linguistic organizations
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Candidate academicians, professors and doctors Ryu Ryol and Choe Jong Hu and Prof. and Dr. Jong Sun Gi of the linguistics institute of the DPRK sent a letter to the "Hangul Society," the "National Committee for the Exclusive Use of Hangul and its Promotion," the "Association of Cultural Organizations," the "Society for Right Korean Language" and other linguistic organizations of South Korea as regards the serious situation prevailing in South Korea where purity of Korean language cannot be seen owing to random use of foreign and mixed languages.
The letter said:
The South Korean authorities are going to divide the nation into heterogeneous two and perpetuate the division of the country by introducing foreign and mixed languages at random to obliterate the national language, vociferating about "era of internationalization."
This is an indelible treacherous deed to obliterate the spirit of the nation and throw a more stumbling block in the way of the reunification of the country.
The letter expressed the belief that the South Korean linguistics organizations would vigorously turn out in the patriotic struggle to decisively smash the authorities' flunkeyist and treacherous moves and defend the Korean spoken and written language.
Adventurous arms build-up targeted at DPRK
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities have come in for strong criticism by Rodong Sinmun today for planning to introduce "Popeye" missiles from the United States.
They said that "F-16" fighters would be equipped with those missiles to "strike the missile bases" in the north, adding that they would start "working consultations with the United States on extending their missile range in September, a signed commentary of the paper says, and goes on:
This is a clear proof that they are giving further spurs to the arms buildup for a war against the north.
Running high is the desire of the fellow countrymen for national reconciliation, unity and reunification. It is growing stronger than ever before with the approach of the August 15 grand pan-national pro-reunification festival, which will demonstrate the spirit of independence of the nation and the might of its great unity. Nevertheless, the South Korean authorities are throwing a wet blanket over the desire of the fellow countrymen for national reunification with intensified anti-DPRK confrontation moves and arms buildup and bringing the situation to a brink of a war by staging frantic war exercises targeted at the north.
Having dropped even the fallacy of "threat from the north," the South Korean authorities do not bother to disclose their criminal intention to attack the north.
This is the true colors of the South Korean ruling quarters going under the mask of "people."
They are well advised to behave with discretion. Those who are going against the demand of the time and the desire of the nation are bound to face severe punishment.
Japanese intolerable anti-DPRK campaign assailed
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a signed commentary today hits out at the Japanese reactionaries for their hostile move against the DPRK.
A few days ago, the Japanese reactionaries published a "defense" white paper in which they termed the DPRK's launch of a satellite as a launch of a "ballistic missile" and accused the DPRK of posing a "big threat to regional security". This is another undisguised challenge and provocation to the DPRK, the commentary observes, and continues:
The DPRK's launch of a satellite has been universally recognized and the threat to regional security comes not from the DPRK but from Japan.
Having developed and test-fired various types of missiles long ago, Japan is now running wild to deploy even the "Theatre Missile Defence" system.
Therefore, no one can predict when and where missiles will come from Japan. The Japanese reactionaries' ambition for overseas aggression has reached a climax.
It is their aim to occupy Korea and, afterwards, invade other Asian countries with Korea as a springboard.
Their loudmouthed "north Korean missile launch" and "its threat to regional security" are nothing but an insidious ruse to find an excuse to launch the reinvasion of Korea. Japan is the sworn enemy of Korea.
The DPRK has so many things to settle with Japan.
Once the Japanese reactionaries opt to stage a comeback to Korea, the DPRK will never pardon them.
Japan's moves for reinvasion of Korea condemned
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The chairman of the joint staff council of "Self-Defense Forces" of Japan, Yuji Fujinawa, on a visit to the United States, had a confab Monday with the chairman of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff, the U.S. Army chief of staff and the commander of U.S. marines. At the confab the U.S. and Japan reportedly agreed to work out programs for joint "defense cooperation" aimed at achieving "desired results" as required by the updated "U.S.-Japan Defense Cooperation Guidelines".
The guidelines is a document of war against the DPRK by the U.S. and Japan and its effectiveness means "successful launch" of their aggressive war against the DPRK. The Japanese reactionaries are making desperate efforts to draw up concrete joint war programs of the "SDF" and the U.S. Army at an early date and thus stage a comeback to the Korean peninsula according to the "guidelines."
It has been clearly proven by the fact that Fujinawa agreed with the U.S. military bosses to "closely watch" the "possible test-firing of ballistic missile" in the DPRK in order to seek a pretext for aggression on the DPRK.
If the Japanese reactionaries embark on an adventure of reinvading the Korean peninsula, riding on the U.S. war chariot, they will meet only death and destruction.
Righteous struggle to preserve nation's soul
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary describes the struggle of South Korean moviemen and people from other walks of life against the U.S. pressure on South Korea to open its market to American films and the South Korean ruling quarters' obedience to it as a patriotic struggle to preserve the soul of the nation and prevent the obliteration of national culture.
Recently the South Korean rulers yielded to the U.S. demand for drastic cutdown of the 146 day show of South Korean films a year from the year 2002 and screening of more U.S. films instead. In opposition to it, South Korean moviemen, the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the Citizens' Solidarity for Democratic Society and other dissident organizations, more than 30 in all, have been in an anti-U.S., anti-"government" struggle since mid-June.
The commentary says:
The South Korean rulers are about to drastically cut down even the days of South Korean film compulsory screening or totally abolish the compulsory screening system. This is part of the moves to obliterate the national culture and a treacherous act of benumbing man's consciousness and mental and cultural life and pushing the life of the moviemen to a blind corner.
It is entirely just and natural for moviemen and people of all social standings in South Korea to have risen in a powerful anti-U.S., anti-"government" struggle against the U.S. pressure to open a market to its films in a bid to make them ideological cripples and bring all sorts of misfortunes and disasters to them, and the authorities' servile obedience to it.
Their staunch struggle will certainly culminate in putting an end to the colonial fascist rule of the U.S. and the South Korean authorities, firmly defending the dignity and sovereignty of the nation and regaining the usurped culture and good manners and customs of the nation.
U.S. cannot frighten DPRK
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Some time ago, U.S. Defense Secretary Cohen called for a "strong military countermeasure" to "deter" the DPRK's "missile launch," repeating the U.S. insistence that north Korea's launch of a satellite for the peaceful space research was a "missile launch."
According to him, if the U.S. detects any sign of a "missile launch" by the DPRK, the "Kitty Hawk" aircraft carrier flotilla belonging to the U.S. 7th fleet in Japan will be dispatched to the waters off the Korean peninsula in 3 days and Japan-and Alaska-based fighter-bombers put on the alert.
This clearly proves that the U.S. military operation to make a preemptive strike at the DPRK has already entered the phase of implementation, a news analyst of Minju Joson today says, and continues:
The U.S. loudmouthed "threat" is no more than a fiction it faked up to militarily suffocate the DPRK.
The "military countermeasure" on the lips of the U.S. is aimed at securing a condition and pretext to make a preemptive attack on the north by justifying its madcap arms buildup in South Korea and rounding off the system of the tripartite military alliance grouping the U.S.-Japan and South Korea.
No escalating U.S. pressure will browbeat the DPRK or keep it from doing what it should do. On the contrary, it will compel the DPRK to further increase its capabilities to react to it.
We warn the U.S. once again that whether we launch a satellite or missile it belongs to our sovereign right.
Therefore, no one has the right to fault it.
If the U.S. projects a "military countermeasure" at any cost, the DPRK will retaliate against it with a stronger countermeasure.
Renowned sports scientist
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Ri Tong Gyu, football research room chief of the Sports Science Research Center is widely known for explaining football games in Korea.
Whenever foosball games are telecast by television he always kindly explains in detail not only all football teams at home and abroad but also individual player's career, physical condition, technical level and methods of playing.
His wide-range and in-depth explanation based on an accurate analysis and scientific prediction leads viewers to the soccer world.
He has been associated with the national television as a football caster since Juche 60 (1971).
Born in Japan, he took a fancy to football as a soccer player at the Tokyo Korean Middle and High School. After graduation from the faculty of physical culture of Tokyo University of Education, he worked as secretary general of the Korean Physical Culture and Sports Federation in Tokyo before returning to the homeland in October 1960.
It was thanks to the state care that he could become a sports scientist. He has made a devoted service for the development of football technique in the country.
Credit for the DPRK Football Team's success at the 8th World Football Championships also went to him who made a "circular chart based on statistical analysis" and introduced it into education and training as a scientific coach.
In 1973 when the April 25 Football Team was preparing for matches in Japan he provided basic information helpful to deciding the team's tactics, contributing to its successful games.
Upon its return home, he and the team had the honor of being received by the Marshal Kim Jong Il. The Marshal even proposed a toast to his success, praising his devoted efforts and expressing the belief that he would exert more efforts for the development of Korea's football.
In order to repay the profound trust of the Marshal he authored treatises "on Juche-oriented tactical system of our football" and "study of standard training quota suited to the physical feature of Korean players" and others, giving solutions to scientific and technical problems arising in the development of national football.
Projected anti-north "human rights" campaign denounced
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Students Committee issued a statement today denouncing the South Korean authorities for their vicious attempt to launch an anti-north "human rights" campaign through "government"-sponsored student organizations.
The spokesman says:
The "government"-sponsored "Association of General Student Councils, a rival to the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils" is planning to adopt a "human rights declaration" aimed at slinging mud at the north at a function called "peaceful 21st century" due at Seoul National University over August 9-11.
Prior to the event, the organization is going to launch an anti-north smear campaign among students.
The statement dismisses it as a silly and rash act of the reptile student organizations wire-pulled by the ruling quarters. The campaign is nothing but a despicable plot to tarnish the dignified image of the north at any cost and dampen the pro-north reunification sentiments running higher among the students and the people in South Korea with each passing day, it observes, and goes on:
The Korean Students Committee bitterly denounces the anti-north "human rights" campaign to be launched by the South Korean authorities through the government-sponsored student organizations as an intentional criminal act to incite antagonism against the fellow countrymen in the north and throw a wet blanket over the reconciliation and unity of the nation.
In fact, there can be no "human rights" issue in the Korean-style anthropocentric socialist society where the popular masses enjoy an independent and creative life as its masters.
South Korea is the world's worst wasteland of human rights in which the most elementary rights and freedom of people are ruthlessly trampled down.
The South Korean ruling quarters are not only harshly suppressing the patriotic students and pro-reunification patriots in their just struggle for the independence and democratization of the society and national reunification but also making millions of workers jobless by enforcing murderous "re-structuring" and "lay-off", driving them to starvation and death.
The projected campaign is, therefore, nothing but a move to divert elsewhere the public attention at home and abroad and cover up their serious human rights abuses.
The South Korean rulers should be clearly mindful that their ever more frantic anti-communist, anti-north smear campaign will lash people at home and abroad into a greater fury.

The message wished the president and people of Cote d' Ivoire success in their work for national unity and prosperity of the country and expressed the belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms.
