Expansion of "Intelligence Service"

Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement yesterday in connection with the recent disclosure of the fact that a "political corps" and "press corps" have been newly established in the "Intelligence Service" of South Korea.
    The statement said:
The South Korean ruling quarters newly set up large "political corps" and "press corps" under the "office for anti-communist policy" of the "Intelligence Service" in a bid to intensify political investigation and press control.
It shows once again that the South Korean authorities are leaving no stone unturned to bridge over the present serious ruling crisis at home and abroad.
The statement vehemently denounced the South Korean ruling quarters' expansion of the "Intelligence Service" as an unpardonable criminal move to revive the intelligence politics of the former military fascist dictatorship and drive South Korean society into the crucible of more severe fascist rule.
The intensified political investigation and press control prove that the present chief executive of South Korea is a more vicious and hateful ruler than the preceding military fascist cliques and "civilian government" fascists.
Under the "people's government" and the "Intelligence Service" neither independence and democratization of South Korean society nor national reunification, the ardent desire of all the fellow countrymen, can be achieved, the statement stressed.

Japan urged to apologize and compensate

Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- The Korean Association of A-bomb Victims for Anti-Nuke Peace issued a statement on Thursday in connection with the fact that the Japanese government has not made an honest apology and repentance of the crimes against the Korean people though half a century has passed but tries to justify them in all aspects.
If the Japanese government sees the 20th century out without liquidation of the past crimes Japan will not enjoy elementary trust but be disgraced and isolated from the international community, the statement said, and continued:
During the period of the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea, more than 6 million Koreans were drafted for forced labour and about 100,000 people suffered the damage of A-bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and upwards of 50,000 people died.
This notwithstanding, Japan is running headlong toward the road of militarism, the road of a nuclear power instead of drawing lessons from the past crimes and the war of aggression and taking the road of apology and repentance, the road of peace.
The Korean Association of A-bomb Victims for Anti-Nuke Peace requested the Japanese government to clarify that the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past were violations of the international law, frankly admit them, apologize for and repent of them and open to the public the past crimes including the forcible drafting of Koreans by all possible means.
The Japanese government should make state apology and compensation as soon as possible for the A-bomb victims who are residing in the DPRK and their families as well as the Korean A-bomb victims who died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and their families.

Today the President's earnest behest for reunification is being successfully carried out by the respected Marshal Kim Jong Il, he noted, and said the nation-wide struggle for smashing outsiders' interference and war moves and checking and frustrating the separatist moves of the flunkeyist and traitorous forces should be vigorously waged to open the decisive phase of national reunification.
Ri Song U, South Korean representative of the "National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification," said the separatist and war moves of the yankees and the sinister repression by the flunkeyist and traitorous regime of South Korea can never block the united struggle of the 70 million Koreans in the north, south of the country and overseas.     It said that the '99 Grand Pro-Reunification Festival for Independence and Great Unity of the Nation and the 10th pan-national rally should be adorned as the most significant grand rally for reunification and the grand nationwide march of reunification making a new breach of the reunification in the 2000s.

Appeal to world peace-loving people

Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- An appeal to the world's peace-loving people was adopted at the closing session of the "international forum calling for the demolition of the concrete wall" held here today.
The appeal said that humankind has a new hope and expectation for peace and prosperity with the 21st century at hand but an abnormal state persists on the Korean peninsula where the concrete wall still exists, bringing pain resulting from the division and confrontation to the Korean nation.
    It continued:
We confirmed on the spot once again the existence of the concrete wall which was once recognized by the press and even the military of the United States and confirmed by an international fact-finding group with its own eyes on the spot, and keenly realized what bitter misfortunes and sufferings the Korean people are undergoing due to the division and how strong the Korean people's will to pull down the barrier of division and reunify the country at any cost is.
But the South Korean authorities, under the patronage of the United States, have doggedly refused to demolish the concrete wall despite the protest from all the Korean people and broad international public circles, while further intensifying the confrontation and suffocation moves against the DPRK that has made every sincere effort for reunification.
The South Korean authorities' talk about "dialogue" and "unification," while keeping the concrete wall and the "National Security Law" which block the reunification of Korea as ever is nothing but empty words to deceive the world public opinion.
In league with outside forces they are mocking the world community with the outcries for "sunshine policy" and "policy of engagement with the north." Having worked out with the U.S. Even the adventurous scenario for the "second Korean war" called "operation plan 5027-98," they are driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of war hour by hour.
The military conflict at the west sea of Korea in June and the concentration of huge U.S. armed forces in the Korean peninsula on this pretext go to clearly prove that the "operation plan 5027-98" is entering a specific phase of its implementation.
The ever deteriorating situation on the Korean peninsula is arousing serious apprehension and concern among the world's peace-loving people.
It should be raised as a pressing problem of the present international politics to bring under early control the grave situation on the peninsula where the national sovereignty of the Korean people is wantonly violated by outside forces and their followers and a war may break out any moment.
Once again aware of the urgency to solve the Korean problem and the responsibility assumed by the international community in this regard, we who have striven for the peace and reunification of Korea appeal to the world people who love justice and peace as follows:
Let us raise the existence of the concrete wall on the Korean peninsula as an international issue and wage a more widespread protest campaign of various forms for its earlier demolition.
Let us brand the new reckless war provocations of the United States and the South Korean authorities to bring a holocaust of war to the Korean peninsula again, blinded by the extreme logic of "strength", as a grave criminal act of disturbing peace in Asia and the rest of the world, and lift up voices denouncing them.
The division of Korea is a source of the tension in this region.
Korea must be reunified at an early date in order to prevent an outbreak of a new war on the peninsula and ensure a durable peace there.
The three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity, the proposal for founding the democratic confederal republic of Koryo and the ten-point program of the great unity of the whole nation put forward by the great leader of the Korean people President Kim Il Sung and the five-point policy of the great national unity advanced by his excellency the respected Kim Jong Il represent a most realistic and reasonable way of smoothly achieving the reunification of Korea.
Let us extend more positive support and solidarity to the Korean people's cause to reunify the country independently and peacefully in accordance with the three charters of national reunification and the five-point policy of great national unity and with concerted efforts of the whole nation.
We are firmly convinced that all the peace-loving people of the world will heartily respond to this call.

Prior to the closing ceremony, the participants in the forum adopted a letter to General Secretary Kim Jong Il, an appeal to the world peace-loving people and a protest letter to the South Korean authorities.
The protest letter strongly urged the South Korean authorities to demolish the concrete wall without delay as demanded by all the Korean people and the world peace-loving people.
Demanding the South Korean authorities abolish anti-reunification and anti-national "National Security Law", release immediately all the imprisoned pro-reunification patriots and students and guarantee them freedom of pro-reunification patriotic movement, it said if the South Korean authorities truly want the reunification of the country, they should abandon the policy of depending upon outsiders and that of confrontation with the north and immediately make a switchover to the stand of national independence and the policy of alliance and reconciliation with the north.
Amar Bentoumi, president of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers and Honorary Chairman of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea, in his closing speech said that the participants in the forum strongly demanded the demolition of the concrete wall and expressed the belief that the world peace-loving people would positively support the just cause of the national reunification of the Korean people in the future, too.
