Repeal of "security law" demanded
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean rulers should not mislead the public opinion with their deceptive moves to "revise the security law" but totally abrogate it without delay as unanimously demanded by the South Korean people and the world peace-loving people, asserts Rodong Sinmun in a signed commentary today.
Recalling that the "Citizens Federation for Economic Justice" (Kyongsilryon) and the "Unification Association", an organization affiliated to it, have recently joined the struggle of pro-reunification movement organizations and dissident figures for the repeal of the "security law," asserting that the "security law" can no longer become an object of political bargain", the commentary observes: This proves that the abolition of the "security law" has become an irresistible demand of the South Korean people.
The "security law" brings no good but only harms to the Korean nation as it has made all those who call for independence, democracy and reunification victims to fascist suppression.
There is no justification to keep the "security law," an anachronistic anti-national, anti-democratic and anti-reunification fascist law, in force, the commentary says, adding that this is the very reason why the South Korean people are demanding its total repeal, not its partial "revision".
This notwithstanding, the South Korean rulers are trying to "revise" the law instead of its abolition. This is clear evidence that they are inveterate fascist tyrants and enemy who are dead set against independence, democracy and reunification.
The "security law" should be repealed at once as unanimously demanded by the South Korean people and the world progressives, concludes the commentary.
Jong Song Ok spotlighted in mass media
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The mass media in Pyongyang are giving wide publicity to the happy news for the nation that athlete Jong Song Ok placed first in the women's marathon race of the 7th World Athletics Championships.
No sooner had the exciting news been conveyed on august 29 than the mass media highlighted it.
For the last four consecutive days all papers here have carried photo-accompanied articles introducing her under the block-letter titles "Pride of Korean nation which brilliantly decorated 20th century," "Whole nation rejoices and world startled," "'Queen of marathon', proud daughter of nation who impressed world" and "Nation's pride soars in prospering land with spectacular success in sports," and so on.
Among them are articles titled "Daughter of Korea startles world," "Well done Korean-born world's queen of marathon" and "Great event of nation."
They emphasize among other things that it was thanks to the loving care of General Secretary Kim Jong Il that she could stand on the platform of glory.
This is well illustrated by articles "World's women's marathon title holder brought up by the great brilliant commander," "Key to emerging 'queen of marathon'," "Shining success of our marathon tactics."
The mass media has never been so keen on spotlighting success of an athlete as today.
Papers have dedicated each first page or one whole page to the news for several days.
Meanwhile, radio and television have echoed the voices of people from all walks of life in north and South Korea and overseas compatriots and the world's reaction irrespective of time. Television repeatedly aired the footage of her running the race.
Interviews with her family, teachers in her school days and those who had training with her are drawing particular attention of viewers.
It is also highlighted in the mass media that all the working people in the country, greatly encouraged by her success, are working miracles in the building of a powerful nation in the same speed as created by "queen of marathon."
It is underscored by them that today the world has witnessed a DPRK marathon runner crossing the final line before any other world ace runners but tomorrow it will see the DPRK hitting the goal to become a powerful nation.
Defunct "Northern Limit Line"
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The United States has lost the "Northern Limit Line" it set waywardly as the Military Demarcation Line at the West Sea of Korea.
The general staff of the Korean People's Army announced a special communique on Thursday, in which it declared the "Northern Limit Line" invalid and fixed the MDL at the West Sea of Korea.
According to it, the fixed demarcation line at the West Sea of Korea runs from the point "A" of the provincial boundary line (A-B) between Hwanghae-do and Kyonggi-do to the maritime border line between Korea and China, passing through the point (37 degrees 18 minutes 30 seconds N, 125 degrees 31 minutes 00 seconds E) equidistant from Tungsangot, the tip of Kangryong peninsula under the DPRK control, and Kulop Island under the U.S. military control = the point (37 degrees 1 minute 12 seconds N, 124 degrees 55 minutes 00 second E) equidistant from Ong Island under the DPRK control and Sogyokryolbi and Sohyop islands under the U.S. military control = and the point southwest (36 degrees 50 minutes 45 seconds N, 124 degrees 32 minutes 30 seconds E). As a result, the waters north of the line have come under the KPA side's military control.
A grave armed conflict took place between the KPA and the South Korean puppet army in the waters of the west sea on June 15.
The conflict between the two sides brought about an unprecedented tragedy of bloodshed that claimed sinking of battleships and human losses.
The military conflicts were mainly ascribable to their different assertion about the maritime demarcation line.
The DPRK and the United States have had six rounds of general officer-level meetings, two rounds of colonel-level meetings and several contacts between staff officers so far to prevent recurrence of conflicts in the waters at issue and ease the tense situation.
At the meetings and contacts the KPA side proposed to fix the Military Demarcation Line by extending the provincial boundary line between Hwanghae-do and Kyonggi-do (A-B) stipulated in paragraph 13, B of the Korean Armistice Agreement.
On the contrary, the U.S. forces side insisted on the "Northern Limit Line".
The "Northern Limit Line" is an illegal line that the U.S. forces side unilaterally set deep inside the DPRK territorial waters, disregarding the KAA and the international law.
The U.S. forces side's insistence on the "line" was an grave encroachment upon the DPRK's sovereignty and, after all, the meetings produced no results.
Thus, the KPA side could not but take its unilateral option.
The DPRK will exercise its right to defend the waters under its military control.

He resolved to add luster to the era of Kim Jong Il with success in sports.
Her father Jong Yong Thaek, the work-team leader of the Haeju Processing Combine in South Hwanghae Province, said:

DPRK public organizations demand release of delegates
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- An emergency joint meeting of the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the National Reconciliation Council, the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the north headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification was held in Pyongyang today in connection with the arrest of the south side delegates upon their coming back from the '99 Grand Pro-Reunification Festival and the 10th pan-national rally.
The joint meeting discussed immediate measures to counter the South Korean authorities' unreasonable arrest of the south side delegates.
Jo Kyu Il, director of the secretariat of the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, maintained in his report that the south side delegates' participation in the grand pan-national pro-reunification festival was a very just patriotic action prompted by their noble desire to achieve the reunification through alliance and reconciliation with the north and national unity.
The reporter went on:
The South Korean authorities branded the South Korean delegates' participation in the grand festival as a "secret visit to the north" and their pro-reunification patriotic activities as "acts of benefiting the enemy". This is nothing but a premeditated and intentional criminal move to throw a wet blanket over the desire for reunification growing strong among the compatriots, occasioned by this festival, and block the hard-won three-way solidarity and alliance among compatriots in the north, south and overseas.
He underscored the need for all organizations of reunification movement and people from all walks of life in South Korea to set the struggle for the release of pro-reunification patriotic figures as their urgent task and vigorously struggle to implement it in solidarity and unity.
The South Korean authorities should drop their anachronistic views on confrontation with the north, guarantee the freedom of activities to all forces desirous of reunification through alliance with the north and immediately release the delegates of pro-reunification patriotic organizations, he urged.
An appeal to the South Korean people from all walks of life was adopted at the meeting.
The appeal said that an energetic struggle for the release of the delegates is not just a struggle to save a few pro-reunification patriotic figures but a just patriotic struggle to defend democracy and rights of people from fascism and bring about a phase of a turning point in national unity and reunification.
The appeal called for fully supporting and encouraging the struggle of the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon), the "National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification" and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils Hanchongryon for the release of the delegates who visited the north and tearing off the South Korean authorities' provision branding the south headquarters of Pomminryon and "Hanchongryon" as "enemy benefiting organizations" and defending the pro-reunification patriotic organizations from the fascist suppression.
Pointing out that the "National Security Law" in South Korea is a rare fascist law for division which antagonizes compatriots and bars the national unity and reunification, the appeal calls for escalating the struggle to scrap the "NSL" rejected and denounced at home and abroad, checking and frustrating the South Korean ruling quarters' anti-north confrontation and their "cooperation" with foreign forces intended to do harm to compatriots.
The appeal underscores the need to strongly reject the "engagement policy" and the "argument about the principal enemy" on the lips of the South Korean ruling quarters intended to obstruct the normalization of the north-south relations and fan up north-south confrontation and thoroughly implement the three charters of national reunification and the five-point policy of great national unity, the great banners for national reunification and national unity, and thus accelerate the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
The appeal said that all people in the north will as ever fully support the just struggle of the South Korean people.
Present at the meeting were senior officials of political parties and social organizations including Kim Yong Dae and O Ik Je.

S. Korean pro-reunification organizations arrested
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities arrested delegates of South Korean pro-reunification organizations Thursday for investigation as soon as they came back from the pan-national pro-reunification festival after crossing the Military Demarcation Line, according to a radio report from Seoul.
They are going to punish the delegates by the "National Security Law" on charges that they "joined the propaganda of the north".
This is an unpardonable challenge to the entire nation desirous of national reunification and another hideous crime committed by the anti-reunification elements.
