Still in springtime of life

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- No one will dare deny the opinion that a dancer's popularity is only for the prime of life. But this expectation was upset when People's Artiste Hong Jong Hwa gave a recent solo dance on her 60th birthday at the April 25 House of Culture, gratifying the audience with her full range of refined prowess.
The famous dancer, seemingly in her forties, dominated the stage with elastic grace in "ecstasy", "drum dance" and "gang dance," reeling out complex subtleties surprising even for young dancers.
She was born second daughter of a railway worker. At the age of 17, she finished the state dance school and made her debut in national dance.
Endowed with unusually quick reflexes, she was a dancer of surpassing zeal and energy. She trained so hard that her feet often bled and her toe-nails were pinched out. Finally she became expert at superb movement, quite a challenge to her colleagues. At 20, she established her reputation at home and abroad.
Her dance works continued to improve on national and modern lines and became representative of Korean national dance.
She is credited with a total of 160 pieces of dance which have been a favorite at home and in some 50 countries.
President Kim Il Sung met her a dozen times and highly praised her accomplishments.
She is now working as a senior choreographer at the song and dance ensemble of the Korean People's Army.
On August 19 this year, leader Kim Jong Il honored her with a 60th-birthday dinner. She was moved to tears and vowed to devote the rest of her life to national dance.
"In my country of Kim Il Sung's nation", she said, "sixty is the prime of life and ninety is the first step to old age. I'm still as young as my heart."

He said that he would always stand on the side of the Korean people who are struggling for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

The suspended negotiations for opening diplomatic relations between Japan and the DPRK can never be resumed unless Japan liquidates its past history, they noted.

Meritorious scientist enjoys eternal life

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- There are not a few scientists in the DPRK who enjoy immortality after dedicating their whole lives to scientific researches.
Academician Kye Ung Sang is one of them.

He was a geneticist and sericultural scholar who researched into silkworm all his life.

And he was an author of many treatises and scientific and technical books that academically systematize achievements in scientific researches and experience in production.

Joint meeting of DPRK political parties and organizations

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- A joint meeting of political parties and organizations in the DPRK was held here today.
Present there were presidium member of the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland Yun Ki bok, chairman of the c.c., the Korean Social Democratic Party Kim Yong Dae and other representatives of political parties and organizations and religious groups and officials concerned.
The joint meeting discussed measures to cope with the noteworthy situation created in South Korea by the issue of rewriting or abolishing the "National Security Law."
Kim Yong Dae made a report at the meeting, which was followed by speeches.
The reporter and speakers branded the "NSL" of South Korea as a mediaeval fascist law whereby elementary human rights and freedom are mercilessly violated, and as a cancer-like obstacle to national reconciliation and unity and reunification of the country.
This evil law incriminates any contact of the South Korean people and pro-reunification patriots with the fellow countrymen in the north and stipulates as "anti-state" action any righteous pro-reunification patriotic activities for reconciliation and unity, they pointed out.
There is no ground whatsoever to keep the "security law" in South Korea as it is illegal in view of basic judicial principles or the demand of the times, they said, stressing:
It is impossible for our nation to greet a new century of reunification and prosperity as long as such leftover of the cold war era, which puts ism above the nation and sacrifices the national interests for the "security" of anti-social system, remains.
The South Korean authorities are talking about the revision of the "security law" these days. But this will mean rewriting just a few unessential provisions of the "law," leaving main framework untouched. After all, it will remain unchanged in its nature as the fascist law, they held.
They stressed that all the political parties, organizations and personages from all walks of life at home and abroad who truly hope for democracy and reunification, should unite in solidarity with each other and launch a powerful joint struggle for the abrogation of the "security law."
An appeal to political parties and organizations in South Korea was adopted at the meeting.
Describing the "security law" as a legal mechanism for confrontation and division and a noose of fascism, which are incompatible with national unity and reunification, the appeal demanded a complete and total repeal of this "law."
However, the South Korean authorities are refusing to meet this demand while deleting just a few provisions or rewriting terminology. This means that they will continue their bloody repression of the people by this "law," the bayonet of fascism, it said.
It called upon the political parties and organizations and personages from all walks of life in South Korea to determinedly turn out in the joint struggle to totally root out the "security law."

African nations' effort for integration of continent

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the democratic people's republic of Korea today answered the question put by KCNA as regards the intensified efforts exerted recently by the African nations to attain the politico-economic integration of the continent.
    The spokesman said:
Some African countries, maintaining that it is important, above all, to attain political unity and economic integration in order to ensure peace and security of the continent and achieve its progress on the eve of the 21st century, are now jointly working to this end.
In particular, the special summit of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) held in Libya in early September marked an important occasion in coordinating the African nations' assertions about continental integrity and taking a specific practical measure.
Such assertions of the African nations and their efforts for the integrity of the continent are very justifiable in view of demands of the present-day international situation for peace and friendship, progress and development and the actual conditions of the African nations.
The master of Africa is the African people themselves under any circumstances and issues of Africa can be settled only by their concerted efforts, not by any outside forces.
If they attain political unity and economic integration, they can ensure lasting peace and security of the continent and build powerful Africa free from all manner of domination and subjugation.
The DPRK is firmly convinced that the African people will unfailingly build developed and prosperous Africa through political unity and economic integration as they ultimately destroyed the colonial system in the continent through their joint struggle in the past.
