National defence power, right to self-defence

Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- To build up defence power is the exercise of the right to self-defence, stresses a signed article of Rodong Sinmun today.
The international situation today compels the revolutionary countries to more firmly build up the defence power for their legitimate self-protection as never before, the article says.
The imperialists have declared it their "victory" that the cold war ended and the balance of forces broke out only to reveal their high-handedness and arrogance, observes the paper, adding that no one knows which country will fall next victim of invasion by the U.S. whose arrogance reached its height.
    It goes on:
To build up strong defence power is a most important matter for the Korean people as they are building socialism in the upper part of the divided country in direct confrontation with the U.S., the chieftain of world reaction.
Therefore, it is the exercise of the right to self-defence for the DPRK to build up defence power.
The Korean people loves peace more than anybody else but does not beg for peace. It is their steadfast will to protect Korean-style socialism and consolidate and develop it to the last.
It is the national right to self-determination and the right to choice admitted by the UN, too.
The DPRK has built up its defence power very expensively.
The Korean people have strengthened the defence capabilities to the maximum fastening their belts.
The DPRK is steadfastly defending the fundamental interests of the revolution and the dignity of the country resolutely countering the imperialists' moves against socialism and the DPRK. This is attributable to the strong self-reliant defence power.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il pursues high-priority army policy, his main political method embodied in the revolution and construction.
It is the great vitality of the high-priority army policy that the DPRK has defended its sovereignty and has prevented the war from breaking out on the Korean peninsula despite persevering moves of the imperialist allied forces to stifle the DPRK politically, militarily and economically.
The DPRK will not change its attitude to build up self-reliant defence power.

U.S. apology and compensation urged

Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland and the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland yesterday issued a joint statement urging the U.S. to make an apology and compensation for the disclosed massacre committed by the U.S. aggressor troops in South Korea during the last Korean War.
    The joint statement said:
Despite the brutal murder by the U.S. troops, which had been kept secret for nearly 50 years, was verified as an irrefutable fact, the U.S. authorities are meanly scheming to becloud the truth behind the case, hush up public opinion and escape the responsibility for it, talking about "lack of evidence" and "sinister assertion."
The South Korean rulers are resorting to a traitorous move to cover up the murder case, spelling out a sophism that they hope "the case will not give evil influence to the South Korea-U.S. relations, the statement said, and continued:
The moves of the U.S. and the South Korean rulers are an unpardonable attempt to keep the murder case secret forever and calm down the growing anti-American sentiment in South Korea.
The massacre recently disclosed in Rogun-ri is no more than a part of the atrocities committed by the U.S. in Korea.
Fleeing to the south during the war, the U.S. savagely murdered 1,146 people in Suwon, over 2,060 in Chungju, over 600 in Kongju and Pyongthak respectively, over 2,000 in Buyo and Chongju respectively, 8,644 in Taejon, over 4,000 in Jonju, over 400 in Kunsan and Anyang respectively and over 800 in Thongyong.
A U.S. news reported on September 15, 1951 that the number of people killed by the u.s. Troops in South Korea amounted to one million.
The brutal massacre was committed by the U.S. troops in the North Korea, too. They murdered 35,383 innocent people in Sinchon, South Hwanghae Province, or a quarter of the county population for 52 days.
The U.S. should acknowledge the massacre in Rogun-ri, a stark fact, and compensate for it.
At the same time the U.S. should apologize and unconditionally compensate to the Korean people for the thrice-cursed murder, plunder and arson by their troops in South Korea for over 50 years and in the northern half of Korea during the past Korean War and should withdraw from South Korea, taking along their aggressor troops and all lethal weapons.
The South Korean rulers should immediately stop their base flunkeyist and treacherous acts of patronizing the massacre by the U.S. troops and selling out the dignity and interests of the nation.
Our fellow countrymen will make the U.S. aggressors pay for the blood of the Korean nation however long the time may pass.
