Day of UN observed

Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Papers here today observe the day of the UN in their signed articles papers point to the enormous efforts exerted by the UN to ensure the peace and security of the world and the social and economic development in the developing countries since its foundation.
Noting that the principle of justice and impartiality is ignored in the international relations and the principle of sovereignty and equality is shaken in UN activities, Rodong Sinmun says:
The coming 21st century should be a century based on independence in which power politics and arbitrary practice are no longer allowed and the sovereignty of all countries is equally respected.
To this end, all member countries of the UN should make efforts to check power politics and arbitrary practice in the international relations and to establish a fair international order.
The issue of the democratic reform of the UN is high on its agenda.
It is important for the democratic reform of the UN to raise its authority and reform the Security Council.
Impartiality will be ensured in UN activities and power politics and arbitrary practice of individual countries be prevented if the UN General Assembly is mandated to handle such important problems as ensuring global peace and security and finalize such important resolutions of the security council as those on sanctions and use of force, in particular.
At the same time, the Security Council should be reformed in such a way as to ensure that all regions are equally represented in the Security Council and all its activities are open to the fullest extent.
Minju Joson says that the world people wish to see the UN reformed democratically to work true to its noble mission and task.

Negation of national history

Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Such criminal acts as insulting Tangun, the ancestral father of the Korean nation, and besmirching his fame are being perpetrated in South Korea. Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary dismisses these acts as a negation of the nation and its history and moves to shield the past crimes of the Japanese in distorting them.
    The commentary says:
The excavation of the Tangun tomb irrefutably proved that he actually existed and a Japanese document testifying to the fact was also uncovered. Such assertions as denying his existence in spite of all facts can be made only by pro-Japanese elements and traitors to the nation like "five traitors of 1905."
The South Korean rulers are conniving at and encouraging the campaign launched by some dishonest religious organizations against the erection of Tangun's statue.
It is clear that the South Korean authorities are conspiring with such criminals.
It is the worst crime to deny the history of the nation.
The South Korean rulers are the group of worst traitors, ignorant of the nation, ethics and morality.
The Koreans in the north, south and overseas will surely make them pay for their treacheries generation after generation.

Disarmament is need of times

Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today devotes a signed article to the week of disarmament observed worldwide.
It has become a trend of the times to call for disarmament in the efforts to defend the peace and security of the world, but the imperialists persist in their arms race to realize their wild dream of dominating the world, the article notes and goes on:
The anti-imperialist, peace-loving forces must unite as one in the struggle to crush the war moves and arms race of the imperialists.
Strenuous efforts should be made to build nuclear-free peace zones in various parts of the world and steadily expand them.
The issue of disarmament should be resolved on the Korean peninsula before any other regions.
The U.S. continues staging large war exercises after amassing nuclear weapons, latest war equipment and huge aggression forces in and around South Korea.
The DPRK government advanced reasonable proposals and ways to ensure the peace of the Korean peninsula and has made every possible effort to materialize them.
The Korean people will continue to struggle resolutely against the imperialists' aggression and arms race in keeping with the contemporary trend of peace and disarmament in the future, too.
