Unassuming collier of merit
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The people who have devoted their all to the construction of a powerful nation in the revolutionary spirit of soldiers are given prominence in the Korean society.
Among them is Kim Yu Bong, a coal miner of the February 8 Jikdong Youth Coal Mining conglomerate.
He has remained true to the plan of General Secretary Kim Jong Il for the building of a powerful nation through increased coal production.
After his military service he volunteered to work at the coal mine in November Juche 75 (1986) in hearty response to the call of the party and the leader for increased production of coal.
Over the past 13 years he has been the first to over-fulfil his yearly quota at the coal mine. For the last 12 years he has greatly helped the collective turn out what was under the 27 years' plan.
He, a party cell secretary, contributed to the conversion of the collective into a twice winner of the three-revolution red flag, his cell into the one loyal to the party, and a primary organization of youth league into a thrice model primary organization of youth vanguard as well as to the promotion of at least 60 people to officials of primary organizations and the emergence of over 40 new members of the Worker's Party of Korea.
Kim Jong Il made him a merited coal miner and a person of distinguished service. It was under his loving care that he participated in meetings such as a meeting of party cell secretaries and the 2nd meeting of the frontrankers of the three-revolution red flag movement.
Ryongthong Temple and prince of Koryo
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Archaeologists have recently unearthed remains of the Ryongthong Temple, a main Buddhist sanctuary from the Koryo dynasty. A restoration project is now under way.
The temple is located in Ryonghung-dong, Kaesong. It is here that Ui Chon, Buddhist priest and founder of Chon Thae Jong, the main sect of Buddhism in Korea at the time, led the monastic life. There still remain his tomb and a monument to his achievements.
Ui Chon (1054-1101) was the fourth son of Mun Jong, the 11th King of Koryo. His original name was Wang Hu and Ui Chon was his minor name.
It was an established practice that in case the king had three or more sons one of them had to become a priest.
According to this custom, Ui Chon left the royal palace for the Ryongthong Temple to take tonsure at the age of 11.
A clever and intelligent boy, he entered the top order at the age of 13.
He was not only a devout Buddhist follower but a good scholar who was keenly interested in the nation's social and economic progress.
In April 1085, he collected some 1,000 books (7,500 volumes according to the epitaph) and later, over 4,000 sutras, to compile Buddhist scriptures.
In March 1087, a print shop was set up at the Hunghwang Temple, which published 4,740 volumes of sutras, which was divided into 1,010 parts, in a less than a year.
While being the chief priest of the Kukchong Temple in 1097, he presented well-grounded arguments in support of the circulation of coins.
He wrote many books and literary works, and died in October 1101 at the Ryongthong Temple.
S. Korean ruling quarters' fraud
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The South Korean chief executive was reported on October 22 to have called heads of the "National Congress for New Politics" and the "United Liberal Democrats" to "Chongwadae" and "instructed" them which article of the "security law" should be deleted and which part be revised.
And he asserted that "communism should be destroyed not by blockade but by opening".
This is an unpardonable challenge to the public at home and abroad which calls for the total abrogation of the "security law," not partial revision. It only reveals once again the present chief executive's true colors as a fascist.
To drop attempt to introduce "electronic system for watch"
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Association for Human Rights Studies in the DPRK issued a statement Monday denouncing the South Korean authorities for attempting to introduce even "electronic system" to watch "those under supervision for public peace".
The projected "electronic system for watch" is another repressive measure to introduce electronic devices against "those under supervision for public peace" who were released through stay of execution or on parole, in order to watch and control round the clock all their movements including "departure from their abodes" and "their job performance", the statement said, and went on:
This is a hideous human rights abuse as the South Korean authorities are working hard to put such dreadful shackles as the "electronic system for watch" on guiltless people who are "under supervision for public peace".
To force people to carry such electronic devices known to be installed on feet of animals and watch and control their every movement through them is as bad as treating human beings like animals. This is the most intolerable contempt and insult to human beings and a mockery of the achievements made by humankind in modern science and technology.
They are, in actuality, working hard to maintain at any cost the fascist "security law" violating human rights, talking about its "reform" despite the unanimous demand at home and abroad for its total repeal.
The South Korean rulers had better stop raising a hue and cry over someone's "human rights issue" and drop at once their plan to introduce an "electronic system for watch" and immediately rescind "the security law" and "the law on supervision for public peace."
"99 Foal Eagle" joint military exercise denounced
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary assails the "Foal Eagle" joint war exercise launched by the South Korean authorities with the U.S. as a serious military provocation and an undisguised aggressive move against the DPRK.
The commentary says:
The war exercise is participated in by over 35,000 U.S. troops including the U.S. aggression forces stationed in South Korea, more than 500,000 "ROK army" forces, nuclear-powered carrier "Kitty Hawk" belonging to the 7th U.S. fleet and a large amount of war equipment.
Pointing to the bellicose and offensive nature of the maneuver, the commentary goes on: They unveiled the "operation plan 5027-98" which envisages a "forestalling attack" and "preemptive strikes" against the DPRK and have staged war exercises of diverse scale for its realization almost every day.
The "Foal Eagle" war exercise may lead to an all out war against the north.
If the U.S. and the South Korean authorities finally provoke a war on the Korean peninsula against the north, while staging such a reckless war rehearsal as "Foal Eagle" the people's army and people of Korea will deal a crushing blow to the enemies and root out the very source of war in this land.
Servile solicitation
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The South Korean chief executive on Oct. 23 begged the Japanese Prime Minister on a visit to Jeju Island to attend the South Korea-Japan "ministerial meeting" to realize the South Korean visit of the Japanese "Emperor" who represents the spirit of samurais, a Seoul-based radio reported.
This is something that can be done only by a guy whose preoccupation is pro-Japanese flunkeyist treacheries.
Though more than half a century has passed since its defeat, Japan has not made any apology or compensation for its crimes committed against the Korean nation. On the contrary, it is stretching out tentacles of reinvasion and employing every possible means and method to bleed the South Korean people white.
This notwithstanding, the chief executive of South Korea asked the Japanese Prime Minister to materialize the South Korean trip of "Emperor" who is symbolic of Japanese militarists, the sworn enemy of the Korean nation. This is no more than an act of putting the "five traitors in 1905" into the shade.
The Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Japan reportedly said that they would work to realize the "Emperor's" South Korean visit at the earliest possible date.
Pro-Japanese traitors denounced
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The South Korean chief executive in a recent meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister on a visit to South Korea to attend the Japan-South Korea "ministerial meeting" begged him to realize the South Korean visit of the "Emperor." Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary lambastes this as pro-Japanese treachery.
The commentary says:
Japanese "Emperor" whom the South Korean authorities are so anxious to bring into South Korea is the symbol of the Japanese who imposed the colonial rule on the Korean people for nearly half a century and inflicted all kinds of misfortune and sufferings upon them.
The Japanese reactionaries are openly whetting the sword to launch reinvasion, far from liquidating its criminal past and apologizing to the Korean nation for it.
The South Korean authorities sold off Tok Islet, an inalienable part of the territory of the nation, and its surrounding fishing grounds to Japan, their master. They are polluting and obliterating national culture by introducing the Japanese fashions and way of life. These are worst crimes indelible down through generations to come as they are not only selling the country but laying a bridge for the Japanese militarist forces' reinvasion.
The South Korean authorities should stop serving the U.S. and Japanese masters, if they do not want to be thrown into the garbage ground of history as pro-Japanese flunkeyists and traitors worse than the "five traitors of 1905."
Deceptive "inspection of administration" rejected
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The solidarity organization for watching the "inspection of administration" which consists of more than 40 civic and public organizations in South Korea called a press conference at the "National Assembly" on October 20 and denounced the deceptive "inspection of administration," according to a radio report from Seoul.
The organization said the "inspection of administration" turned out to be a forum that patronizes the criminals due to repeated non-essential questions and lack of preparations on the part of "assemblymen" and briberies from the institutions concerned.
The organization demanded that all aspects of "inspection of administration" be opened to the public and measures for putting an end to the unfair "inspection" be taken.
Move to check workers' political activities in S. Korea
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The General Association of Business Managers of South Korea held a meeting on Oct. 20 and announced the detailed punishment rules to check the workers' political activities, a Seoul-based radio said.
In the rules the reactionary association said that in case workers participate in various "election" campaigns, they will be considered to be away from work and the "elect" will be dismissed. It also said union meetings, entry and lectures of outsiders and dissemination of propaganda literature will be prohibited and that those who violate the rules will be punished.
The radio said this announcement will evoke serious repercussions on the labour camp under the situation in which political activities of the workers including those of the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions are believed to get into full stride.
No reason to keep "security law"
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Members of the Citizens Federation for Economic Justice, the Bar Association for Democratic Society and the Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society had a seminar for the repeal of the "security law," a South Korean newspaper said.
The participants expressed indignation at the authorities' fraudulent move to rewrite only a few articles of the "security law" and demanded its total repeal, stating that there is no reason to keep the "security law" and "a partial revision of the security law would be of no help to the development of the south-north relations and reunification."
Kim Jong Hui, secretary of the "people's solidarity opposed to the 'security law'", also called for its repeal.
Recalling that the preceding dictatorial regimes invoked the "security law" to suppress the people, he pointed out the present "government" is no exception.
Even international organizations are critical of the "security law" because it suppresses the free expression of one's will and idea and freedom of association and others, he added.
S. Korean rulers' moves to develop nuclear weapons assailed
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The Korean Anti-Nuke Peace Committee issued a statement on Monday as regards the uninterrupted serious radioactive leakage in South Korea.
The statement said:
The radioactive damage caused again by leakage of heavy water at the Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant in South Korea is an inevitable outcome of the South Korean rulers' reckless moves to develop nuclear weapons.
The reactor vulnerable to accident at the nuclear power plant was purchased from abroad for the purpose of extracting plutonium and making nukes. The rulers have extracted fine plutonium from this heavy water reactor by using natural uranium as raw material and heavy water as moderator and developed nuclear weapons.
Canada was forced to stop the reactor construction and suspend the operation of the existing seven heavy water reactors in face of public opposition as 30-50 kg of heavy water leaks out of its reactor every day at the time of normal operation, hundreds of kilograms at the maximum.
However, the South Korean rulers, keen on the development of nuclear weapons, have ceaselessly operated the reactor despite an unbroken chain of accidents in a bid to extract plutonium. This brought such grave consequences.
Unpardonable are their moves to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of the atomic power plant.
They must stop at once the dangerous nuclear weapon development which gravely threatens the destiny of the country and the nation and promptly discontinue the operation and building of the heavy water reactor.
Bulletin printed in Peru
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The Peru-Korea Institute of Culture and Friendship on Oct. 18 printed a bulletin to mark the fifth anniversary of the publication of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Socialism Is a Science."
