Provocative joint military exercises denounced
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Nepal Worker-Peasant Party issued a statement on October 27 denouncing the "Foal Eagle" joint military exercise of the U.S. and South Korean authorities and the military maneuver of the Japanese Maritime "Self-Defence Force."
The statement recalled that the U.S., South Korea and Japan launched large-scale war military exercises in and around the Korean peninsula with huge aggressor forces and large-quantities of military hardware.
Noting that those exercises breed a serious situation in the region and, moreover, threaten the global peace and security, the statement strongly demanded an immediate halt to the war drills.
Publication anniversary of Kim Jong Il's work marked
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the fifth anniversary of the publication of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Socialism Is a Science."
Lauding the greatness of Kim Jong Il who has defended socialism under the red flag, the article says:
Five years have passed since the work was published on November 1, Juche 83 (1994). They were significant years when the socialist cause of Juche was firmly defended and victoriously accelerated thanks to Marshal Kim Jong Il's idea of red flag, iron faith and wise guidance.
In those years of sacred revolutionary history the Korean people have felt his greatness more deeply.
The greatness of the Marshal who has led the cause of socialism to victory can be found, above all, in the fact that he has firmly defended the socialist principles in all fields of revolution and construction.
The red flag idea of the Worker's Party of Korea means unfailingly loyalty to the principles of revolution, the socialist principles. The most important idea of the work "socialism is a science" is that we will make no concession as to the principles of revolution adhered to by the President Kim Il Sung.
With the steadfast revolutionary principle Kim Jong Il has strictly ensured the political leadership of the party and the unified guidance of the state and firmly defended the socialist ownership. It was thanks to his principled leadership that even under the difficult conditions of the "arduous march," the forced march, our party could consistently shape popular policies and maintain the socialist way of combining political and moral incentive with material incentive while giving priority to the former.
His greatness was also manifested in the fact that he had reliably defended the socialist fatherland with the army-first policy. His army-first policy is the unique socialist way of politics under which all the problems arising in the revolution and construction are solved on the principle of giving priority to the army and socialism is accelerated in all aspects with the people's army as a main pillar.
His greatness is also that he had brought about a great revolutionary upswing in socialist construction with the might of single-hearted unity. As a result, a strong springboard has been laid for the building of a powerful nation and the powerful 2nd grand Chollima march has been launched across the country in the period of stern trials.
Under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il the Korean people will advance the socialist cause of Juche victoriously.
Escalating "Foal Eagle" assailed
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The U.S. warmongers and the South Korean authorities are escalating the aerial war exercise, timed to coincide with the on-going provocative "Foal Eagle 99" joint military exercises, according to military sources.
They launched a "demonstration aerial drill" on Oct. 31 in the air above Ryoju area by mobilizing fighters of the U.S. aggressors from overseas bases and more than 40 fighter-bombers, assault planes and planes for special operation belonging to the U.S. air force in South Korea and the South Korean air force.
Earlier, over 80 fighter-bombers and pursuit-assault planes belonging to the U.S. aggressors and the "ROK" army as "striking force" and "covering force" staged an "aerial intercepting drill" in the air above Nyongwol and Thaebaek areas on October 30.
On the same day more than 70 pursuit-assault planes, helicopters and fighters were mobilized in the "drill of supporting landing", and pursuit-assault planes and anti-submarine patrol planes in the "drill for special operation" in the air above Jik Islet area.
C-141 transport planes of the U.S. aggressors flew into an operational theatre in the Osan area from overseas and C-12 and C-130 transport planes of the U.S. and the "ROK" army were busy airlifting war equipment to various parts of South Korea on October 30 and 31.
More than 600 fighters were involved in the aggressive war exercises in the sky of South Korea on these days.
U-2 high-altitude strategic reconnaissance plane, RC-7b, RC-12, RF-4c and other tactical reconnaissance planes made shuttle flights from east to west day and night for an aerial photographing and electronic reconnaissance on the forefront area along the Military Demarcation Line and the in-depth of the DPRK.
The daily intensified war exercises against the DPRK lay bare the true colors of the U.S. and the South Korean authorities.
Pro-democracy organization inaugurated
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The Society to Commemorate the Pro-Democracy Movement was formed recently in Seoul by over 500 political figures who conducted a pro-democracy movement during the military fascist dictatorship, according to a report.
The society in an inaugural declaration noted that it would draw lessons from the past pro-democracy movement and more vigorously wage the movement.
It declared that it would strengthen support to the organizations actively involved in the movement and build a memorial of the pro-democracy movement to convey its feats to posterity.
U.S.-Japan joint military exercise denounced
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The Socialist Unionist Party of Syria issued a statement on October 23 denouncing the U.S.-Japan joint military exercise.
The statement said:
The exercise is obviously an undisguised act of casting a shadow on the Korean people's future because the aggressive military exercise of the imperialist forces is aimed at provoking a war against the DPRK, our friendly state, a powerful ally and a country of comrades-in-arms, guided by the great Kim Jong Il.
We strongly denounce this play with fire under way in the Korean peninsula as well as all other imperialist war exercises.
We will stand by the DPRK in its struggle against imperialism and for Korean reunification.
The statement demanded a halt to all forms of imperialist war exercises against the DPRK.
Joint appeal for Korea's reunification released
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland and the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland on Monday made public a joint appeal to the political parties and organizations and figures of different circles in South Korea and overseas to open up a new phase of national reunification by putting the nation-wide pressure upon the South Korean authorities who have been turning aside from the priorities for independence and great unity of the nation.
The primary tasks for realising the independence and great unity of the nation are to terminate the "cooperation" with foreign forces and the joint military exercises in South Korea, abolish the "security law" and ensure the freedom of organizations and figures' pro-reunification patriotic movement and activities, the appeal said, and went on:
Early this year the DPRK government, political parties and organizations set forth the tasks as priorities to be implemented by the South Korean authorities but they are further running amuck in the sycophantic and anti-north confrontation moves.
It called for strongly checking the "cooperation" with foreign forces and the joint military drills in South Korea.
The South Korean authorities' "cooperation" with foreign forces is treachery intended to stifle the fellow countrymen in collusion with the U.S. and Japanese aggression forces, it said, calling for exposing and denouncing the anti-national nature and danger of the "cooperation."
It also called for decisively checking the anti-national moves of the South Korean authorities who are acting a shock brigade in the U.S. suffocation and isolation moves against the DPRK and thoroughly frustrating their pro-Japanese treacherous moves such as selling off Tok Islet and fishing grounds around it and opening the door for reinvasion of South Korea.
It underscored the need to thoroughly frustrate all forms of the U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises ,the joint military drills with the "Self-Defence Forces" of Japan and tripartite joint military drills of the U.S., Japan and South Korea, and intensify the anti-U.S. nationwide resistance to get the U.S. forces withdrawn from South Korea.
It called for abolishing the "security law" in South Korea without delay.
Noting that the "revision of 'security law'" by the South Korean authorities is a third-rate political trick, it called upon all the Koreans to join in the struggle for decisively frustrating the "revision of 'security law' " and completely abolishing the "security law".
It also called for thoroughly smashing the South Korean authorities' repressive moves to block the freedom of the activities of pro-reunification patriotic organizations and figures.
Saying that the implementation of the three priorities in South Korea can never be expected without the solidarity and joint struggle of the north, south and overseas Koreans, it called upon all organizations and figures in South Korea and overseas to turn out in the grand march for reunification.
U.S. urged not to behave impertinently
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary slams some quarters of the United States for shooting off ridiculous piffles these days about the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations.
They said that as the improved DPRK-U.S. relations would bring benefit to the DPRK, the improvement process must not be forced on the DPRK and that it is the "goal" of the U.S. to make the DPRK opt for the improvement.
The commentary dismisses these.
The improvement of the relations between the DPRK and the U.S. is intended on any account for putting an end to the hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S. and establishing instead good neighborly relations between them.
The worsening relations between the two countries would adversely affect the peace and security not only on the Korean peninsula but in Asia and the rest of the world.
This situation prompts the DPRK to urge the U.S. to lift the unreasonable sanctions against it, stop pressure and aggressive moves against it and come out for the improvement of the relations with it.
But some quarters of the U.S. are floating misinformation that the DPRK is seeking food aid and the lifting of sanctions through the improvement of the relations. They had better properly know about their counterpart before talking about the DPRK-U.S. relations.
The sovereignty of the country is extremely vital to us.
We do not need any improvement of relations which may do harm to our nation's dignity and the sovereignty of our country.
It seems that some quarters of the U.S. regard the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations as a "gift" to us, but nothing is more impertinent than this contention.
They should bear in mind that if the U.S. expects any concession from us on account of the improvement of relations or tries to use it as a lever for putting pressure, it will make the situation more complicated and the U.S. will be held wholly responsible for the ensuing consequences. Those who are busy talking nonsense about the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations to please others, are well advised to come to their senses.
GIs' massacres under fire
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) on October 28 issued an "open letter on the truth of killings of innocent Koreans during the war that broke out on June 25" disclosing the massacres committed by the U.S. aggression troops and the "ROK" army, the Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said.
It made a detailed account of the shuddering killings of innocent civilians committed by U.S. troops and "ROK" army soldiers in Rogun-ri, Yongdong county of North Chungchong Province and other areas while fleeing to the areas south of the 38th parallel during the Korean War in 1950.
According to the open letter, GIs' massacre in Rogun-ri was followed by killing of hundreds of civilians, children, women and aged people in Chilgok and Koryong of North Kyongsang Province. They massacred civilians in Taedok county and Taejon city of South Chungchong Province from July 18 to 29, 1950.
The open letter continued:
U.S. brutes and "ROK" army man-hunters murdered 739 civilians in Chungju in one day of July 4 alone and 1,146 in Suwon, Kyonggi Province, from June 28 to July 4, 1950.
In July, 1950, the fleeing "Raju unit" disguised itself as people's army soldiers and killed innocent civilians in Haenam and Wando. The special service corps of Pusan brutally slew 4,832 innocent civilians in prison and buried them in different places or threw them into sea from early July to the end of September, 1950.
During their flight in 1950, the U.S. troops and the "ROK" army soldiers killed over 10,000 innocent people in Seoul, more than 600 in Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province, over 500 in Ansong, more than 400 in Anyang, over 30,000 in Chunchon, at least 2,000 in Chongju, North Chungchong Province, over 2,060 in Chungju city, more than 600 in Kongju, South Chungchong Province, at least 2,000 in Puyo, 158 in Jochiwon, 8,644 in Taejon, at least 4,000 in Jonju, North Jolla Province, over 400 in Kunsan and more than 3,000 in Kwangju.
The U.S. even called out fighter planes to indiscriminately bomb and strafe peaceable people to death.
The U.S. troops and "ROK" army killed many innocent civilians under the name of "punitive operation against communists" and "liquidation of those assisting rebels" in the areas south of the 38th parallel that came again under their control.
The massacre of civilians in Hamphyong, South Jolla Province was an example of their barbarities. The 5th company of the 11th division of the "ROK" army reduced the whole village of some 50 houses to ashes and killed all the aged people and women in less than 20 minutes on December 5, 1950, by the order of the American military adviser.
Similar atrocities were also committed in Sanchong and Hamyang counties, South Kyongsang Province.
On December 18, 1950, the "Kanghwa homeland defence commando" which was organized to "liquidate red" slew over 300 civilians in a little over two months. Countless is the number of those killed when the casualties are added to those murdered by the "commandos" which were active in each sub-county.
"Headquarters for searching the red" was cooked up in Seoul. It set up "check-points" in all streets to indiscriminately arrest and kill innocent people.
Even the evil "slave labour law" was enacted to arrest and imprison anyone whose relatives joined the volunteer corps or anyone who assisted the people's army even a bit. As many as 72,390 people were tortured to death.
The U.S. troops committed monstrous massacre everywhere by mobilizing several divisions allegedly to "ensure security in the rear."
As the up reported on September 15, 1951, over one million innocent people were killed in South Korea from June 25, 1950 to the summer of 1951.
The shuddering massacre perpetrated by the U.S. troops and "ROK" army in South Korea during the war which started on June 25, 1950 is the heinous crime unprecedented in history and the nation should force the murderers to pay for the blood shed by the Koreans.
Minju Joson on war exercise of u.s., Japan and S. Korea
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The U.S., the South Korean authorities and Japanese reactionaries are bound to meet merciless blows from the Korean people and the army, warns Minju Joson today in a signed commentary assailing the adventurous "Foal Eagle 99" war exercise started by the U.S. and South Korea on October 26 and the joint military drill launched by the U.S. and the Japanese reactionaries, timed to coincide with it.
The commentary says:
All those provocative war maneuvers are aimed at a surprise forestalling attack against the DPRK.
We cannot but take a serious note of them as they are a revelation of the unchangeable ambition of the U.S., Japan and the South Korean authorities to militarily stifle the DPRK at any cost.
Now that the U.S., Japan and the South Korean authorities continue staging military drills in a bid to invade the DPRK, we are compelled to steadily increase our military power to cope with them and maintain a high degree of revolutionary vigilance and full combat posture.
If the U.S., Japan and the South Korean authorities launch an aggression against the DPRK at the end of their ceaseless joint war rehearsals, the Korean people and army will deal merciless blows to them.
They are well advised not to misjudge the repeated warnings of the DPRK but to stop the aggressive war exercises at once.
Grand Chollima march under guidance of Kim Jong Il
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The on-going second grand Chollima march is bringing about a turning point in all fields of the national economy in Korea.
Over one hundred achievements made in scientific researches such as the method of making iron by oxygen blowing have been introduced into production to pay off profusely. Thus ands of minor power stations made their appearance to increase the electricity production and great successes have been made in the fields of mining, metal and machine industries.
An underground coal gas industry has been built in the Anju coal field, the nation's leading coal producer, and a salt industry created in the bay of east Korea. Meanwhile, a Myongdang fire brick production process has been established at the Sangwon Cement Complex to effect a great innovation in the fireproof materials industry and the cement industry.
These spectacular successes are a brilliant fruition of the experienced and tested leadership of the great Kim Jong Il.
Until last year, the nation's economy as a whole could not operate on a normal footing because the channel of purchasing materials from abroad was blocked due the economic sanctions of the imperialists and several years of natural disasters and there was an acute shortage of electricity, materials and raw materials.
At this hard time, Kim Jong Il stood in the van to tide over all difficulties lying in the way of the revolution.
During his visit to Jagang Province in Panuary last year, he was convinced that there is nothing insurmountable if one is determined to carry out the tasks given by the party, while noticing the fighting spirit of the people in the province to devotedly implement them by tightening their belts under whatever difficult situation.
Then he went among the workers of the Songjin Steel Works.
He appealed to them, who supported the party through increased steel production in every difficult time, to take the lead again in effecting a great upsurge.
He visited the nation's important economic areas one after another including Huichon, Manpho, Taehongdan, Tokchon and north Hamgyong, Kangwon and north Phyongan provinces. Everywhere he went, he taught the officials and workers concrete ways of industrial management. He told them to take an optimistic view of the reality and undertake all work in a bold and big way in reliance upon enormous production potentials, attach importance to science, update technology and ensure real benefits through the improvement of economic methods.
His energetic on-the-spot guidance greatly inspired all the people and brought about fresh miracles and feats an all fronts of the socialist economic construction.
Korea will witness the appearance of a powerful and prosperous nation before long thanks to the second grand chollima march, now in full gear, demonstrating the might of the single-hearted unity between the leader and people.
70th anniversary of Kwangju student incident observed
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- A meeting of Pyongyang youth and students took place today to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Kwangju student incident.
The incident, a massive anti-Japanese patriotic resistance, broke out on November 3, 1929, when Japanese students teased a Korean girl student and made insulting remarks to the latter on a Kwangju-Raju train late in October that year.
The anti-Japanese struggle launched by the Kwangju students under the slogan of down-with-Japanese imperialism rapidly spread to different parts of the country like wildfire and lasted for six months till April next year.
First secretary of the c.c., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth league Ri Il Hwan in his report said that the incident was an anti-outside force national salvation struggle of the Korean youth and students who rose up in the struggle against the harsh colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists, intolerable national contempt and colonial enslavement education, and a massive anti-Japanese patriotic resistance for the independence of the country and the sovereignty of the nation.
70 years have passed since the incident, but the desire of the resistance fighters has not been realized in South Korea, the reporter said, and went on:
The U.S. who occupied South Korea in place of the Japanese imperialists are laying obstacles in the way of national unity and the reunification of the country, inflicting immeasurable misfortunes and sufferings upon the South Korean people for more than 50 years.
Referring to the recent disclosure of the massacres committed by GIs throughout South Korea during the Korean War, he denounced them as an unpardonable criminal act.
He further said:
The U.S. forces present in South Korea are unhesitatingly committing murder, lording it over. This is chiefly because the South Korean authorities are serving and protecting their master from a sycophantic stand of toeing the United States.
In order to put an end to the tragic history of the nation's division and gain the sovereignty of the nation it is necessary, first of all, to get the U.S. aggression forces withdrawn from South Korea.
The Japanese reactionaries must ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by their anti-DPRK moves for war and confrontation, renounce the hostile policy toward the DPRK and act with discretion.
The South Korean students and people should wage a more vigorous struggle to shatter the war moves of the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries and the South Korean authorities subservient to them to ignite a war on the Korean peninsula and thus achieve durable peace and security of the country.
Present at the meeting were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the C.C., the Worker's Party of Korea, and others.

Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the International League of Women for Peace and Freedom headed by president Bruna Nota arrived here today.
It was welcomed by Chon Yon Ok, chairwoman of the central committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union at the airport.
