Meeting of scholars from north, south and overseas for reunification
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- A meeting of scholars from the north, south and overseas for reunification was held in Beijing from Oct. 26 to 27.
The meeting discussed the issues of invariably upholding the three principles of national reunification which were agreed upon between the north and south and declared at home and abroad, turning the north-south relations of distrust and confrontation into those of true reconciliation and confidence and achieving peace and peaceful reunification of the country through great national unity.
The participants pointed out that it is a tragedy for the compatriots to greet a new millennium without putting an end to the painful national division forced upon them by outside forces in the middle of the present century and shared the view that national reunification is the most urgent historical cause.
Delegates from the north in their presentation papers and speeches referred to the basic principle and stand which must serve as guidelines in carrying out the national reunification cause, priorities for national reunification, the significance of great national unity at present and tasks for its realization.
They, on the basis of the Juche-oriented view on the historical background against which the problem of the country's reunification was raised and its root cause and the core and nature of the reunification issue, stressed that the country must be reunified according to the three-point charter of national reunification, that is the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point program of great national unity of the whole nation and the proposal on founding the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo and that the charter is a true common grand program of the nation for reunification.
The South Korean delegates and overseas scholars agreed with the view that the country must be reunified according to the three principles of national reunification and the principles must serve as an invariable common grand program of the nation for reunification.

Reunification cause of Korean people supported
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- The month for supporting the proposal of founding the Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo came to a close with due ceremony in Havana Province, Cuba, on November 5.

Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- "Aerial flight on iron bar" presented by the Pyongyang Circus placed first and was awarded "golden lion prize," the highest prize of the festival, at the 7th Wuqiao International Acrobatic Festival held in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China.
This acrobatic piece was highly praised at the festival for breaking a new ground in aerial acrobatics with refined and flawless skill.
"Golden lion prize" went also to "pilots" which the circus performed on invitation, and the special prize to the interlude "bitter experience."
The chairman of the festival jury and acrobatic experts of various other countries praised the "aerial flight on iron bar" as a new type of aerial acrobatics which not only demonstrated the world's highest level of skill but broke the stereotyped pattern of aerial acrobatics. The DPRK is poised to take a top place in the creation of acrobatics in the 21st century, they added.
Movement to follow examples of heroes
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- A movement to follow the examples of the heroes of the times is in full gear in Korea.
Jong Song Ok, athlete of the Amnokgang Sports Group, is a praiseworthy daughter of the nation who demonstrated to the whole world the spirit and dignity of Korea by coming first at the women's marathon race of the 7th World Athletics Championships .
Ri Ung Chan, forester of the Forest Management Station, Kangdong county, Pyongyang, has planted more than 7,100,000 trees and taken care of them in the forest covering some 1,600 hectares over the last 20 years.
Pak Ok Hui, chairwoman of the township cooperative farm, Janggang county, Jagang Province, increased the grain output every year and created such a miracle as realizing treble cropping a year in the northern mountainous area. She has held the post for the last more than 30 years.
Kim Yu Bong, collier of the February 8 Jikdong Youth United Coal Mine, Hyon Yong Ra, researcher of the nonferrous metal research institute of the National Academy of Sciences, and Ho Yong Gu, chief of a power station construction corps of the Taehongdan county integrated farm in Ryanggang Province, have rendered distinguished services at their posts for the building of a powerful nation.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il saw to it that they were awarded the titles of hero of labour or republic and called on the people to learn from the models of the times.
Mass media including Rodong Sinmun, organ of the Worker's Party of Korea, devote every day special write-ups to introducing the heroes and heroines.
A large number of literary and art works depicting them such as poems and songs are being created.
Officials and working people from all walks of life are renewing their determination to devote themselves to the development and prosperity of the country with an absolute worship for the leader and in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and the do-or-die spirit like the heroes.
The meeting of frontrankers of the second grand Chollima march held in Pyongyang recently gave further momentum to the nationwide heroic drive.
The Korean people have a glorious history of building a powerful socialist country, independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in defence by working epoch-making miracles through the chollima march in the 1950s when they were hard pressed for everything.
They are dashing ahead to build a powerful nation, firmly confident of victory, with the same vim and vigor with which they effected chollima upsurge.
Repatriation of unconverted long-term prisoners demanded
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- Organizations of different countries have demanded the repatriation of unconverted long-term prisoners in South Korea.
The unconverted long-term prisoners are prisoners of war who fought against the U.S. and their stooges during the last Korean War.
The Center of Indian Trade Unions in its statement issued on November 5 said that they are now wandering the streets without any shelter, though they were released in 1989 after scores of years of imprisonment life in South Korea.
The unconverted long-term prisoners including old Kim In So and Ham Se Hwan are strongly demanding their repatriation to the DPRK in which their families are living. But the South Korean authorities do not allow the repatriation for the mere reason that they have refused to be "converted."
This is a serious violation of the Geneva Convention and the international law, the statement said.
The Guyanese Committee for Support to Korea's Reunification in its statement said it is a crime and shame of the world that the problem of the unconverted long-term prisoners has not yet been solved.
The unconverted long-term prisoners must be sent back to the DPRK, their homeland, the statement strongly held, and said:
We extend the firm solidarity to the invariable confidence and will of the unconverted long-term prisoners and will fully support their just struggle.
Japan's moves for overseas aggression assailed
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary describes the first drill for an "operation for rescuing" Japanese overseas in "emergencies in the surrounding areas" staged by the Japanese Maritime "Self-Defense Force" on Nov. 7 as one intended to take part in a second Korean war.
The Japanese reactionaries seek to send their aggression forces to the Korean peninsula on the pretext of "rescuing" Japanese in South Korea in an "emergency" on the peninsula, the commentary says, and goes on:
The Japanese Prime Minister who is commander-in-chief of the militarist forces is invested with the right to command the "operation for rescuing" Japanese. This is an indication that he will hurl three services of the "SDF" into the Korean front on the plea of "rescuing" Japanese.
The drill of the "operation to rescue" Japanese overseas staged by the Japanese maritime "SDF" in the wake of working out the "programme for rescuing noncombatant forces" in an "emergency" on the Korean peninsula proves that the Japanese militarists' scenario for reinvasion of Korea has been put into more concrete shape and has gone over to a practical phase.
The Japanese reactionaries, obsessed with their wild ambition for reinvasion of Korea, are digging up their own graves without discretion.
If they reinvade Korea on the pretext of "rescuing" Japanese overseas, it will lead them to self-destruction.
GIs' massacre in Masan disclosed
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- A massacre committed by the U.S. aggression troops in Kokan-ri of Masan in August 1950 was recently disclosed by the November issue of the South Korean magazine "Mal."
The magazine said:
More than 100 people whose family name was Ri had taken shelter all together in a house meant for sacrificial rite at the foot of a mountain behind Kokan-ri village from early August.
Just one day before the massacre, a GI appeared there with an interpreter and went back after learning that there were only civilians, most of them children, women and aged people.
The following day GIs opened fire at the civilians just 30 metres from the house, showered mortar barrage upon them and mobilized even planes to strafe them, thus killing 83 of them. Maj. Gen. William Kinn, the then commander of the U.S. 25th division, issued an order for the massacre.
On July 26, 1950 just before the massacre he ordered his units to consider all the civilians in the operation theatre as the enemy and take a relevant measure that meant indiscriminate killings.
Ri Man Sun, chairman of the "Measure Committee of Bereaved Families of the Civilians Killed in Kokan-ri" which was recently formed, asserted that with nothing can the U.S. justify such crime as opening fire at a woman in white clothes who was taking shelter with a baby on her back.
On Oct. 7 this year families of the victims and other people held an anti-U.S. meeting before the barracks of a unit of the U.S. aggression forces in Jinhae to bitterly condemn GIs' atrocities and strongly demand compensation.
Document recording crimes committed by Kim Dae Jung regime
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea made public a document disclosing the true colors of the South Korean ruling quarters as flunkeyists and traitors on Nov. 2, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation reported.
It termed the present Kim Dae Jung regime as a pro-Japanese flunkeyist and traitorous one which serves as a watch dog of Japan.
It said:
At the "inaugural ceremony" held in February last year, Kim Dae Jung began his "courtesy function" with meeting former Japanese prime minister Nakasone who attended there. On Oct. 23 Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jong Pil invited Japanese Prime Minister Obuchi to Jeju Island and agreed with him on realizing Akihito's South Korean visit sooner or later.
The Kim Dae Jung regime has stood by the Japanese authorities who are trying to evade the liquidation of the past and taken pains to hide the truth about their crimes.
It does not hesitate to praise and encourage the moves of the Japanese reactionaries for the revival of militarism and reinvasion.
In October last year Kim Dae Jung was unsparing in his praises of the revival of Japanese militarism, asserting Japan's contribution after the war must be recognized and its positive aspect be appreciated.
Kim Jong Pil unhesitatingly let loose outbursts encouraging Japan's wild ambition for overseas expansion, saying that Japan must lead Asia while Hong Sun Yong, "Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade," said he was of the view that Japan is fully qualified to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The Kim Dae Jung regime sold off national interests to its master Japan.
It traded off golden fishing grounds in the east and south seas of Korea to Japan under the traitorous "South Korea-Japan fisheries agreement" and flung open the door of South Korean market to Japanese monopoly capital through the total abrogation of the "system of diversified import channel."
It assured Japan of "opening South Korea to Japanese popular culture" and enforcing "the use of Chinese characters and other foreign languages along with the Korean language." It also set the year 2002 as a "year of exchange between the South Korean and Japanese peoples" and decided to set out on the full-scale "exchange of tourism and culture."
The document also lays bare pro-U.S. treacheries of the "people's government."
Kim Dae Jung made his first official visit to the white house after becoming master of "Chongwadae" in June last year. During his junket he asked the U.S. to help him in making achievements while he is in the "presidential office."
His regime has always implored for the permanent presence of the U.S. troops in South Korea. During his U.S. visit in June last year, he said the presence of 100,000 strong U.S. forces in northeast Asia must be continued as it is very important for meeting the interests of the U.S., adding the U.S. troops must stay in South Korea even after the reunification of the Korean peninsula.
He did not bother to unveil even a plan to revise the "South Korea-U.S. mutual defence treaty" in a bid to secure a "legal ground" for the "permanent presence" of the U.S. forces in South Korea.
And as the truth of massacres committed by GIs during the Korean War has begun to be disclosed, he is trying hard to hush them up, saying "there is no clear evidence."
The Kim Dae Jung regime put South Korea under the mandate of the U.S.-led International Monetary Fund and gave the green light to the unprecedented sale of South Korea to outsiders.
Because of the policy of selling South Korea, it has become ill-famed for the most serious business bankruptcy and unemployment, biggest debts and taxes, the largest number of criminals, vagrants and suicides in the world.
Kim Dae Jung has gone the length of bringing to Seoul for burial the remains of Underwood who, under the mask of missionary, spread the ideas of worshipping, kowtowing to, fearing and submitting to the U.S. and conducted espionage in Korea and praising his "achievements."
The document disclosed the Kim Dae Jung regime's anti-national "cooperation" with outsiders.
The Kim Dae Jung regime has been hell bent on war moves against the north to stifle it through the "cooperation" with the U.S. and Japanese aggression forces.
The "South Korea-U.S. summit," "South Korea-Japan summit" and the "South Korea, the U.S. and Japan summit" held last year and this year were designed to establish a system of close military cooperation with its masters the U.S. and Japan to stifle the north on the pretext of "its missile development."
The Kim Dae Jung regime is acting a shock brigade in the criminal moves of the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries to put into full operation the "U.S., Japan and South Korea tripartite military alliance," the chariot to carry out the "operation plan 5027-98."
This is clearly evidenced by "Foal Eagle" joint military exercise and South Korea-Japan joint maritime exercise held last year and a joint search and rescue exercise of warships of the South Korean and Japanese naval forces, the South Korea-U.S. joint military drill, "Ulji focus lens 99" and "Foal Eagle 99" war maneuvers staged this year.
This regime has made desperate efforts to stifle the north through military pressure and imposition of "opening" upon it under the "system of cooperation" with the U.S. and Japan.
The present chief executive said that "the engagement policy of the U.S., the sunshine policy of South Korea, is effective for leading the north to open its doors" and "it is proved by the changes that took place in the former soviet union and other east European countries."
The history of the nation will certainly make the Kim Dae Jung regime, the group of the worst pro-Japanese, pro-American flunkeyists and traitors, pay for its crimes and mete out a stern judgement to it, the document warns.
