Jail sentences on pro-reunification champions flayed

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities sentenced to prison terms the representatives of the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, the National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils for participating in the '99 Grand Pro-reunification Festival and the 10th Pan-national Rally.
Minju Joson today in a signed commentary assails this hideous step as an unpardonable anti-reunification, anti-national fascist action to dampen the desire of the fellow countrymen for national reconciliation, unity and reunification and block the road of reunification.
The visit of pro-reunification envoys to Pyongyang and their participation in pro-reunification events were aimed to realize a meeting of the three parties of Koreans in the north, south and overseas, so as to share sufferings resulting from the division and pool their strength and will and seek ways of achieving reunification, the commentary notes, and goes on: They are by no means offenders and there is no reason to punish them.
The legal action taken against the pro-reunification patriots indicates that the South Korean authorities' talk about "reconciliation" and "cooperation" is nothing but a deceptive jargon and it is aimed at quelling the desire for reunification growing stronger among people as days go by and inciting confrontation with the north.
The South Korean rulers should immediately stop fascist actions to punish the pro-reunification patriots and release without delay those illegally detained patriotic people.

GIs' criminal atrocities condemned

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- The truth about U.S.'s massacres of civilians in Rogun-ri, Yongdong county, North Chungchong Province, and Masan, Changnyong and Sachon of South Kyongsang Province, and Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province, and other areas in South Korea during the last Korean War has been fully disclosed recently by documents preserved at the U.S. national archives and the declassified documents of the U.S. military and testimonies made by ex-soldiers of the U.S. aggression troops who participated in the war, and South Korean victims and eyewitnesses. This has touched off indignation of the Korean people and human conscience.
The investigation committee of the democratic front for the reunification of the fatherland, which was organized at the outset of the Fatherland Liberation War to investigate and record GIs' criminal atrocities, issued indictment no. 1 on February 19 to inform the world of part of those crimes investigated and confirmed over the last 50 years.
The indictment deals with the massacres committed by the U.S. from June 25 to early August, 1950.
The indictment cites dates and places, etc, to accuse the U.S. aggressors of killing many peaceable civilians, destroying or reducing to ashes houses and properties and leveling to the ground great many schools, hospitals and theatres and other cultural establishments and peaceful industrial facilities in the northern half of the DPRK by indiscriminate bombing and bombardment from the first day of the Korean War.
    The indictment says:
In the period from June 25, 1950 when the Korean War broke out to early August of the same year the U.S. aggressors killed over 10,730 peaceable civilians, destroyed or reduced to ashes 14,119 houses and razed to the ground more than 100 cultural establishments and peaceful industrial factories in the North Korea.
All these facts go to clearly prove that the brutal massacres and indiscriminate destruction committed by the U.S. in the past Korean War are the indelible crimes against humanity and they are ogres in human skin and chieftains of aggression, plunder and destruction and the sworn enemy of the Korean people.
We will surely make the U.S. aggressors pay for the criminal atrocities committed during the Korean War in order to protect the dignity of the nation.
