GI murderer runs away

Pyongyang May 1 (KCNA) -- McCarthy, a corporal of the 8th U.S. Army who killed a South Korean woman in cold blood at a pub for the exclusive use of the U.S. troops in Seoul on February 19, reportedly ran away while waiting for a trial on April 28.
The scheduled trial could not be held as he deserted from the Ryongsan base where he had been transferred from the prison of a U.S. military base.
The South Korean authorities failed to bring the murderer to a formal trial as he had been transferred to the U.S. military side.

May Day marked and rallies for general strike held

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held ceremonies and rallies for a general strike in nine areas across South Korea including Seoul on April 29 with the attendance of workers, peasants, students and other people, more than 20,000 in all, on the occasion of the 110th May Day, the international holiday of the workers the world over, reports from Seoul said.
A ceremony and a rally took place at the Seoul railway station plaza that day, participated in by at least 15,000 workers, peasants and students under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils.
At the rally they demanded a 15.2 percent wage hike, stop to sale of motor industry overseas and reduction of working hours.
At the end of the rally its participants staged a demonstration, displaying the might of their unity.
Over 2,500 students, who were demonstrating with workers, stubbornly resisted riot police, pelting stones at them. At least 10,000 workers joined them in the resistance.

U.S. wild ambition of military domination blasted

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary assails a report recently released by the U.S. National Security Council.
    It says:
The report underscored the needs for the U.S. to "keep some of its forces for security in east Asia in case of Korea's reunification" and make them "capable of performing a more extensive mission," including nuclear capability.
This betrays the U.S. plan to contain the whole of Korea by force of arms and use it as a springboard from which to realise its wild ambition of world domination.
This U.S. assertion is nothing but a ruse intended to pursue its policy of aggression under the signboard of "security," the commentary says, and goes on:
It is a strategic design of the U.S. to use the Korean peninsula as a military foothold from which to realise its Asian strategy. Hence, the U.S. refuses to withdraw its forces from South Korea and invariably seeks to establish its military domination over Korea.
Its call for enabling its forces stationed in South Korea to perform a more extensive mission, including nuclear capability for the "security", is aimed at rounding off its capabilities to invade the DPRK, its neighboring countries and other Asian countries.
The U.S. policy of aggression toward the DPRK has not changed even a bit but is getting more pronounced.
The U.S. loudmouthed "security" is no more than a slogan under which to militarily intervene in and invade the DPRK and other Asian countries.
The DPRK is compelled to heighten vigilance against it.
The U.S. is well advised to drop its absurd intention to launch a Korean War of aggression and withdraw its forces from South Korea without delay.

May Day observed

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate editorials to the 110th May Day, the international holiday of the workers the world over.
The editorials call for fully demonstrating the indomitable stamina of the Korean working class in the building of a powerful nation.
An editorial of Rodong Sinmun says the Korean working class has successfully discharged its sacred mission and duty as the leading class of revolution, the vanguard, in the whole historic course of carrying out the socialist cause.
The Korean working class has covered a proud path along which it has firmly defended the Worker's Party of Korea and the cause of socialism, cherishing absolute worship for its leader, and adorned its course with creation and feats by successfully fulfilling its mission as the vanguard in the socialist construction, the editorial notes, and goes on:
Today it is demonstrating its might as a hardcore contingent in the building of a powerful nation.
Thanks to its total dedication and heroic struggle, grim ordeals caused by the imperialists' isolation and suffocation moves and natural calamities have been tided over and a solid springboard has been laid for building a powerful nation.
No force on earth can block the vigorous advance of the Korean working class to put into practice the respected Kim Jong Il's intention to build a powerful nation.
It is entirely thanks to the wise guidance of the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il that the Korean working class has been able to perform immortal feats on behalf of the country and the revolution as the vanguard in firmly defending the cause of socialism and dynamically advancing it.
Kim Jong Il's ceaseless and energetic on-the-spot guidance to many factories and enterprises across the country, including Jagang and north Phyongan provinces, is powerfully encouraging the Korean workers and other people in a new grand chollima advance.
All the workers should play the role of fortress and shield in devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution led by Kim Jong Il and become pacesetters in the second grand chollima advance working miracles, following the torch lit by the workers of the Rakwon machine factory.
All the party members and other people should firmly adhere to the working-class principle and the anti-imperialist independent stand.
It is the invariable stand of the WPK to strengthen unity, solidarity and cooperation with the progressives, including the workers the world over, on the principle of independence, peace and friendship.
The Korean working class will in the future, too, positively support the workers around the world in their struggle for socialism and justice and discharge its class mission and duty.
