U.S. decision to resume strafing drill in S. Korea denounced
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- The U.S. decided to resume the strafing drill in the bombing ground in Maehyang-ri, Hwasong county, Kyonggi Province, from June 19, according to a radio report from Seoul. It was suspended for the time being in face of the strong protest from South Korean people from all walks of life.
This decision is a challenge to the South Korean people as it chills their daily mounting desire for reunification.
In order to justify this criminal step the U.S. instigated the authorities of the South Korean "Ministry of National Defence" to assert that the U.S. military and the South Korean military have agreed to resume the drill as the suspension of the drill "seriously affects the combat readiness" of the U.S. forces in South Korea.
Russian Minister of National Defence refutes U.S. Sophism
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- Igor Sergeyev, Minister of National Defence of Russia, at the talks with the U.S. Secretary of Defense held in Moscow on June 13 categorically rejected the call of the U.S. side for establishing the "National Missile Defence" system (NMD) under the absurd pretext of "nuclear danger" from the DPRK, according to a news report.
He said that Russia did not believe the "rumour about nuclear danger" of the DPRK spread by the United States.
The U.S. loudmouthed "rumour about nuclear danger" of the DPRK cannot be a pretext for the modification of the "ABM" treaty, he added.
This "rumour" is nothing but a pretext hard to believe, he stressed, strongly refuting the U.S. side's assertion about the modification of the "ABM" treaty and establishment of the "NMD".
Anniversary of Laos Korea Friendship Association marked
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- A friendship meeting was held at the DPRK embassy in Vientiane on June 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Laos Korea Friendship Association.
Bounpone Bouttanavong, first secretary of the c.c., the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union who is also chairman of the association in his speech said that over the last decade it has striven to steadily strengthen and develop the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
These friendly relations are a precious legacy provided by the great leader Kim Il Sung and Kaysone Phomvihane, he noted.
The association, he said, will make every possible effort to further the friendly relations between the two countries in the future, too, which is the intention and requirement of the Lao party and government.
The Lao people are sincerely rejoiced over the achievements made by the Korean people in socialist construction under the wise leadership of the great Kim Jong Il and highly appreciate them, he said, adding Korea is sure to be reunified under his wise guidance.
He declared that the Lao people would positively support and encourage the Korean people in their just cause of national reunification in the future, too.
Abolition of S. Korean "Security Law" called for
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- The "Democratic Worker's Party" of South Korea in a commentary on June 16 reportedly called for the repeal of the "'Security Law' violating people's thought and freedom".
The party made this call, asserting that many figures of conscience have fallen victim to the "SL" which defines the north as an "anti-state organization".
There still exist in South Korea political parties which insist on maintaining the "SL", it said, urging them to abandon the anachronistic attitude at an early date and swim with the great trend towards peaceful reunification.
Struggle against modern imperialism called for
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article calls on the world people to escalate the anti-imperialist struggle, deeply aware of the crafty and despicable colors of modern imperialism.
The daily says:
General Secretary Kim Jong Il likened modern imperialism to an old wolf, thus bringing into bolder relief its true colors.
By nature modern imperialism is as cunning as a wolf.
Disclosing its crafty and despicable nature, the article says it finds its manifestation, above all, in that modern imperialism is behaving hypocritically, while more zealously resorting to double-dealing tactics.
Modern imperialists are pursuing their policy of aggression and war more craftily under the guise of "peace champion" and "guardian of liberty", the article notes, and goes on:
Whenever opportunity presents itself, the United States clamors about "peace", "disarmament" and "detente", but it has an axe to grind.
Its loudmouthed "peace", in fact, means a ballad of war and its talk about "disarmament" and "detente" respectively means arms buildup and tensions.
The U.S. imperialists pretend to be interested in peace and detente on the Korean peninsula. However, all their acts only result in increasing the danger of war and escalating the tensions on the Korean peninsula.
The crafty and base nature of modern imperialism also finds its expression in the fact that it is taking a high-handed and outrageous approach toward small and weak countries and resorts to open armed invasion of them and interference in their internal affairs, while trying hard not to worsen the relations with big countries as far as possible.
This is evidenced by the fact that the U.S.-led NATO carried out military aggression on Yugoslavia under the cloak of "humanitarian protection" and is going ahead with air raids on Iraq under the pretext of "non-compliance with inspection of arms".
The vicious and crafty aggressive nature of modern imperialism is manifested in the fact that it is working hard to intensify its domination and plunder of other countries and attain its aggressive aim in such a more concealed and crafty manner as ideological and cultural poisoning under the signboard of "globalization".
The world people should never allow themselves to be fooled by this art of disguise of imperialists but put up a more vigorous struggle against them. Only by doing so can they protect their destiny and the dignity and sovereignty of their countries and nations and save humankind from the tentacles of imperialism.
