Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit no. 324

   Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected unit no. 324 of the Korean People's Army yesterday.
    He went round the June 20 power station which was built by the unit by its own efforts.
    After hearing an explanation by the commander of the unit, he looked round the generator room, the power distribution room and other places to learn about the construction of the power station and the production and use of electricity.
    He called for making an effective use of the produced electricity so as to provide soldiers with better living conditions.
    He inspected a company under the direct control of the unit.
    Going round the education room, ordinance science room and other places, he said that an effective revolutionary education and class education should be conducted among young servicepersons to suit their specific features so that all of them might be trained as excellent revolutionaries and ideologically strong soldiers.
    He gave servicepersons of the company a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle as gifts and posed for a photograph with them.
    On the same day he inspected a battery under the control of the unit.
    He went round the monument to the on-site guidance of the President Kim Il Sung and relics associated with his revolutionary history.
    He saw the company servicepersons under training in fire arms.
    Then he was informed of the supply service by the commanding officers of the company and went round entertainment and logistic facilities.
    He told them to keep in full bloom the traditional traits of the unity between officers and men and between superiors and subordinates, based on the revolutionary comradeship, a feature peculiar to the KPA.
    He presented a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle to the servicepersons of the company and posed for a photograph with them.
    He was accompanied by generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and other general officers of the KPA.


Kim Yong Nam receives credentials

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, received credentials from David Taylor Irvine, newly appointed Australian ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
    Present there was Pak Kil Yon, vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.
    Kim Yong Nam had a talk with the ambassador.

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Paek Nam Sun, Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, today met and had a talk with David Taylor Irvine, newly appointed Australian ambassador to the DPRK who paid a courtesy call on him.


Art works on national tradition created

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea puts a premium on the creation and performance of art works on the excellent national tradition.
    National art organisations are busy creating a large number of folk dances and circus acts that have adapted dancing movements, tunes and melodies handed down from the time of our ancestors to the aesthetic tastes of the times.
    The State National Art Troupe put on the stage folk dance suite, folk dance pieces and folk songs and dances.
    The pleasant rhythms and tunes of folk dance suite "people in the walled Pyongyang" fully reflect the resourcefulness and spirit of the nation and warm love of the country.
    The Mansudae Art Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe created a series of folk dances of peculiar style.
    The Pyongyang Circus created and put on the stage at least ten national circus acts, including magic "tricks of a hierophant" and "masque."
    Provincial art troupes created and put on the stage works of various themes, including "ballad of Mt. Singo," a folk dance with strong local identity.


Immortal exploits performed in human cause of independence

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- July 8 will commemorate the 6th anniversary of the passing away of the President Kim Il Sung.
    On this day, committees for remembering President Kim Il Sung were organized and colorful functions to praise his leadership, traits and exploits such as photo exhibitions and seminars are going on in many countries around the world.
    It is an expression of the world progressives' high tribute to the President's immortal exploits performed for the human cause of independence.
    Kim Il Sung founded the Juche idea, the first of its kind in history, reflecting the need of the times and the aspiration and desire of humankind, thus opening a new era in which the popular masses appeared as a master of the world to carve out their destiny independently.
    He authored many works including "On the Korean People's Struggle to Apply the Juche Idea," "The Peoples of the Third World Advancing Under the Uplifted Banner of Independence Will Certainly Win Their Revolutionary Cause," "For the Development of the Non-Aligned Movement" and "Let Us Develop South-South Cooperation." This represented his immortal contribution to the development of human thoughts and theories.
    His immortal famous works powerfully inspire the world revolutionary people in their struggle as they serve "as a guideline for the realization of the cause of independence of the popular masses" and a "true textbook for revolution and construction."
    The President also left ineffaceable marks in Asia, Europe and Africa in his efforts to make the whole world independent.
    The President covered more than 522,440 km on 54 foreign trips to visit 87 countries from the period of building a new country to the last period of his life.
    He met more than 70,000 figures of all social standings including foreign party and state leaders, political and social personages from various countries.
    He also put forward the slogan "Let us unite with the world people advocating independence," saying the world people advocating independence should unite closely to accomplish the cause of independence of the popular masses.
    That is why progressive humankind is highly praising Kim Il Sung as a peerlessly great man and a great sun of humankind for the great exploits he performed on behalf of times, history and humankind through his energetic ideological and theoretical activities and revolutionary practice.


Kim Il Sung's lifelong desire

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- National reunification was the lifelong desire of the President Kim Il Sung, says Rodong Sinmun today in an article.
    Reunification was always uppermost in the President's mind and words. He was preoccupied all the time with the noble mission to achieve reunification when meeting with overseas compatriots and foreigners, giving on-the-spot guidance and discussing state affairs at conferences, the article says, and goes on:
    He met the south side delegate to the inter-Korean high-level political talks held on May 3, 1972 and laid down the three principles--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity-- which he had brought to maturity from long back and saw to it that the July 4 joint statement was proclaimed as a program for reunification common to the nation.
    He set forth the policy of reunifying the country by federal formula based on the conception of one nation, one state, two systems and two governments, in accordance with the three principles of national reunification and advanced, at the same time, the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, its embodiment.
    In order to pave the way for national reunification by internal forces of the nation, he personally authored and published the "10-point program of great national unity for national reunification and roused the whole nation to a struggle to realise it.
    By putting forward the three-point charter of national reunification the President provided the nation with a treasured sword for confidently accomplishing the cause of national reunification. He breathed his last in his office after signing an important document on the issue of national reunification, the last one in his lifetime.
    It is the ardent desire of all the fellow countrymen and the supreme task of our nation to achieve the cause of national reunification without delay on the firm basis laid by him.
    It is the unshakable will and determination of the respected leader Kim Jong Il to carry to completion the cause of national reunification started and led by the President in our generation.
    The cause of national reunification is sure to be accomplished as there are a solid foundation provided by the President and the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il who is working hard to carry out the instructions of the President for reunification.


Anniversary of passing away of Kim Il Sung commemorated

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Meetings to remember the President Kim Il Sung took place in Uganda, Malta, Finland, Austria and the Czech Republic on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of his passing away from June 24 to 30.
    Speakers at the meetings said that he was the great father of the Korean people who liberated the country from the Japanese imperialists' military occupation and built people-centered socialism.
    He was a distinguished leader of the 20th century, a great politician and a popular leader with matchless wisdom, outstanding leadership ability and noble traits, they said, and went on:
    He devoted all his life to Korea's reunification and a happy life of the people and the immortal feats performed by him for the Korean and world revolutions will always be remembered by the world progressive people.
    They expressed belief that under the wise guidance of the great leader Kim Jong Il, the Korean people would certainly reunify the country and build a powerful nation in Korea to fulfil the behest of President Kim Il Sung.
    Letters to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the meetings in Austria and Finland.


Association for earlier opening of Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations inaugurated

    Tokyo, July 4 (KNS-KCNA) -- A Japanese people's association for earlier opening of Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations was inaugurated in Tokyo on July 3.
    Tomiichi Murayama, former Japanese Prime Minister, was elected chairman of the association.
    A meeting was held to celebrate the inauguration on the same day.
    Tomiichi Murayama in his speech said that Japan should more actively pursue negotiations with the DPRK.
    The meeting heard a lecture titled "Japan-DPRK relations as seen by international community," and so on, and adopted a declaration.
    The declaration described Japan's failure to liquidate its past and open diplomatic relations with the DPRK as something abnormal. For Japan to establish diplomatic relations with the DPRK after settling its past on the basis of its repentance and apology is important for opening new cooperative relations with its neighboring countries, it added.
    The declaration pointed out that for the success of the Japan-DPRK talks the association would conduct a popular discussion and collect intellectuals' opinion and recommend their results to the government.


Juche Idea Institute of Bangladesh inaugurated

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The Juche Idea Institute of Bangladesh was inaugurated in Dhaka on June 28.
    Khan Lano, acting general secretary of the central committee of the Labour Party of Bangladesh, addressing the inaugural meeting, said that the Juche idea created by the President Kim Il Sung and carried forward and developed by General Secretary Kim Jong Il is the great idea of the era of independence when popular masses are masters of history.
    He stressed that Kim Jong Il is the great defender of the cause of independence who, upholding the banner of immortal Juche idea, is leading the cause of socialism and Juche to victory, while smashing the imperialist reactionary forces' moves to isolate and stifle the man-centered socialism of Korean style built by Kim Il Sung.
    The Juche idea is the great banner which indicates a true life and way of struggle to the world progressive people as well as the Bangladeshi people who is building socialism and a new society, he said.
    Khan Lano was elected director of the institute.
    The meeting discussed and decided an action program of the institute, nation-wide study and dissemination of the Juche idea and ways to put it into practice.
    A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.


Remember-Kim Il Sung committees formed

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Committees for remembering the President Kim Il Sung were inaugurated in Poland, Pakistan and Indonesia.
    Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, chairman of the Soekarno Foundation for Education, the information secretary of the c.c. of the Pakistan People's Party and the first vice-chairman of the c.c. of the Poland-Korea Friendship Association were elected chairmen of the committees.
    At the inaugural meetings, it was decided to organize colorful events including symposiums on feats of the President and film shows on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of his passing away.
