U.S. move to go ahead with "NMD" system
Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary assails the United States for intending to continue the anti-ballistic missile test for establishing the "National Missile Defense" system (NMD) despite its recent failure in its third test.
The commentary says:
The United States claims that its "NMD" is for protecting its "security" from a "threat" from the DPRK. This, however, is a sheer lie.
The United States is the world's biggest possessor of missiles and nuclear power. The U.S. move to establish the "NMD" is prompted by its aim to have military supremacy over the world. Its main target is big powers around the Korean peninsula. But, the "ABM treaty" is a stumbling block in carrying out its "NMD" plan.
That is why the U.S. seeks to modify the "ABM treaty" under the pretext of a "missile threat" from the DPRK and establish an unlimited "missile defense" system at any cost.
By doing so it wants to contain those big powers around the Korean peninsula which are challenging its move to build "unipolar world" and keep Europe under its military control.
With nothing can the United States conceal its sinister design and danger of the "NMD".
Kim Jong Il praised
Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries an article "Kim Jong Il, symbol of independence and dignity" written by Takashi Nada, chairman of the Society for the Study of the Juche Idea in Shikoku, Japan.
The article has sub-titles "great champion," "politics and ability" and "great master of creation, incarnation of benevolence."
In the article Nada refers to facts about the victory the Korean people achieved by resolutely smashing the campaign launched by the imperialists over the suspected "North Korean nuclear development" in the early 1990s, and the west's pressure that followed it under the name of "special inspection."
It tells how General Secretary Kim Jong Il defied the imperialists' persistent "sanctions" and pulled through unprecedented ordeals and difficulties confronting the Korean people in the middle of the 1990s with his unique army-first politics.
Kim Jong Il's leadership is characterized by scientific strategy and superbness, experienced leadership art and invariable constancy and determination, the article stresses, and continues:
The springboard from which the Korean people can build a powerful nation was provided in 4 years from the middle of the 1990s, the most difficult period in the history of socialist construction.
Noting that he has studied the history of Kim Jong Il's independent politics for more than 20 years, Nada writes that witnessing realities in the DPRK, he was confident its people would surely build a powerful nation early in the 21st century.
Oil-bearing flax bred
Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Agricultural Science in the DPRK recently succeeded in breeding oil-bearing flax, a new species of industrial crops.
This will open a prospect of solving the problem of oil in food industry and other sectors.
Flax seed contains over 45 percent of oil or more than double time that of bean.
Flax from which oil is extracted can be used as a raw material for food industry as it contains 32 percent of protein and other nutriments.
Its stalks can also be used in producing good-quality paper.
One ton of stalks is enough to produce 500 kg of paper.
Boiled oil, lac and printing ink can be made from flax.
