DPRK FM's speech at ASEAN regional forum meeting

Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will make a positive contribution to the joint exploration of the ways for peace and security suitable to the actual conditions of Asia, said Paek Nam Sun, Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, at the 7th meeting of the ASEAN regional forum in Bangkok on July 27.
Paek said the DPRK's admission to the forum is a product of the shared desire and expectation of the member nations of the forum and the DPRK to get relations among the nations on a stable track, promote friendship and harmony among them and cooperate for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
Referring to the efficient role played by the forum as a stage of dialogue for regional peace and security and its signal achievements, he expressed expectation that the forum would take an unbiased approach to the issues of peace on the Korean peninsula and the independent reunification of the Korean nation and do things beneficial to their materialization.
    He further said:
The issue of ensuring peace on the Korean peninsula is, for the present, directly linked with the problem of terminating outside forces' interference and removing the hostile relations between the DPRK and some countries concerned. In the long run, this problem can be solved completely only when the independent reunification of the nation is realized.
The DPRK government has consistently pursued the policy of establishing diplomatic relations with those countries which were hostile towards the DPRK and at war and improving inter-Korean relations on the principle of respect to sovereignty and right to choice and made sincere efforts to this end.
I take this opportunity to reaffirm that the DPRK government will make active contribution to the joint exploration of the ways for peace and security suitable to the actual conditions of Asia in conformity with purpose and ideal of the forum.
