Kim Jong Il directs industrial sector in North Hamgyong Province
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the industrial sector in North Hamgyong Province on August 1 and 2.
His inspection involved the Kim Chaek Iron Works, the March 17 Power Station, newly-built minor power stations, a saltern now under construction in Orang county, the Chongjin Fish Farm and other industrial establishments.
The first leg of his inspection was the Kim Chaek Iron Works, the nation's metallurgical giant.
Looking round the furnace shop, the hot rolling shop and other processes, he acquainted himself in detail with the production.
Then he met model junior officials and innovators, convened a consultative meeting of leading officials of the works and put forward tasks to increase its production capacity and keep the production going at a high rate.
He saw an art performance given by the travelling art agitation troupe of the works and highly appreciated its members for their revolutionary and militant agitating activities.
The next leg of his visit was the March 17 Power Station.
After learning about the electricity production there, he noted with great satisfaction that the workers and technicians of the power station produced a lot of electricity, thus greatly contributing to the prosperity and development of the country.
He then moved to the Kimchol Power Station and other newly-built minor power stations to guide the work there. He acquainted himself in detail with their construction, production of electricity and its use.
He also visited the saltern which is close to completion.
After learning about details of its overall construction, he set forth tasks to put salt production on a modern and scientific basis.
He thus got familiar with the overall situation in the province and, on this basis, advanced highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines in significantly developing the industry in the province.
He said that rapid industrial development in the province is of weighty importance in the nation's overall economic development.
He proposed tasks to fully satisfy the growing needs for iron and steel, build many minor power stations to solve the electricity problem, boost the production of machinery, develop medium-and small-scale and inshore fishing and sea culture to increase aquatic products and improve supply service for workers.
Noting that the success of the party policies hinges on the officials who command the revolution today, he called on them to keep the organizational and political work ahead of other affairs to match the elated enthusiasm of the workers.
The visiting party included Ri Kun Mo, chief secretary of the north Hamgyong provincial committee of the WPK, Kim Kuk Thae, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Pak Nam Gi, chairman of the State Planning Commission, first vice-directors of departments of the party central committee and officials concerned.
Kim Yong Nam receives credentials from newly appointed ambassador of Morocco
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, received credentials from Mimun Mehdi, newly appointed Ambassador E.P. of the Kingdom of Morocco to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
Present there was Pak Tong Chun, vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Then, the President had a talk with the ambassador.
Congratulations to President of Bolivar Republic of Venezuela
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a congratulatory message on Thursday to Hugo Chavez Frias upon his reelection as President of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela.
The message extended warm congratulations to him on his reelection as President of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela through the general election held in the country on July 30.
It expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would grow stronger and develop and wished the President great success in his responsible work for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Hong Song Nam, premier of the DPRK cabinet, sent a congratulatory message to Nambarin Enkhbayar upon his appointment as Prime Minister of Mongolia.

National students sports games for "September 5 Cup"
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- National students sports games for "September 5 Cup," an annual event in the DPRK, took place in Hamhung from July 25 to August 2.
Participants, divided into university and college groups, competed in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, handball, tennis, defence sports and rhythmic gymnastics events.
Kim Il Sung University came first in football, volleyball, table tennis, tennis and women's handball matches in the university group.
Kim Jong Il's idea of attaching great importance to science supported
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- K. L. Kapoor, general secretary of the All-India Newspaper Employees Federation, issued a statement on July 28 in support of the idea of the great leader Kim Jong Il on attaching great importance to science.

Projected hometown visit of Koreans under Chongryon hailed
Tokyo, August 2 (KNS-KCNA) -- So Man Sul, first vice-chairman of the central standing committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), warmly welcomed the agreement on realizing hometown visit of Koreans under Chongryon, which was reached at the first round of north-south ministerial talks.
He at a press conference held in Tokyo on August 1 said that the agreement is a shining fruition of the historic Pyongyang meeting and the north-south joint declaration.

Film show and photo exhibition on National Day of Morocco
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A film show and a photo exhibition were held yesterday on the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Mimun Mehdi, new Moroccan ambassador to the DPRK, was invited.
Present there were Ri Song Ho, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, officials concerned and working people in the city.
The participants saw a documentary film introducing the national culture of Morocco and looked round photos showing the history, culture, customs and natural landscape of Morocco.
WFP donates aid equipment
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The World Food Program donated aid equipment including light trucks and water pumps needed for tree planting and land management in the DPRK.
A presentation ceremony was held in Pyongyang yesterday.
The equipment was delivered to officials concerned by Douglas Broderick of the mission of the WFP here.
Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's celebrated work commemorated
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" serves as a militant banner and a treasured sword for the movement for national reunification, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article dedicated to the third anniversary of its publication.

He in the work comprehensively reviewed President Kim Il Sung's history of guidance over reunification and glorified his idea and line of reunification and his immortal exploits as the nation's most precious heritage and a solid boon to national reunification.
The respected Kim Jong Il clarified the importance of the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point program of great unity of the entire nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, advanced by the President, in the national reunification movement and formulated them as a three-point charter of national reunification in which basic principles and methods of achieving reunification are systematized and consummated.
In the work he solemnly clarified the revolutionary will of the Worker's Party of Korea (WPK) and the Korean people to carry forward the cause of national reunification started and steered by Kim Il Sung and reunify the country in our generation at any cost.
Also elucidated in his work are overall questions of principles and tasks to be settled to carry out the President's line and policies on national reunification including issues of maintaining the principle of national independence and building up the nation's internal force to achieve national reunification and the issue of reunifying the country peacefully and applying a federal formula to do so and the principled stand of the WPK concerning it.
In the work he also referred to urgent matters that present themselves in practice to achieve the country's independent and peaceful reunification.
Reflected in the work are Kim Jong Il's patriotic will and desire to replace the north-south relations of distrust and confrontation by those of trust and reconciliation and thus achieve national unity and cohesion and create an international environment for Korea's reunification in order to bring earlier peace and peaceful reunification to the Korean peninsula.

China donates equipment to DPRK hydro-meteorological service
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The Chinese State Meteorological Bureau donated equipment for receiving satellite telecommunications, computers and other equipment to the hydro-meteorological service of the DPRK.
Chinese ambassador to Korea Wang Guozhang and embassy officials handed equipment to the service on the spot on August 3.
Present there are Ko Il Hun, director of the hydro-meteorological service of the DPRK, and officials concerned.
The Chinese State Meteorological Bureau's donation of equipment this time in the wake of its presentation in April this year against the backdrop of the daily deepening DPRK-China friendship will help develop the hydro-meteorological work in the DPRK.
The participants looked round the donated equipment.
Wang Guozhang said that the Sino-Korean friendship provided by Mao Zedong and Kim Il Sung, the revolutionaries of the old generation of the two countries, is now growing stronger and developing under the guidance of President Jiang Zemin and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Ancient military science book
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Korea boasts of its national heritage -- the "Military Science Book."
The two volume military drill book was authored by Jang Ji Hang, Minister of Justice and director of the military training school in 1785.
The first volume of the book deals with methods and order of training.
In the part "instructions on drill ground" of the book he writes about the procedures of soldiers' entry into the drill ground, the method of forming columns, the order of action according to various signals, the position to be occupied by soldiers the moment the enemy appears and order of firing, battle of pursuing fleeing enemy, the order to be observed by units when camping and the method of estimating drill results.
The part "training" of the book deals with methods of drilling by lowest units at military barracks such as formation of columns of soldiers when using swords and spears, methods of taking positions and the orders of sending signals and firing at the attacking enemy.
The "instructions on night drill" elaborate on the institution of countersign and the method of ambushing, patrolling and fighting night battle. The "instructions on battle at fort" deal with methods of fighting inside a fort.
In the "instructions on naval battle" the author writes about the order for seamen to get aboard a ship and the methods of fighting enemy ships.
The second volume of the book gives picture-accompanied explanation of war methods dealt with in the drill pictorial book at that time.
Among over 100 pictures there are significant historical materials including pictures showing instructions on fighting at the Namhan Hill fort and the formation of combat ranks.
This "book" is preserved well as the nation's precious heritage.
Korean people's cause of national reunification supported
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The Korean people's cause of national reunification was supported by officials of international and regional organizations on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.
Chango Machyo, senior adviser to the President of Uganda who is director of the board of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, in a statement on July 25 said that the President Kim Il Sung made all his efforts for the country's reunification.
Kim Il Sung put forward the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point program of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, opening a bright vista of the reunification of the Korean peninsula and these are fully supported by the world's people as well as all the Korean people for their fairness, he noted, and went on:
The great leader Kim Jong Il provided a strong pillar of Korea's reunification by formulating as three-point charter of reunification the line and policies of national reunification set forth by Kim Il Sung and is wisely leading the Korean people's struggle for the reunification of the country.
Abdul Rahman Matar, chief of information of the permanent secretariat of the Organization of Socialists in the Mediterranean, in a statement on the same day expressed full support and solidarity with the vigorous struggle of the Korean people for national reunification under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Ishihara's outburst assailed
Tokyo, August 2 (KNS-KCNA) -- Representatives of the central standing committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and the Tokyo metropolitan headquarters of Chongryon and the Women's Union visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Office on July 27 and lodged a strong protest with Tokyo Metropolitan Governor Shintaro Ishihara for reiterating hostility toward the DPRK.
Laying bare the essence and gravity of his repeated anachronistic and challenging remarks, they strongly demanded that he apologize for his serious insult to the authority and dignity of the DPRK and the Korean people and cancel his remarks at once.
