Pyongyang, time-honored city
Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has a history of 5,000 years.
Pyongyang noted for its scenic beauty boasts of being a cradle of human beings from the old stone age.
It is clearly proved by Komunmoru relic of primitive men dating back more than a million years, which were discovered in Sangwon county, Pyongyang.
Many fossils of palaeolithic and Neolithic men and sites of ancient shelters were unearthed in suburbs of Pyongyang.
Pyongyang had been the capital of the country for more than 1,500 years from the time when Tangun, the ancestral father of the nation, built Kojoson, the first ancient kingdom in Korea, 5,000 years ago to the period around the 14th century B.C.
Tangun set up Pyongyang as a capital and expanded his territory and built a powerful state.
Pyongyang had been a center of the country for nearly 3,000 years as the capital of three kingdoms, Tangun's Korea and its successors Hujoson and Manjoson--until 108 B.C.
Historical status and role of Pyongyang was carried forward by koguryo which emerged as a 1,000-year-strong country following Kojoson.
Koguryo moved its capital to Pyongyang in 427 and further strengthened the economy and military power of the country, fully demonstrating the resourcefulness and might of the nation to the world.
Koryo, the first unified state that emerged with an idea of rebuilding Koguryo into great Koguryo, attached great importance to Pyongyang from its early period and exerted great efforts to reconstruct it. It was because Pyongyang was the birthplace of the nation and the capital of Tangun's Korea.
In the period of the ri dynasty, too, Pyongyang played an important role in the development of the history of the nation, preserving its status as the biggest city in northwestern Korea.
In Pyongyang today king Tangun's mausoleum and the founder of Koguryo, king Tongmyong's mausoleum have been rebuilt and the fort on Mt. Taesong, the walled city of Pyongyang and other historical relics are preserved in their original state. All this bears witness to its history of 5,000 years.
Today Pyongyang stands as the capital of the DPRK, a modern city with a lot of grand monumental edifices.
Rodong Sinmun calls for smashing imperialists' "globalization"
Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- The calls of the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea published in the run-up to its 55th anniversary appealed to the world people to resolutely smash the imperialists' "globalization."
The calls serve as an inspiring banner powerfully encouraging the world progressive people in their struggle against domination and plunder and for the building of a new society, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
It continues:
"Globalization" peddled by the imperialists is not a "good prescription" for the prosperity of the developing countries but an economic strategy to put the noose around their necks.
The article points to the disastrous consequences of "globalization," noting that if the developing countries take the road of "globalization" as demanded by the imperialists, they will lose their unique economic modes and structures and thus become complete economic colonies of the western countries.
What is important for frustrating the imperialists' "globalization" is for all the developing nations to see through its nature and danger and put up a vigorous collective struggle against it, the article says, and goes on:
The way out for the developing countries is not "globalization" but south-south cooperation.
If they build a south-south economic order and energetically develops it, the old international economic order set up by the imperialists will not work.
The unity of the developing countries is a sure guarantee for smashing the imperialists' moves for "globalization" and achieving their independent development.
Noting that the "internationalization" of the settlement of disputes touted by the imperialists means an extension of their moves for "globalization" and a military intervention aimed to establish their political order in the world, the article urges all the developing countries not to be deceived to get involved in or help in it.
The developing countries should resolutely smash the imperialists' "globalization" in order to give further impetus to their independent development and the cause of making the whole world independent, the article stresses.
