Papers observe World Day of Tourism
Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Papers today dedicate articles to the World Day of Tourism.
Rodong Sinmun in an article says that multifarious international functions have been held to mark the day.
The third general meeting of the world tourism organization held in Spain in September 1979 set Sept. 27 as world day of tourism and decided to mark the day from 1980, the paper says, and continues:
The DPRK became a member state of the organization in 1987.
This year's slogan set forth by the organization is "Techniques and nature: Two major tasks for tourism in early 21st century." Under this slogan member states of the organization are conducting brisk tourist activities.
The DPRK is taking an active part in the international tourist activities and making strenuous efforts to develop tourism.
Tourists from many countries visit the DPRK every year.
Minju Joson says that entertainment and rest grounds and scenic spots wonderfully arranged in many places of the country are greatly helpful to the people's cultural and emotional life.
Russian political party leader on Putin's Korea visit
Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- The Russian newspaper Patriot no. 33 carried what Oleg Shenin, chairman of the council of the Union of Communist Parties--the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, said as regards President Putin's Korea visit at a press conference.
He affirmatively appreciated Putin's Korea visit, which he said shows that Russia is interested in socialist Korea firmly pursuing independent policies with self-reliance under the guidance of its leader Kim Jong Il and the Worker's Party of Korea.
Putin's visit clearly proves that the authority of the DPRK which is making great achievements by applying socialist principles, confidently advancing along the road of socialism, is rising day by day. In other words, it is the exploit of the people and party of Korea and its leader Kim Jong Il, he said, and went on:
Our party pays deep concern to the measures taken by the DPRK for peaceful reunification of the country. Experience of Korea will be beneficial to our struggle to revive the soviet union.
U.S. attempt to keep its troops in South Korea
Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- U.S. Secretary of Defense Cohen, when he separately met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Director General of the Defense Agency of Japan, said that the improvement of relations between the north and south of Korea is progressing apace but the military capability of North Korea has not weakened.
And he said that though reconciliation and even reunification between the north and the south are achieved, it is important to keep the U.S. troops on the Korean peninsula and that the military balance should be maintained in this region.
Japan agreed with this.
Commenting on this fact, Rodong Sinmun today says the absurd remarks came when the world peace-loving people are loudly calling for the U.S. troops' pullout from South Korea as the north-south reconciliation is rapidly developing.
The news analyst commentary goes on:
The U.S. claim for the maintenance "of military balance" is aimed at describing the U.S. troops as "war deterrent force" and keeping them in South Korea for an indefinite period.
In order to dominate the world it is imperative to take hold on the Asia-Pacific region by force of arms and, to this end, it is important to turn the whole of Korea into a stronghold of aggression. This is the U.S. calculation and policy.
That is why the United States is desperately obstructing the Korean nation from taking the road of reconciliation, unity and reunification.
The Korean people are very proud of the fact that they have strengthened the self-reliant defense capability in every way to cope with the U.S. moves against the DPRK, the commentary says, refuting Cohen's assertion on the military capability of North Korea.
Noting that the north and the south agreed to independently solve the issue of national reunification by concerted efforts of the Korean nation, its master, it stresses that the United States must abandon its anachronistic Korea policy and the design to permanently occupy South Korea and go home at an early date, swimming with the changing trend of the Korean peninsula toward reconciliation.
Supreme incarnation of devotedly safeguarding leader
Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- "The first generation of the Korean revolution fought like phoenix and won victory in their struggle to defend the President Kim Il Sung in hearty response to the slogan let us defend the headquarters with our lives put up by Kim Jong Suk, the heroine of Mt. Paektu, during the rigorous anti-Japanese armed struggle. Kim Jong Suk was, indeed, the supreme incarnation who devotedly safeguarded the leader."
This is what Hwang Sun Hui, an anti-Japanese revolutionary fighter, said retrospecting the noble revolutionary spirit and indomitable fighting trait of Kim Jong Suk during the anti-Japanese war.
The noble life of Kim Jong Suk, an indomitable communist revolutionary fighter and an anti-Japanese heroine, was consistent with the spirit of devotedly safeguarding the leader.
She joined the revolutionary struggle in her early years and set a brilliant example in the most rigorous and hard-fought anti-Japanese war.
In June Juche 29 (1940) she safeguarded the great commander Kim Il Sung as a human shield when a critical situation was created in a battle.
Her fighting spirit and trait were highly displayed in the life-and-death battle sites and everywhere she went for underground activities.
After the liberation of the country, she energetically worked for the well-being of the President and to fulfil his line for nation-building.
After triumphant return home she postponed visiting her native home within a hailing distance and upheld the leadership of the President giving on-site guidance to hundreds of units across the country until the last moments of her life.
Her spirit of devotedly safeguarding the leader is fully reflected in the slogan "Let us defend with our lives the headquarters of revolution headed by the great comrade Kim Jong Il "
The Korean people are devotedly safeguarding Kim Jong Il and pushing ahead with a grand forward advance for the building of a powerful nation upholding the slogan representing her noble intention.
