WPK strengthened under banner of DIU
Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today devotes an article to the 18th anniversary of the publication of the leader Kim Jong Il's work "The Workers' Party of Korea is a Juche-type revolutionary party which inherited the glorious tradition of the DIU."
DIU stands for the "Down-With-Imperialism Union" which the President Kim Il Sung formed on October 17, Juche 15 (1926).
The glorious history of the wpk began with the formation of the DIU.
The article says this immortal work represents Kim Jong Il's unshakable determination and will to glorify the WPK as the eternal party of Kim Il Sung, the revolutionary party of Juche type.
It lays stress on the greatness of Kim Jong Il, who in his work expounded the correct ways of strengthening and developing the WPK into the revolutionary party of Juche type upholding the banner of the Juche idea, the revolutionary idea of Kim Il Sung, and performed immortal feats for the cause of party building of our times with tested leadership.
The article goes on:
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, the WPK has demonstrated itself as a dignified party which firmly defends the banner of independence and an invincible party which achieved the cohesion and unity of its ranks on the highest level.
The work to found and strengthen the party has been carried out independently in keeping with the specific conditions of Korea and the interests of its people proceeding from the steadfast stand that the Koreans are masters of the Korean revolution. this is a great pride of the wpk.
The cohesion and unity of the wpk are very solid and viable because it has held in high esteem the great leader as a centre of its unity and invariably inherited the tradition of the diu.
With this invincible might the wpk could follow up the most difficult "arduous march" and the forced march with the cheerful march and smash every move of the imperialists to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
And it has strengthened and developed into an invincible party which maintains ties of kinship with the popular masses under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The future of Korea is bright as long as there is the invincible revolutionary party led by the great leader.

World Day of Food observed
Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Papers here observe the World Day of Food.
To solve the food problem on a world-wide scale is an elementary problem of ensuring the existence of humankind, said Rodong Sinmun yesterday in a signed article.
The article went on:
The DPRK has made strenuous efforts to boost agricultural production even under natural disasters which have continued for several years.
The land levelling and rezoning the Korean people have conducted, tightening their belts, will open a bright prospect for farming in Korea.
If all the countries and peoples strive to increase grain production and conduct brisk international cooperation and exchange, the food problem of the world will surely be solved in a new millennium.
Minju Joson today says that the DPRK praises the activities of the UN food and agriculture organization for the solution of the food problem and will discharge its national and international duties to overcome the world-wide famine and starvation.
Independent and peaceful reunification vital to Korean nation
Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries an article calling upon all who love the country and the nation and desire the independent and peaceful reunification of the country to do their utmost for peace and peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula.
The different ideas and systems existing in the north and the south cannot be a reason for which the compatriots should fight each other over the matter of reunification, the article says, and goes on:
Dispute may be raised between the two sides because of their differences in the idea and system. But this will be easily settled in such a peaceful way as dialogue and negotiation, if each side doesn't impose its idea and system on the other.
What the Korean nation desires is not reunification by a war but the peaceful reunification based on national reconciliation and unity.
The reunification based on fratricidal war will only bring misfortunes and disasters rather than interests to the nation.
The national reunification itself is to realize the national reconciliation and unity and a national cause for prosperity of the nation and happiness of posterity.
To peacefully reunify the country is a major condition for independent life of the Korean nation.
The adoption of the historic June 15 north-south joint declaration is of speculative significance in deepening understandings and developing relations between the two sides and realizing peaceful reunification.
UN reform should be made on right principles
Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The issue of reforming the United Nations should be solved thoroughly in a right way to conform with the desire of humankind for an independent, new world, rodong sinmun today in a signed article says.
The article goes on:
The UN reform should be made in such a way that the UN can fully discharge its functions in keeping with the principles of its activities.
Now the focus of discussion on the UN reform is on the reform of the UN security council, in particular, on powers of its permanent members and the issue of increasing the number of permanent members.
If the UN is to fully discharge its functions in keeping with the principles of its activities at present, its reforms should be carried out above anything else in such a way that any specified country or forces may not boss the show in the UN.
First of all, vigilance should be heightened against the maneuvers of some forces to leave the UN without any real meaning.
As the position of a majority of members has risen in the UN, some forces are seeking to weaken the powers of the UN and, worse still, are running amuck in disregard of the UN.
It is important to sound a note of warning in time against the moves of those forces who are trying to reform the UN in the direction of gratifying their unjust interests.
The reform of the UNSC is not a mere problem of increasing the number of its permanent membership, but it is the issue of readjusting the UN system and its mode of activities so that the UN can play its functions more satisfactorily in accordance with the aspiration and requirement of humankind.
The permanent seat of the UNSC can never be bought with money. It can be taken by the country which is ready to provide conditions for the UN to act according to its charter and which is enjoying trust from the international community.
Failure to conduct the UN reform on the right principles and direction may make troubles in the way of the UN.
The UN reform should be made thoroughly on the right principles.
