S. Korean trade unions launch all-out struggle
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of South Korean Trade Unions and other labour organizations have turned out in an all-out struggle in protest against police violence, according to Radio No. 1 from Seoul.
The FKTU stated that the April 27 arrest of leading members of banking workers' union following the violent crackdown upon the unionists of the Daewoo Motor Company indicates that the authorities' suppression of workers has become all the more pronounced as the days go by.
The organization decided at a meeting for urgent measures on April 28 to hold a mammoth "national workers' rally" in the city center on May 1.
It also called a press conference in the federation hall on April 29 and said that it would begin an indefinite hunger strike on the day and stage a big rally in Seoul on May Day with workers from different parts of South Korea attending.
Meanwhile, the KCTU decided to hold a rally to mark May Day in Seoul.

It fully proves the scientific nature of socialism as an inevitable outcome of social development and comprehensively clarifies the essential advantages of the socialist society and its invincibility.
KCNA refutes Japan's anti-DPRK diatribe
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- It has been a chronic evil habit of Japan to cover up its criminal nature with plots and trickery.
Recently, the Japanese government sent families of "those kidnapped" to the U.N. commission on human rights to beg for relief and floated the trite fiction that it discovered evidence showing possible "infiltration of North Korean agents into the coast of Japan." Not satisfied with these burlesques, it went the length of attacking the DPRK even in its "diplomatic blue paper for 2000."
This is a carefully pre-arranged political gambling aimed to paint an assailant as a "victim" and lay a springboard from which to reinvade Korea. In other words, Japan seeks to speed up its moves to become a military power through the tightened Japan-U.S. military alliance while working to exercise the right of collective self-defence and perfecting the "laws on emergency" targeted at the second Korean war under the pretext of non-existent "kidnapping" issue and "infiltration of North Korean agents."
Japan has escalated its moves to become a military power, revising little by little the "peace constitution" which calls for abiding by the "principle of war renouncement and total defence" through the adoption of laws related to the "Japan-U.S. cooperative defence guidelines."
Japan's moves to become a military power and its militarization are already close to the process of declaring them as a policy, going beyond the phase of discussion.
The idea of militarism is being rapidly disseminated in the Japanese society and militarism has begun to prevail in it, as evidenced by official visits to the Yasukuni Shrine by right-wing political figures, the retrogressive revision of history textbooks, negation of history and Japan's evasion of its responsibility to liquidate its past, etc.
Japan's militarization and emergence as a military power will certainly lead it to overseas expansion. This is an established fact proven by what it did in the past.
The Japanese politicians are well advised not to persist in their moves to exercise the right of collective self-defence and perfect the "laws on emergency," which will drive Japan itself to destruction, but properly liquidate its past.
U.S. conservative hard liners' belligerent remarks under fire
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary condemns the U.S. conservative hard liners for their belligerent remarks against the DPRK.
The commentary says:
Recently U.S. Secretary of State Powell at the end of the talks with several European counterparts asserted that North Korea still remains a very "serious threat" to the U.S. allies and it is unreasonable for the U.S. to establish diplomatic ties with North Korea.
The commander of the U.S. forces in South Korea at the senate foreign relations committee claimed that the number and scope of military exercises staged by North Korea have swelled, it has massed more military forces near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and is going ahead with the deployment of medium-range ballistic missiles, a proof of a "growing military threat" from it.
As for the U.S. assertion that it would not establish diplomatic ties with the DPRK because of its "military threat", the DPRK has never begged the U.S. for improved relations.
No matter how noisily the U.S. may talk about "military threat" from the DPRK, it pays no heed to it.
What should not be overlooked is the fact that the U.S. warlike forces, vociferating about the fiction of "threat from North Korea," are citing it as a pretext for the pursuance of its hard line policy to stifle the DPRK.
As far as the military threat is concerned, the DPRK has to call the U.S. to task for posing threat to it. Washington has massively deployed offensive weapons such as nuclear weapons and missiles in and around South Korea, posing a great threat to the DPRK.
The rumor of "threat" from the DPRK spread by the U.S. hawks is aimed to justify the above-said policy and ignite the second Korean war, while watching for a chance to do so.
It is the DPRK's mode of counter-measure to meet with a stick the U.S. shaking its fist and return an artillary fire for its rifle fire.
If the U.S. imperialists unleash a new war of aggression in Korea at any cost, not a single soldier of their aggressor forces will go back alive and their territory will not be safe, either.
The U.S. conservative hard liners are well advised to drop their hard line policy towards the DPRK, clearly mindful that it will bring them to nowhere, the commentary warns.
May Day observed
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Papers here today devote editorials to May Day, which say that the workers of Korea are advancing under the banner of independence.
The history of the revolutionary struggle of the workers' party and people of Korea is a proud history in which they faced up to challenges of the imperialists, holding aloft the banner of indpendence, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
The working class of Korea, revolutionary class with the most transparent independent faith and anti-imperialist stand, have emerged victorious.
The indomitable spirit of the Korean workers who wage vigorous anti-imperialist struggle is fully demonstrated in the historical advance of the 21st century.
The workers and other people of Korea are the most revolutionary people who respond to the imperialists' hard line policy with a tougher stand, the people who hold fast to a revolutionary stand and principle in any circumstances.
The workers of Korea make a glorious epic of anti-imperialist struggle in the van of the era. It is unthinkable without experienced guidance of leader Kim Jong Il.
Kim Jong Il has imbued the workers and other people with transparent anti-imperialist class consciousness and brought them up as staunch vanguard fighters who fight against imperialism to the last.
The Korean people, who live in the spirit of Mt. Paektu implanted by him and fight with the same grit and will as his, will as ever make a history of certain victory in the struggle against imperialism.
Minju Joson calls upon the workers and other people of Korea to work harder to build a powerful socialist nation and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche rallied close around Kim Jong Il.

He noted that the province should massively raise goats to sufficiently supply nutritious milk products to the people.
He also proposed tasks to build all the farm villages to meet the needs of socialism.
