Japan's distortion of history in textbooks slammed

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The liaison council of the society for the study of the Juche idea of Japanese teachers and the Japan-Korea society for scientific and educational interchange on April 15 released a statement captioned "We condemn the moves to turn back the wheel of history by tampering with it through textbooks." The statement noted: It is natural that the Japanese Ministry of Education and Science's recent approval at examination of the seriously twisted junior high school history textbooks is strongly condemned by the Korean and other Asian people.
It said that teachers together with broad segments of citizens should conduct a campaign against the approval of the history textbooks written by the "Japanese Society for History Textbook Reform" in order to shatter the reactionary forces' moves to beautify Japan's war of aggression and infuse "imperial" view on history into children and students and thus turn back the wheel of history.
It underscored the need not to allow education to be reactionary but to launch a vigorous movement for enforcing right education in history and preserving the constitution and the basic law on education.
It called on the government to make an official apology and compensation for the past crime and establish the Japan-DPRK diplomatic ties as early as possible and on the Japanese people to further develop friendship with the Korean people.

U.S. talk about cutdown of conventional forces slammed

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The U.S. ruling quarters have invented a new pretext for the permanent presence of its forces in South Korea in pursuance of their hostile policy towards the DPRK to stifle it. This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun today.
    The commentary says:
The hawkish forces of the bush administration are trying to raise the issue of "reduction of conventional military forces" in the DPRK as an outstanding issue related to the DPRK-U.S. relations, groundlessly asserting that "huge armed forces" of the DPRK deployed along the front are the source of tensions on the Korean peninsula and a hurdle in the way of realizing disarmament there.
It dismisses the U.S. loudmouthed "reduction of conventional military forces" as a brigandish logic as it is aimed to disarm the DPRK and put it in a defenseless state in a bid to seize it with ease any moment.
Their assertion is a crafty and sinister plot to permanently keep the U.S. troops in South Korea under the pretext of the "threat" of DPRK's conventional military forces. The far-fetched insistence made by the bush ruling quarters on the "cutdown of conventional forces" in the DPRK is little short of admitting themselves the fact that there is no more ground for them to keep their forces in South Korea.
The United States, regarding the policy of strength as a main strategy for world domination, has chosen the Korean peninsula as an operational theatre of its major offensive.
The U.S. troops in South Korea are the main forces to keep its military and strategic edge in East Asia. For this reason the united states is working hard to keep South Korea under its military occupation at any cost and inventing absurd pretexts to justify it.
The bellicose forces' assertion is as preposterous as forcing a house owner to meekly obey an intruder into the house.
This is the wrong doing by the biggest rogue state in the world.
Neither brigandish logic nor high-handed method can work on the DPRK. The United States had better quit South Korea of its own accord before being driven out of it.

South headquarters of Pomchonghakryon meets

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- A meeting of presidium members of the south headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) was held on April 30, according to a news report. Submitted to the meeting was a report on the draft program for an allout anti-U.S. struggle.
Discussed and finalized there were a plan to hold a symposium of youth and students at home and abroad for reunification to mark the first anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration (south side's draft) and an appeal of the presidium members of the south headquarters of Pomchonghakryon for launching on may 30 a hunger strike for anti-U.S. national salvation, etc.
The appeal in the joint name of the presidium members called for opening a new phase of the all-people anti-U.S. resistance and turning out in the allout anti-U.S. movement.
It called upon 100,000 people to turn out in the May 18 and May 19 allout struggle and the May 20 Kwangju people's meeting under the anti-U.S. banner and wage an anti-U.S. struggle such as a signature campaign and an attack on the U.S. embassy and thus teach a lesson to the U.S. the appeal urged the United States to withdraw its hardline policy toward the north which throws an obstacle in the way of implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and discontinue its interference in others' internal affairs.

Abolition of SL called for

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) made public a statement on April 28 demanding the abolition of the "Security Law", according to a news report. The atmosphere of national reconciliation and unity has grown stronger since the adoption of the June 15 Joint Declaration last year but many anti-reunification elements still remain in the South Korean society, the statement said.
The first of them is the SL, it noted, adding that as long as the SL, the most evil law in the world, remains in force, the nation cannot think of true reunification and democracy.
After arresting and detaining many fair-minded people by invoking the SL the prosecution recently arrested the chairman of the general student council of Konkuk University who is a deputy to the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils on the charge of being an "enemy-benefitting organization" stipulated in the SL, it recalled.
The statement strongly denounced the anti-reunification forces for going against the trend of the times toward reunification and unity.
The SL is a waste of the times which should be abolished, not revised, and the charge of being "enemy-benefitting organizations" brought against pro-reunification patriotic organizations must be withdrawn at once, it held.

Anti-U.S. resistance called for

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The director of the workers and peasants department of the c.c., the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement on April 30 on the occasion of May Day, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said. The South Korean workers have waged a valiant struggle for their emancipation, national independence and national reunification but nothing has been realized owing to the 50-odd-year U.S. colonial rule, the statement said.
    It went on:
The workers and peasants department of the c.c., the NDFSK strongly demands the termination of the U.S. imperialists' colonial rule and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces.
The South Korean workers should exert all efforts to achieve national independence and great national unity, the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration, and launch strong nationwide anti-U.S. resistance all over South Korea.
For the present they should intensify the ongoing struggle for vital rights including an opposition to lay-off, the guarantee of jobs, an end to restructuring and the abolition of the evil labour law and escalate it into a struggle to force the U.S. forces to pull out of South Korea.

Anniversary of Association for Restoration of Fatherland marked

Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the 65th anniversary of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF) calling for preserving the tradition of national unity to foil outsiders' moves for aggression and achieve the cause of reunification. The article says:
The ARF was organized under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung. It made a great contribution to rallying broad masses around the organization, defeating the Japanese imperialist robbers and liberating the country.
After liberation such political meetings as the joint conference of political parties and public organizations of the north and the south were held and programmes and line for national unity including the ten-point programme for the great unity of the entire nation and the five-point policy of great national unity were set forth in Korea. As a result, a united national front was formed.
For national reunification it is necessary to achieve great national unity among other things.
The nation should preserve the tradition and draw on the experience whereby it achieved liberation with the might of the united national front to foil the outsiders' moves for aggression and achieve national reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation.
The main aim of the Korean nation's struggle at present is to foil and check the U.S. imperialists' moves to obstruct Korea's reunification.
All the fellow countrymen should oppose and reject the U.S. imperialists' anti-DPRK and anti-reunification moves with the viewpoint that the nation's destiny and future hinges on how to conduct an anti-U.S. struggle.
All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad will wage a joint struggle rallied close under the banner of national independence to foil the U.S. imperialists' moves for aggression and interference and surely accomplish the cause of country's reunification as early as possible.
