Kim Jong Il inspects KPA battalion

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il inspected a battalion under KPA unit no. 863 on May 19. Accompanying him were KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, secretary of the WPK Central Committee Kim Kuk Thae and others.
He looked round a revolutionary relics room at the battalion and learned how it has striven to implement instructions given by President Kim Il Sung during his on-the-spot guidance. greatly satisfied to see that its soldiers have done a lot of things in all aspects including the work to increase the combat capacity and manage the unit, he highly praised their deeds.
He acquainted himself with the performance of the battalion's duties and saw soldiers' military training.
He noted with great satisfaction that all its soldiers have grown to be a-match-for-a-hundred fighters firmly armed with the party's Juche-based military tactics and set forth important tasks which would serve as a guideline in further increasing the combat capacity of the unit.
Then he went to an education room, bedroom and entertainment and logistic facilities and stressed that the commanding officers should always show deep concern for the living of soldiers with warm love for them.
It is an expression of noble patriotism that the soldiers of the battalion have turned mountains around the barracks into a dense forest, he said, adding: The ideological and spiritual world of the heroic KPA, the army of the leader, the party and the revolution, is, indeed, noble and beautiful.
He instructed the battalion to plant more fast-growing trees around the barracks for rest and entertainment activities of soldiers.
He enjoyed an art performance given by soldiers.
He gave a pair of binoculars, an automatic rifle and a machine-gun to the battalion as gifts and posed for a photograph with them.

International fact-finding group leaves

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The international group to probe the truth behind GIs' war crimes headed by former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark left here yesterday. It was seen off by Choe Jong Hwan, vice-chairman of the Korean Democratic Lawyers Association, at the airport.

U.S. move to form new army brigades

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) - The U.S. army is attempting to organise brigades based on a "new conception," which can be deployed in the Korean peninsula from the mainland within four days, under the pretext of "coping with an emergency," according to a report. It was reported that two brigades would be formed by next year and the maneuverability and fire power of these brigades would be much greater than the existing brigades to play the role of a U.S. army task force.
This clearly proves that the bush administration is working hard to ignite the second war of aggression in Korea.

New U.S. military strategy slammed

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The United States recently expressed its intention to modify its "win-win strategy" with a view to increasing the "efficiency" of its combat forces and adopt a new military strategy calling for shifting the main U.S. forces to East Asia. In this regard, Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says:
This new strategy presupposes starting a war of aggression.
It is a product of its moves for confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region and an extremely dangerous strategy intended to push the situation in the region to the brink of war.
The "win-win strategy" worked out by the U.S. imperialists in 1991 is a strategy for a war of aggression as it calls for simultaneously carrying out wars on the Korean peninsula and in the mid-east.
The proposed modification of this strategy is aimed to stifle the DPRK, contain big powers in the Asia-Pacific region, exercise its political and economic influence and have a military edge in a bid to emerge as a de facto ruler over the East Asian region.
It is an unchangeable ambition of the U.S. imperialists to stifle the DPRK by force and take a grip on the whole of Korea and thus carry out their strategy to invade Asia, using it as a springboard.
In order to realize this design they proposed the modification of the "win-win strategy" and seek to shift even the military forces deployed in Europe, the mid-east and other regions to the Asia-Pacific region.
They have so far left no means untried to destroy socialism in Korea but in vain. Such being the hard reality, the bush administration is poised to mount a military attack on the DPRK, pursuant to the hard-line policy to stifle it.

S. Korean police suppression of students condemned

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Some time ago, the South Korean police headquarters announced that legal actions would be taken against graduates and students of a university in Seoul, for the mere reason that they formed an organization, distributed copies of a "document praising the north" and used them for teaching materials. Commenting on it, Rodong Sinmun today says:
This is little short of a ruthless repression of students and people's free choice of idea and free political activities. it is an intolerable anti-national criminal act of throwing a wet blanket over the fellow countrymen's desire for the reunification of the country and challenging the DPRK.
The desire of the Koreans for national reconciliation and unity and reunification is very strong now, the commentary notes, and goes on:
It shows the great vitality of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, which was solemnly proclaimed at home and abroad, as it calls for achieving the independent reunification of the country by the united efforts of the Korean nation, responsible for it.
However, the South Korean police authorities are incriminating and repressing students' activities beneficial to the implementation of the declaration, instead of encouraging them. This cannot but be an act of undisguisedly denying dialogue and reunification.
We bitterly denounce such repressive move, branding it as an intentional and criminal act of going against the spirit of the joint declaration and putting the brake on its implementation.
National reunification is the greatest desire and the most urgent task of all the Koreans in the north, south and abroad at present. Turning aside this issue and standing in the way of its solution will be condemned as a never-to-be-condoned crime.

Observance of principle of national sovereignty called for

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- If the Korean nation is to achieve its reunification, it should reject foreign forces and abide by the principle of national sovereignty, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. The article goes on:
As the struggle of the Korean nation for its reunification is a struggle for establishing national sovereignty throughout Korea, no other nation can replace Koreans in this cause and they can never achieve it by depending on others.
It is due to the outsiders who do not wish to see Korea reunified and their followers at home that the Korean nation still remains the world's only disgraceful divided nation without achieving reunification.
What is important for maintaining the principle of national sovereignty is to wage a resolute struggle against foreign forces' interference in the internal affairs of the Korean nation and their moves for aggression.
When the Koreans unite and struggle with a will to put an end to the division and establish national sovereignty throughout the country, the foreign aggressor forces will become impotent and the national reunification, the cherished desire of the nation, will surely be achieved.

U.S. branded as rogue state of worst type in world

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed article terming the United States the rogue state of the worst type in the world. Referring to the U.S. government's number of "grounds" to label other countries as "rogue states", the article says: The first is the development of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and missiles.
However, the U.S. is the very country which is to blame for them.
It ranks first in the world in the number of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and missiles. It surpasses all other countries by far in their quantity and destruction power. it is the criminal state of the worst type which inflicted the most fatal calamities upon humankind by use of these weapons.
It dropped atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thus becoming the only and sole country in the world which used nuclear weapons against humankind for the first time in history.
During the Korean War, it repeatedly tried to use nuclear weapons.
    The second is "terrorism-sponsor."
In an "annual report on terrorism", the U.S. department of state on May 1 listed some countries as "terrorism-sponsor states". Quite contrary to their advertisement, the criminal sponsor of international terrorism is none other than the United States.
Acting as if it were a "judge of terrorism," it, listing other countries as "terrorism-sponsor states," puts pressure upon them and uses armed forces against them under this or that pretext.
After its appearance, the Bush administration committed several rounds of air bombings against Iraq.
The U.S. is condemned as the rogue state of the worst type in the world for its reckless misbehaviours which cannot be imagined by other countries.
Its military actions against Yugoslavia two years ago contravened the international law and norms of international relations.
The Bush administration's recent official announcement that it would not comply with the "Kyoto protocol" is the reckless act of a rogue country which unhesitatingly commits any unjustifiable acts for its own sake.
Such arbitrary and strong-arm practices of the United States will not work in the present world.
Humankind will certainly bring the U.S. to the court of history and severely punish it.
