Highly reputed circus

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang National Circus in the DPRK is well known at home and abroad. The circus has given over 30,000 performances since it was established on June 10, 1952.
These include more than 5,300 performances staged in over 540 cities of a total of 187 countries through its 120 odd foreign tours.
At the time the circus was born it had no more than dozens of acrobats. But it has developed to be an organization for acrobatic creation and performance, staffed with hundreds of acrobats and creators.
In this period it put on stage nearly 1,000 works including body and animal acrobatics, circus on ice and synchronized swimming, magic and interlude.
Many works were appreciated as excellent ones at over 30 international acrobatic and magic festivals.
Known worldwide are aerial stunts "flying girls", "three-stage trapezs flight" and other acrobatic pieces and magic works presented by Kim Thaek Song and Jong Ae Sim who earned fame as twice magic king and magic queen of the world respectively.
The circus has produced dozens of holders of honorary titles including people's artists Pak So Un, Kim Jae Gun and people's actor Kim Thaek Song and his sons people's actors Kim Chol and Kim Kwang Chol, who are jugglers.
The circus is headquartered in the magnificent Pyongyang Circus Theatre in Kwangbok Street, Pyongyang.

South Korean students on hunger strike before White House

pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Students under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils and the south headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification reportedly went on a hunger strike in front of the White House in Washington on August 6, demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. hard-line policy towards the DPRK and pullout of the U.S. troops from South Korea, etc. Representatives of the organizations Tuesday called a press conference at which they said they would continue their hunger strike until August 20.
And they declared that they decided to address an open letter carrying their demand to bush and sent a letter to the U.S. ambassador to South Korea demanding a reply to the letter and an interview.

Anti-Ri Hoe Chang struggle called for

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) on August 7 issued a statement denouncing president Ri Hoe Chang of the Grand National Party for resorting to anti-reunification and anti-people moves against the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration, Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said. According to the statement, Ri, going against the mindset of the people and the trend of the times, is standing desperately opposed to the declaration and its implementation, overheated with frantic anti-north confrontation.
    The statement says:
No sooner had the "south-north agreement" for the opening of the south-north summit talks been published in April last year than Ri obstructed the historic Pyongyang meeting, terming it "new northward wind for general elections" case.
Not content with clamour about "reciprocity," he adamantly opposed inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, claiming that profitless cooperation with the north should be discontinued.
Worse still, Ri went the length of branding the DPRK as "no. 1 enemy" and has become a local agent of the U.S. to praise the bush administration's hardline policy toward the north and the moves to establish missile defense system.
All this eloquently proves that Ri is a vicious anti-reunification element, warmonger and heinous pro-American flunkeyist traitor and most wicked fascist.
The NDFSK central committee, reflecting the unanimous anger and will of all the people, bitterly denounces Ri as a wicked traitor to the nation and vicious enemy of the people with whom the Korean people cannot live under the same sky.
The people from all walks of life should see through the true colors of Ri and turn out in a vigorous nationwide struggle to foil his mucky attempt to seize power and remove his name from the list of the nation before he adds to the disgrace of the nation and bring him to the court of the nation.
The NDFSK will push ahead with a powerful anti-Ri Hoe Chang struggle to bury him in the ditch of history and bring earlier independence, democracy and reunification, the desires of the fellow countrymen.

Gift to Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il received a gift from the Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification. The gift was handed to an official concerned by Martin Lotscher, chairman of the committee, on a visit to the DPRK.

Japanese chief executive's moves to revive militarism condemned

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The Japanese chief executive is getting overheated in his bid to visit the "Yasukuni Shrine" on August 15, the day of the Japanese imperialists' defeat, in defiance of strong protest and denunciation at home and abroad. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today runs a signed commentary, which says: The Japanese chief executive's expression of his intention to pay "heartfelt tribute" to Tojo proves that he worships Tojo and sympathizes with his idea and action consistent with murder and destruction aiming to realise the dream of the "Greater East Asia Coprosperity Sphere".
His deed is an insult to the Asian people who underwent immeasurable misfortunes, pain and sufferings under the Japanese imperialists' aggression and colonial rule and a challenge to those countries which suffered the scourge of war.
His official visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine" is chiefly aimed to imbue the society of Japan with the idea of militarism and reinvasion and call out people to a war of aggression.
He is making it an important mission of his cabinet to arm the people with the idea of militarism, the last process of Japan's preparations for a war.
His bid betrays his ambition to restore the militarist idea of Tojo, who took the lead in the war of aggression for domination over Asia, and to realise the dream of the "Greater East Asia Coprosperity Sphere" that Tojo failed.
It is a suicide action going against the trend of the era to repeat the history of aggression, not drawing a lesson from the historical defeat.

U.S. urged to drop its attempt to isolate and stifle DPRK

pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- It is a foolish dream for the bellicose forces of the United States to try to isolate and stifle the DPRK with strength, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The new U.S. administration is pursuing a hostile policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK in the new century again, the policy which went bankrupt in the 20th century, thus blocking the way of improving the DPRK-U.S. relations and deteriorating the situation.
This policy is clearly evidenced by their clamour about "missile threat." They are desperately working to establish the missile defense system under the pretext of a "missile threat" from the DPRK.
Pressure can never solve any problem.
The DPRK has already clarified its policy toward the U.S. more than once. Its stand is to develop relations with the u.s. on the principle of equality and mutual benefits if the latter recognizes the sovereignty of the former and approaches it with a good will.
If the U.S. is truly interested in peace and security on the Korean peninsula and wishes to develop relations with the DPRK, it should totally renounce its policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK and refrain from threatening the DPRK militarily. furthermore, it should root out the very source of any threat to the DPRK by withdrawing its troops from South Korea.
The U.S. should clearly know the principled stand of the DPRK. If the U.S. approaches the DPRK with a good will it will reciprocate it and if it takes a hard line stand toward the DPRK it will react to it with the toughest stand. This principled stand and mode of counteraction are entirely just. No one has the right to find fault with them.
