Anniversary of repatriation of unconverted long-term prisoners to DPRK marked
Pyongyang, September 2 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate editorials to the first anniversary of unconverted long-term prisoners' return to the DPRK, the socialist homeland. The papers say that the repatriation of 63 unconverted long-term prisoners one year ago was a clear evidence of the greatness of leader Kim Jong Il and a historic event that fully demonstrated the might of the single-hearted unity of the leader, the party and the masses and the advantage of Korean-style socialism of Juche.
Their repatriation was a result of Kim Jong Il's boundless love and comradely obligation to the revolutionary soldiers and his tireless and wise leadership, they say.
Rodong Sinmun says that the last one year the unconverted long-term prisoners spent under the care of the homeland was a year of glory when they deeply felt the honor and pride of being the soldiers of the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader. It was also a year of happiness when they enjoyed genuine human life to their heart's content under the deep solicitude of the party and the leader, it notes, and goes on:
The unconverted long-term prisoners are men of faith and indomitable fighters who kept their pledge to the WPK and the homeland to the last despite the sufferings beyond human imagination.
They remained true to the cause of national reunification with optimism and confidence in its victory.
Indeed, it is the great pride and happiness of the WPK and the nation to have such men of faith and indomitable patriotic fighters.
Minju Joson says that the immortal exploits of Kim Jong Il who realized the group repatriation of the unconverted long-term prisoners will be handed down forever with the history of the nation.

U.S. hard-line policy flailed
Pyongyang, September 2 (KCNA) --It is foolish of the United States to try to stifle the DPRK with its hard-line policy, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
It says:
The U.S. is working hard to isolate the DPRK under the pretext of "military threat" and "missile threat" from the DPRK and "threat" from its conventional forces after terming it "no. 1 enemy." but this is a folly.
The Bush group is in utter ignorance of the stand, strength and will of the DPRK.
The Korean people never allow anyone to infringe upon their national self-respect.
The U.S. drank bitter cups in confrontation with the DPRK in the past.
It was the DPRK which won victory in the Korean War launched by the U.S. imperialists in the 1950s.
In the 1990s, too, the U.S. was defeated in confrontation with the DPRK.
The DPRK reacted to the U.S. frantic nuclear blackmail and war moves with a super hard-line stand. It dealt a heavy blow to the U.S. and its followers by taking such countermeasures for self-defence as withdrawing from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and declaring a semi-war state.
The DPRK defended the dignity of the nation and socialism in this confrontation.
The DPRK has become a powerful country which the U.S. dare not provoke and the U.S. lost its face before the international community.
The U.S. failed in its policy to stifle the DPRK.
When the 20th century was drawing to its end, the Clinton administration, though belatedly, recognized the system in the DPRK and buckled down to the work to improve relations with it.
It is a lesson drawn by the Clinton administration that the U.S. can never stifle the DPRK and such a suffocation policy will place the U.S. in a perilous position.
The Bush administration is well advised to draw a proper lesson from it.
U.S. attempt to set up new military bloc assailed
Pyongyang, September 2 (KCNA) -- The United States is pushing forward with its moves to establish a new "security organization" of military bloc type while strengthening close military cooperation with its allies. in this regard Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says:
It is the U.S. strategic attempt to set up a new "security organization" of NATO type in the Asia-Pacific region and put Asia under its military control with the organization as a lever.
By tightening a military nexus with Japan and South Korea and staging joint military exercises with them the U.S. seeks to strengthen a triangular military alliance and rally other Asian countries around it and thus organize NATO of Asian version.
All U.S. military actions, its moves for the military nexus and bilateral and multilateral joint military exercises in areas around the Korean peninsula and in the Asia-Pacific region are prompted by its strategy of aggression and domination to establish its hegemonism in the region.
The U.S. had once organized a military bloc for aggression in Asia only to dismantle it in face of strong protest and denunciation by Asian countries against it.
The trend of the present times is peace, progress and prosperity, not confrontation and aggravation of tensions.
Anyone who goes against this trend is bound to be forsaken by history.
The U.S. tries to set up a new military bloc in the Asia-Pacific region and put the region under its control with military strength. But it is as foolhardy as trying to revert the trend of history. What is more powerful and mightier than weapon is the strength of the popular masses advancing the history.
The Asian people will never allow the U.S. to frame up a structure of confrontation in the vast Asian continent advancing toward a bright future and bring a black cloud of war to it.
Resumption of north-south dialogue proposed
Pyongyang, September 2 (KCNA) -- Rim Tong Ok, vice-chairman of the DPRK's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, today sent a message to Rim Tong Won, minister of unification of South Korea, proposing to resume north-south dialogue between authorities at an early date.
The historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration is a valuable treasure of the nation which gives impetus to the improvement of north-south relations as a whole and the reunification of the country, the message said, and went on:
The north and south have opened a broad avenue for reconciliation, unity and reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation in the spirit of the joint declaration.
The joint declaration, a landmark of reunification reflecting the desire of the nation, has enjoyed positive support and welcome from people at home and abroad as the days go by and the will of the countrymen to fully carry it out at any cost is getting stronger.
The August 15 grand national festival for reunification recently held in Pyongyang more clearly confirmed this.
The north side, representing the will of all the countrymen, proposes an immediate resumption of north-south dialogue between authorities in the spirit of the joint declaration.
