Anniversary of WPK observed
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- A celebration meeting was held by the crewmen of the Chinese-flagged ship "Mostfar" at the Kim Chaek Port on the east coast of Korea on Oct. 7 on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
At the meeting speakers said that the WPK, guided by the Juche idea which was created by President Kim Il Sung, led the protracted and rigorous Korean revolution along the road of victory and glory.
Under the outstanding and experienced leadership of Kim Jong Il the WPK developed into an ever-victorious iron-willed party in unbreakable unity based on the idea of the leader, they said, adding:
The friendship between the two parties and two peoples is growing stronger day by day under the special intimacy and concern of President Jiang Zemin and leader Kim Jong Il.
Palestinian ambassador hosts reception
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Shaher Mohammed Abdlah, Palestinian ambassador to the DPRK, hosted a reception at the embassy yesterday on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 56th anniversary of the WPK.
At the reception the ambassador said that the friendly Korean people from all walks of life are firmly united around Kim Jong Il who has carried forward the revolutionary cause of President Kim Il Sung and that Kim Jong Il has energetically worked for the prosperity of the Korean nation in the past years.
The Palestinian people and leadership will remain faithful to the bonds of comradely friendship and cooperation with the friendly workers' party and people of Korea, he said, and went on:
The revolutionary and militant friendship between the two countries whose foundation was provided by eternal President Kim Il Sung and his brother President Yasser Arafat, has been further consolidated under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The ambassador expressed the conviction that under his wise and seasoned leadership the Korean people would achieve progress and prosperity and smash plots of the enemies and emerge victorious in all fields.
Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, in his speech said that the Palestinian people are now undauntedly struggling to retake the legitimate national rights of Palestine under the leadership of Yasser Arafat.
The Korean people will invariably support the just struggle of the Palestinian people to found an independent state of Palestine with Kuds as its capital, he noted, and continued:
The workers' party and people of Korea sincerely wish the Palestinian people greater success in accomplishing their just cause.
We are rejoiced over the friendly relations between the two countries developing on good terms in the new century, too. We will cooperate closely with each other to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two peoples.
Films screened
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Films on the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il in their revolutionary activities are now on at cinemas and houses of culture in the capital and local areas on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, the 56th anniversary of the WPK and the 75th anniversary of "Down-With-Imperialism Union."
Among them are documentary films "our people's honour of holding great leader in high esteem," "the 6th congress of the Workers' Party of Korea" and "care shown to make their lives shine" (a serial).
Also screened are feature films depicting the exploits President Kim Il Sung performed in the party building including "a summer at Hwasong Uisuk School" (part 1 and 2), "in those unforgettable days" and "the first party commissioner."
Foreign diplomats visit various places
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The economic and commercial councilor's corps here visited the monument to the party founding and the Pyongyang exhibition of culture, officials in charge of cultural and friendly relations of foreign embassies the OUN revolutionary site in the suburbs of Pyongyang and diplomatic envoys and embassy officials Kwail county in South Hwanghae Province on October 8 on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 56th anniversary of the WPK.
The visitors to the monument to the party founding looked round the towers, round band and stylobate, being briefed on the monument that was built as a historic monument with its characteristics to hand down the great feats of President Kim Il Sung in the cause of Juche-based party building and to demonstrate the high dignity and invincible might of the WPK.
Visiting the OUN revolutionary site where Kim Jong Il guided the military camp training of students during his days of Kim Il Sung University, the guests looked round the OUN revolutionary museum and other historic buildings.
Visiting Kwail county, the guests were briefed on the conversion of the county into a reliable fruit-producing base of the country and were moved to see the vast orchard.
They went to see the production processes of the Phungchon Fruit-Processing Factory.
Floral basket to WPK from CPC
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- A floral basket came to the c.c., the Workers' Party of Korea from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the WPK.
It was handed to an official concerned by Wang Guozhang, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, today.
DPRK players place first in Asian roller skating championships
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- DPRK players came first in the men's roller hockey event of the 9th Asian roller skating championships.
They trounced all rivals with a sweeping lead in scores by mounting hot attacks based on diverse tactics.
A prize for the best player was awarded to Pak Ki Bom.
Jangsusan resort
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Mt. Jangsu has recently turned into a public resort in the DPRK. Working people and young builders in Jaeryong county, South Hwanghae Province did a lot of work in a matter of a little over three years. They removed millions of cubic metres of earth and built over 20,000 meter of road and mountaineering course.
They built rest homes, hotel, Jangsu pavilion and dwelling houses of modern and national architectural styles in every valley to match its beautiful landscape.
At least 20 beauty spots such as a pond, Sonnyo Lake (fairy girls' lake) and Jangsu spring were unearthed and rebuilt. Animal sculptures were also erected to add beauty to its exquisite landscape.
The mountain had been called Mt. Chiak as it abounded in pheasants. But people began calling it Mt. Jangsu because many inhabitants there live long thanks to its beautiful landscape, fresh air and clean water.
The mountain linked with the range of Mt. Myolak stretching from the great Paektu mountain range is 747 meters high. It is standing imposingly like a folding screen at the southern end of the vast Namuri plain in Jaeryong county.
It is called "Mt. Kumgang in South Hwanghae Province" for its myriad shaped cliffs and fantastic valleys.
There are natural monuments such as twelve bends of the mountain and forsythia densiflora on Mt. Jangsu.
There are also the wall of Mt. Jangsu, relics belonging to south Pyongyang of Koguryo, temples and sites of temples.
Paper on revolutionary spirit of soldiers
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- It is the revolutionary spirit of soldiers that represents the driving force in our era, the era when leader Kim Jong Il's army-first leadership is given to all fields, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
It goes on:
The revolutionary spirit of soldiers means the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, devotedly carrying out his instructions and heroic self-sacrificing spirit.
The spirit serves as an ideological and moral source of consolidating our single-hearted unity around leader Kim Jong Il to be unbreakable.

The capitalist exploitation in the era of information industry is mainly characterized by the fact that mental labor is made its main target.
In capitalist countries today most of the material wealth is being created by the mental labor of workers, not by their physical labor, and the capitalists are going in the direction of intensifying the exploitation of the mental labor.
Mental labor and physical labor are different from each other in the wage level in a certain measure but it is too low to compensate for the work force expended. The capitalists tend to steadily increase their share in value by cutting down the wages of the mental workers as low as possible.
Such capital's exploitation of mental labor results in more widening the gap between the rich and the poor.
As mental labor plays rapidly increasing role in social production, the capitalists are getting desperate in their bid to get best brains in and outside their countries, regarding it as a vital need to increase their profits.
Another feature of capitalist exploitation in the era of the information industry is that it is based on the use of information technology.
The capitalists' introduction of it is aimed to rake up more profits. This is the main reason why they are vying with each other to introduce it.
They are steadily heightening the labor intensity of the mental workers in the field of it in a bid to intensify the exploitation of them. And they work hard to increase profits with less mental labor, taking advantage of it's possibility replacing a big portion of labor for the creation of material wealth.
The development of the information industry in the capitalist society only helps intensify capital's exploitation of hired labor and thus will result in further aggravating the class contradiction and confrontation.
DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman on launch of U.S. military operation
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK today answered the following question put by KCNA as regards the U.S. launch of its military operation in retaliation against the large-scale terrorist attacks.
The U.S. proclaimed what it calls "military retaliation" after the large-scale terrorist attacks on the U.S. and has made its preparations in every way. On October 8 it launched a military operation against Afghanistan.
As a consequence, the world faces another war.
As already clarified, it is the principled stand of the DPRK to oppose all forms of terrorism and any support to it and so the DPRK has been consistently opposed to terrorism.
The DPRK's opposition to terrorism is aimed to promote global peace and stability and defend the sovereignty of the country and nation and protect the safety of the people and their properties.
The method of combating terrorism should be in full accord with such purpose in any case. The use of armed forces or a war to kill innocent people and aggravate regional situation and disturb regional stability contrary to the purpose can not be justified under any circumstances.
We hold that the action of the U.S. should not be a source of vicious circle of terrorism and retaliation that may plunge the world into the holocaust of war.
The DPRK has so far done what it is obliged to do to combat terrorism. The U.S., however, has pursued a hostile policy toward the DPRK, still keeping it on the list of "sponsors of terrorism" under an unreasonable pretext.
Under this situation the DPRK is following the situation with vigilance.
The DPRK is proud that it has increased its national defence capabilities of its own choice in every way no matter what others may say.
The DPRK will closely watch the developments in full readiness to cope with any case.
Secretary general of CILRECO arrives
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Guy Dupre, secretary general of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea (CILRECO), arrived here today.
He was greeted at the airport by Pak Kyong Son, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Senior DPRK officials meet new Russian ambassador
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Premier of the DPRK cabinet Hong Song Nam and vice-president of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK Yang Hyong Sop today respectively met and conversed with new Russian ambassador e. p. to the DPRK Andrei Karlov who paid a courtesy call on them at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
