Congratulatory message to Kim Jong Il from C.C., NDFSK
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- A congratulatory message came to leader Kim Jong Il from the central committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea on Oct. 8 on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The message said that Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the WPK was a great event of historic significance in strengthening the glorious WPK founded and led by President Kim Il Sung, achieving national reunification and leading global independence.
Kim Jong Il has protected the destiny of the country and the nation by breaking through the most rigorous ordeals in the last century with his iron will and matchlessly great pluck and made it possible for the history of the WPK to eternally shine as the history of Kim Il Sung, it noted, and continued: this is the great immortal feat to be specially recorded in the history of the international communist movement that can be performed only by Kim Jong Il, the supreme incarnation of the noble morality and sense of obligation.
Kim Jong Il set out an original army-first idea and has smashed the imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK, thus ushering in a new era of a rich and powerful nation, the new history of the army-first era, the first of its kind in the history of world politics.
Noting that Kim Jong Il made a great history of great national unity with his patriotic all-embracing politics and has led global independence to victory through his dynamic external activities, the message stressed that the WPK led by Kim Jong Il is a symbol of victory, glory, happiness and prosperity and a great banner of certain victory.
The message said: The vanguard fighters of the NDFSK and patriotic people from all walks of life in South Korea will vigorously accelerate the great march for reunification under the uplifted banner of national independence and great national unity to implement the historic June 15 joint declaration provided by Kim Jong Il and thus bring earlier new morning of national reunification.
Anniversary of WPK observed
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Meetings were held by the International United Confederation of Koreans, the United Confederation of Koreans in the Uzbek Republic and the General Association of Koreans in China on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Reporters and speakers at the meetings said that the WPK founded by President Kim Il Sung is an organizer and guide of all victories and the Korean people have made great successes in the building of a powerful socialist nation true to leader Kim Jong Il's army-first revolutionary line.
They called upon all the Koreans to actively turn out in the drive for achieving national reunification and building a powerful nation.
A similar meeting of Koreans in China took place.
Letters to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the meetings held in China.
Evening galas of youth and students held
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Evening galas of youth and students were held in Pyongyang and local areas to celebrate the 56th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Evening galas were held before the monument to party founding, the Tower of the Juche Idea, the April 25 House of Culture, the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium and other places of Pyongyang.
The participants danced to the tune of songs of leader Kim Jong Il and the great WPK.
Similar events took place in provinces, cities and counties including Sinuiju, Nampho and Wonsan.
Promising Taekwon-do player
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Pu Song Min, 16, is a promising Taekwon-do player of the Taekwon-do group of the Korean Taekwon-do committee.
He is a merited sportsman.
He bagged three gold medals in the 12th World Taekwon-do Championships held in Italy in July, thus greatly helping the Korean players place first in total points.
He is characterized by agility and accurate strike.
He is recognized as a "matchless player" and "invincible player" in the world Taekwon-do circles.
He began playing Taekwon-do when he was 8 years old.
He carried off nearly 40 gold medals and many other medals in several national and international championships and international contests.
He won 6 gold medals and a "prize for the best player" (technical prize) in the 5th world junior Taekwon-do championships held in August 2000.

Office and library of Nepalese youth society opened
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The office and library of the Nepalese youth society for the study of self-reliance were opened in Kathmandu, Nepal, on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The office and library have famous works of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, Korean books and computers which are used for the study and activities of members of the society and other followers of the Juche idea.
An opening ceremony was held on October 5.
The ceremony was followed by a symposium on the subject of "self-reliance for development of Nepal."
The speaker of the house of representatives of Nepal in his speech said that Korea proved in practice the validity of self-reliance. The socialism of Korea is invincible as it is led by Kim Jong Il, he stressed.
The chairman of the Nepalese national committee for remembering the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung in his speech said that developing countries should learn the spirit of self-reliance and experience of Korea in order to defend national sovereignty and dignity and achieve genuine socio-economic progress and prosperity.
A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the symposium.
Kim Yong Chun meets new Russian ambassador
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Chun, chief of the general staff of the Korean People's Army, met and had a talk with newly appointed Russian ambassador e.p. to the DPRK Andrei Karlov who paid a courtesy call on him today.
Present there were generals and officers of the KPA and the military attache of the Russian embassy here.
SPA chairman meets new Mongolian ambassador
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Choe Thae Bok, chairman of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a talk with Janchivdorjyn Lombo, new Mongolian ambassador e.p. to the DPRK who paid a courtesy call on him, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
Kim Ki Nam meets Finnish party delegation
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, met and had a talk with the delegation of the Peace and Socialism-the Communist Workers' Party of Finland headed by its vice-chairman Reijo Katajaranta at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
The head of the delegation said that he was very happy to visit Korea and Korean socialism is sure to emerge victorious.
He noted that he would do his best for friendship between his party and the WPK and between the peoples of Finland and Korea.
