Only way for Korean nation to survive

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- Independence is the only way for the Korean nation to survive and for the country to prosper, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. The imperialists are craftily working to integrate the economic structures of all the countries in the world and put them under their management in a bid to hold a grip on the world economy, the article says, and goes on:
"Assistance" and "cooperation" on their lips are nothing but a lever for their exploitation and plunder of other countries.
They introduce certain machines and equipment and science and technologies into developing countries in a bid to reshape their economic structures to meet their requirements and interests and rake up as big profits as possible.
Big countries look down upon and slight small ones, prompted by their dominationist idea. This is little short of infringing upon their sovereignty.
Countries, though small, should become increasingly assertive in their views and determination and put them into practice.
It is important to apply whatever good and advanced to one's country in conformity with its specific conditions.
It is by no means contrary to the independent stand to introduce something new and advanced in keeping with its actual conditions and make the best use of it.
The realities today call for holding fast to the independent stand and coping with the constantly changing situation on one's own initiative.
The Korean people are taking high national pride in the independent politics pursued by the Workers' Party of Korea and confidently pushing forward the revolution and construction, holding aloft the great banner of Juche, the banner of independence.

Japanese reactionaries' suppression of Chongryon under fire

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- A workers' rally was held at the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Factory yesterday to denounce the Japanese reactionaries for their crackdown upon the central and local headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). Speakers at the rally denounced the Japanese reactionaries' crackdown upon Chongryon as an undisguised criminal move to destroy Chongryon, a dignified organization of overseas citizens of the DPRK, and an outrageous violation of the sovereignty of the DPRK.
If the Japanese authorities persist in their anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon campaign despite the repeated warnings of the DPRK, they will have to pay a very high price and will be entirely to blame for the ensuing consequences.

Japan warned not to act rashly

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement on dec. 5 denouncing the Japanese reactionaries for their political suppression of the general association of Korean residents in Japan (Chongryon). The statement urged them not to act rashly properly understanding the will of the Korean people and nation.
Recalling that the Japanese authorities committed unprecedented fascist actions against Chongryon, the statement said this fact clearly indicates that the Japanese reactionaries' campaign was a deliberate and premeditated suppression committed to serve their despicable political purpose of destroying Chongryon and an intolerable hostile act against the Korean nation.
    It continued:
Japan is brutally suppressing on groundless charges compatriots in Japan, the direct victims of its crimes committed in the past, and Chongryon, the legitimate organization protecting their democratic national rights and interests, instead of redressing them. It is an unpardonable crime of adding to its crimes already committed.
The NDFSK will join all the Korean people in the intensified anti-Japanese struggle to put an end to the Japanese reactionaries' hostile policy toward the Korean nation and their political suppression of Chongryon and certainly force them to apologize and compensate for their crime-woven past.

Japan's suppression of Chongryon criticized

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- The Korean religious believers council and the central committee of the Korean Buddhist Federation respectively released statements denouncing the Japanese authorities' political suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The statements sternly condemned the Japanese reactionaries' reckless crackdown upon Chongryon as political suppression intended to destroy and stamp out dignified Chongryon and a frantic infringement on the sovereignty of the DPRK.
The Japanese authorities are under a legal obligation to guarantee by law the activities of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, the biggest victims of their past illegal colonial rule over Korea, and respect their democratic national rights, the statements said, and stressed:
Lurking behind the Japanese reactionaries' suppression of Chongryon is a criminal purpose to undermine Chongryon and, furthermore, defame the high international authority of the DPRK.
The statements urged the Japanese authorities to stop the political crackdown upon Chongryon at once, promptly apologize to the Korean people for their criminal acts and immediately release all the unreasonably arrested Koreans.
The statements expressed expectation and conviction that justice- and peace-loving progressive religionists and Buddhists in Japan and the world would condemn the Japanese reactionaries' fascist outrage and extend positive support to Chongryon in its just struggle to defend democratic national rights.

Abolition of "security law" demanded

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- The reunification solidarity for the implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and peace on the Korean peninsula and the people's solidarity for abolition of the "security law" reportedly made public a press release on Nov. 30, demanding the abolition of the "SL" and the withdrawal of the labeling of the national alliance for the country's reunification (Pomminryon) and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) as "enemy-benefiting organizations." The organizations noted that genuine civil rights, true democracy and substantial national reconciliation and reunification can never be expected without abolition of the "SL."
They urged the authorities to discard the standpoint of regarding Pomminryon and Hanchongryon as "enemy-benefiting organizations" and take the road of national reunification hand in hand with all the non-governmental forces of the reunification movement.
They said that they would set a week of human rights from December 1 to 10 and wage a concentric struggle for abolition of the "SL" and the withdrawal of the labeling of Pomminryon and Hanchongryon as "enemy-benefiting organizations" in this period.
They noted that neither suppression by the authorities nor obstructive maneuvers of the conservative forces of the cold war can check the struggle for abolition of the "SL."

Japanese reactionaries urged to stop crackdown upon Chongryon

Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- Overseas compatriots' organizations criticized the Japanese authorities for their political suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The United Confederation of Koreans in the Uzbek republic in a statement on December 1 denounced the Japanese authorities' search of the central headquarters and Tokyo metropolitan headquarters of Chongryon as an outrageous act with no legal basis, patent political suppression of Chongryon and, furthermore, hostile action against the DPRK.
Extending full support to the compatriots in Japan in their just struggle, the statement called on the international community and the entire progressive humankind to express solidarity with them.
The council of Korean national movement organizations in the U.S. in a statement on Nov. 30 said that it is well known to the world that Japan is now in the grip of crisis caused by mass unemployment and the danger of economic bankruptcy. The Japanese government, upset by it, is trying to make a victim of innocent compatriots of Chongryon in a bid to get rid of the impending bankruptcy.
If the Japanese government does not stop suppression of compatriots of Chongryon, it should be wholly responsible for all consequences.

Meeting of Koreans in Japan condemns political suppression of Chongryon

Tokyo, December 5 (KNS-KCNA) -- A meeting of Korean residents in Japan was held in Tokyo on Dec. 5 to denounce the Japanese investigation authorities' unreasonable political suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). So Man Sul, chairman of the central standing committee of Chongryon, said in his report that the high-handed investigation committed by the Japanese investigation authorities into Chongryon was political suppression perpetrated to serve their sinister purpose and an intentional plot hatched against Chongryon.
Chongryon has conducted legitimate activities in line with the Japanese laws over the last half century despite harsh persecution and national discrimination and has done nothing contrary to those laws even in transactions with the credit associations of the Korean bank, he noted, urging the Japanese investigation authorities to stop at once the political suppression and unconditionally and immediately release the unreasonably arrested people.
He called upon the compatriots in Japan to defend their national dignity and democratic national rights rallied close around the DPRK, and single-heartedly work hard for the growth and development of Chongryon.
At the meeting, Shigeru Tokoi, lawyer who is heading the group of lawyers defending the national rights of the Koreans in Japan, made a report on the truth about the search and Tetsuo Kaneko, member of the Japanese house of representatives and permanent secretary of the central headquarters of the social democratic party who is also chairman of the citizens committee for peace, made a speech.
Noting that the high-handed search of Chongryon and the arrest of a Chongryon official were a grave violation of human rights, they declared that they would make every effort to protect all the rights of the Koreans in Japan and open diplomatic relations between Japan and the DPRK.
The floor was also taken by compatriots.
A letter to leader Kim Jong Il was adopted.
The letter said that support expressed to Chongryon by the homeland including the statements issued by the spokesman of the DPRK Foreign Ministry and various organizations condemning the Japanese authorities' criminal actions, and solidarity voiced by overseas compatriots and their voices denouncing the authorities deepened the conviction of the Koreans in Japan that Kim Jong Il is always with Chongryon and there is the powerful homeland for them and boundlessly encouraged them in their struggle.
The letter noted that although the officials of Chongryon and compatriots are facing the most rigorous trials and difficulties since its formation, they would carry on their struggle to defend Chongryon to the last, regarding the words of Kim Jong Il "trial is temporary but victory is everlasting" as the banner of the struggle and the truth of victory.
The meeting decided to form a protest group and thrust letters of protest to the Japanese government and the Tokyo metropolitan police office.
