U.S. espionage flights against DPRK under fire
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists committed more than 150 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK in January, according to military sources.
Involved in the espionage were u-2 high-altitude strategic reconnaissance plane, EP-3 special operation plane, E-3 commanding plane, RC-12 and RC-7 tactical reconnaissance planes and EH-60 electronic warfare helicopters.
On Jan. 29 they sent more than 100 fighter bombers, pursuit and assault planes, transport and reconnaissance planes to the sky above Tanyang, Wonju and Phyongchang and on Jan. 16 and 24 they sent each day more than 150 fighter planes to the sky above Chunchon, Kaphyong, Ryoju and other areas of South Korea to stage war exercises.
Such espionage flights and war exercises clearly prove that the U.S. imperialists are working hard to achieve their aggressive design any time as soon as they conclude their "war against terrorism" in Afghanistan after designating the DPRK as the main target of their next operation.
U.S. urged to pay for damage
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- The committee for unveiling truth about the Rogun-ri massacre said on Jan. 26 that it would bring the Rogun-ri mass killings to the U.N. commission on human rights and strongly demand the U.S. make an apology and compensation for the damage, according to the South Korean newspaper Munhwa Ilbo.
This organization urged the u.s. to make an overall reinvestigation and compensation for the damage as BBC confirmed the fact that the mass killings were organized crimes committed by orders.
The U.S. forces indiscriminately massacred civilians in Rogun-ri, Yongdong county, north Chungchong Province, in the 1950 Korean War.
The committee held that although the U.S. tried to describe the Rogun-ri mass killings as an "accidental case" the video tape on which what GIs testified to the orders issued to kill civilians is recorded categorically negated it, adding that "mass killings of civilians were a wanton violation of the convention on war".
Remarks of "GNP" president condemned
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the "national alliance for democracy and reunification" in South Korea reportedly released a statement on Jan. 26 as regards the remarks made by Ri Hoe Chang, president of the "Grand National Party", during his tour of the united states.
Under the title "Is Ri Hoe Chang a servant of the U.S.?" The statement said Ri did not bother to utter words aimed at wrecking peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and perpetuating national division. This is an anti-national act, it said, and went on:
Meanwhile, with bush's junket to South Korea at hand, he clamoured about "reciprocity" and "verification" of the DPRK. It is typical sycophancy and treachery intended to hurt the fellow countrymen with the help of outsiders.
He fully reveals his ambition to become "president" by courting the U.S. hardliners' support. This is an expression of the willingness to fawn on the U.S. and unhesitatingly work as its servant to seize power, clean indifferent to the interests of the nation.
What is more intolerable is that even during his foreign tour he expressed his persistent opposition to the June 15 joint declaration, the statement said, adding:
Ri Hoe Chang should stop letting loose such remarks against national interests at once and make an honest apology to the nation.
Fullest play to noble revolutionary trait called for
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries an editorial on the noble revolutionary trait of the Korean people single-heartedly united around leader Kim Jong Il.
It says:
Our society is a large family that holds Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the father and enjoys the ties of kinship between the army and the people.
Ours is the most solid, vital, promising and invincible society where the great idea and spirit and noble revolutionary morality prevail.
The whole army and all the people in the DPRK have held and followed him in high esteem as the great father and displayed total dedication in putting his purpose and intention into practice. This is the trait prevailing throughout the society and all the people, united with each other on the basis of the noble sense of revolutionary obligation and warm comradeship, are devoting all their wisdom and energies to the building of a powerful nation.
The hearts of our soldiers and people are filled with pure conscience and sense of obligation to give only greater pleasure and satisfaction to him, trusting and following him as their sun and their father.
The idea and intention of the army are identical to those of the people in holding the supreme commander in high esteem.
That is why the revolutionary and militant trait and way of life of the Korean people's army prevail in our society and everyone lives and struggles as required by new morality and culture, emotion and optimism in the era of army-based policy.
The relations of comradeship and sense of obligation among people have reached the highest level in our society in the days of stern trial.
The imperialists are resorting to vicious moves for military aggression and economic blockade and working hard to debase the Korean people spiritually and morally with corrupt idea and culture, but our society remains unfazed.
U.S. germ warfare denounced
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Public figures of different countries denounced the germ warfare conducted by the U.S. in Korea.
The U.S. imperialists began using germ weapons in Korea while fleeing from the temporarily occupied areas in the winter of 1950, the early period of the Korean War.
They killed many Koreans by indiscriminately dropping insects containing all sorts of epidemic bacteria all over the northern half of Korea on over 800 occasions from January 1952.
Angel Castro Lavarello, chairman of the Peru-Korea Institute of Culture and Friendship, in a statement said that these atrocities were objectively proved on the spot by the fact-finding group of the international democratic lawyers association, the international scientific and investigation groups and confirmed by the testimonies made by POWs of the U.S. forces who participated in this warfare.
This notwithstanding, the U.S. has not yet admitted this barbarism though a half century has passed since then. It is working hard to bring again holocaust to the peoples in Korea and the rest of the world after massively stockpiling all types of biological and chemical weapons enough to exterminate humankind tens of times, he noted.
Helmut Heid Weger, chief of the group for the study of the Juche idea of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in Vienna, Austria, in a statement said that the germ warfare committed by the U.S. in the Korean War was mass killings of peace-loving civilians unprecedented in history as they were deliberately perpetrated by the order of the U.S. brasshats at that time.
The U.S. is well advised to officially admit its biological and chemical warfare in Korea, make an apology to the Korean people and immediately eliminate all nuclear, biological and chemical weapons stockpiled in South Korea and its mainland, he stressed.
Attempt to conclude S. Korea-U.S. "agreement on investment" condemned
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- The people's action against the world trade organization in South Korea reportedly issued a statement on January 28 in protest against an attempt of the authorities to conclude a South Korea-U.S. "agreement on investment."
The statement said that the "agreement" which the authorities try to conclude during bush's trip to South Korea is, in essence, aimed at ensuring free investment of the U.S. capital.
The authorities' propaganda that the South Korean economy can be recovered through the investment of foreign capital is a lie to falsify the reality and keep people blindfolded and this will only result in selling key industries at cheap prices and opening stock markets and thereby putting the economy into a chaos of constant instability, it noted, and went on:
The action threatened to put up a stubborn struggle against the authorities keen to accelerate neo-liberal restructuring through the signing of the "agreement."
Doctor of paleontology Kwon Jong Rim
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Dr. Kwon Jong Rim is a renowned woman paleontologist in the DPRK. She has been engaged in the study of extinct animals and plants for nearly 40 years.
In this period she discovered hundreds of species of fossil plants (ten odd species of worldwide significance included).
By deepening researches into them, she established and systematized strata of the tertiary formation. And she set the paleontological standard decisive of the geological times of the tertiary formation in the country after classifying the development of ancient plant community into eight courses.
She also clarified the relationship between the tertiary and the contemporary plant communities, thus providing geo-historical preconditions needed for improving the forests of the present times under a long-term plan.
One of her feats is that she found out paleoclimatic conditions through researches into fossil plants in the layer of bituminous coal seams in the country including coal beds in Anju to open a vista for coal prospecting.
She presented valuable papers such as "contrast between the tertiary plant community and the layer with coal seams in our country" and "the history of development of the cenozoic plant community and its relationship with the contemporary plant community in our country".
In this course she received the title of doctor in October 1999.
Kwon was born in Seoul in January Juche 30 (1941) and came to the north during the Korean War.
She graduated from Kim Chaek University of Technology in march 1963 and has so far worked as a member of the central mineral survey group, while training several doctors and masters of paleontology.

Silk output on upbeat
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- According to historical records, silkworm breeding dates back to ancient times in Korea, and Korean ancestors relied on the silk road in conducting political, cultural and economic exchange with foreign countries.
The age-old tradition of silkworm breeding and silk production has been handed down through the centuries, and today Jagang Province in northwestern Korea leads the inheritance.
In this "province of sericulture," the Huichon silk mill is the centre of cocoon and silk production.
Since its inauguration in September 1988, the mill has maintained a high level of output, to the great benefit of the people's living standards. Its silk fabrics, soft to the touch and vivid in colour, are produced under the brand "CCR", well-known in neighbouring countries and on the international market.
Experts attribute the high quality of this brand to the age-old fame of the local cocoons and pure water. In this province of rolling mountains and steep ravines, the water is ideal for silkworm breeding and cocoon production.
The province was selected as a base for sericulture after a government decision to localize and specialize agricultural output, and the province has since made tangible progress in the cultivation of mulberry trees and cocoon production. In particular, the proportion of good-quality cocoons has shown a considerable increase.
The mill's major outputs of raw silk and by-products are widely available for consumption.
It employs up-to-date production processes from cocoon sorting to silk reeling, and runs an effective transportation system to bring the cocoons from suppliers.
The Huichon silk mill is now concentrating on greater efficiency and technical upgrading, as required by the torch of Ranam.
