U.S. germ and chemical warfare denounced

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- Round-table talks were held at the Pyongyang International House of Culture on March 12 to condemn the barbaric germ and chemical warfare committed by the U.S. imperialists. Attending there were researchers of the academy of medical science of the DPRK and members of the group for probing the truth behind GIs' crimes.
Professor and doctor Kim Song Jung recalled that during the Korean War the U.S. imperialist aggressors dropped a lot of germ bombs across the country including South Phyongan and Kangwon provinces, killing many Koreans, and cited concrete facts to prove the truth about the barbaric germ warfare committed by the U.S. troops.
Academician, professor and doctor Kim Rak Je and professor and doctor Hyon Chang Bu disclosed the fact that the U.S. troops used chemical weapons, suffocating and poisoning innocent civilians to death, and urged the U.S. to make an apology and compensation to the Korean people for the crimes committed in wanton violation of the international law.
Underscoring the need to roundly expose the monstrous germ and chemical warfares committed by the U.S. troops in Korea, they expressed hope that members of the investigation group would let the Americans as well as other people of the world know about GIs' crimes and bitterly denounce them.
Brian Willson, head of the group and representative of the "veterans' organization for peace" of the U.S., said he could not but be stunned at the barbaric biological and chemical warfares committed by GIs, adding that these crimes should be known to the world.
He underlined the need to set up a new international tribunal to try GIs' crimes and make the testimonies made today be known to the public.

Halt to joint military exercises demanded

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The South Korean organizations denounced the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean authorities for planning to hold large-scale joint military exercises from March 21. A spokesman for the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils in a commentary on March 9 said that the "reception, staging, onward-movement and integration exercise", a codename changed from the ill-famed "team spirit" joint military exercise, has been held since 1994 and it is characterized by the fact that it is staged under the simulated conditions of the "early stage of war." He noted that the "foal eagle" exercise, an annual field mobile exercise, is of offensive nature.
    The commentary said:
The projected large-scale joint military exercises only reveal the intention of the U.S. to unleash a war on the Korean Peninsula at any cost.
The two large-scale maneuvers for an actual war now under preparation on the Korean Peninsula where the situation has grown tense due to Bush's remarks about the "axis of evil" totally run counter to the basic spirit of the DPRK-U.S. agreements and not only mar the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration but seriously spoil the atmosphere of the reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. should immediately cancel the projected military exercises, recognize the basic spirit of the DPRK-U.S. agreed framework and the DPRK-U.S. joint communique and start the DPRK-U.S. dialogue for global peace.
The North Chungchong Provincial Federation of University Student Councils in a statement on march 11 held that the two joint military exercises slated to take place simultaneously suggest a clear revival of the past "team spirit" joint military exercise which had driven the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the pitch of tension.

39th anniversary of March 8 Revolution in Syria marked

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- A meeting was sponsored by the Korea-Syria Friendship Association and the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries in Pyongyang yesterday on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the March 8 Revolution in Syria. Present on invitation were Syrian charge d'affaires Haissam Saad and embassy staff members, Syrian students and guests in the DPRK.
Present there were Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, Jon Kuk Man, vice-minister of education who is vice-chairman of the Korea-Syria Friendship Association, officials concerned and working people in the city.
Speeches were exchanged at the meeting.
A congratulatory letter to the Syrian President was adopted at the meeting.

Projected U.S.-S. Korea joint military exercises under fire

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S.-South Korea "combined forces command" recently announced that it would stage two joint military exercises called "reception, staging, onward movement and integration exercise" and "foal eagle" from March 21 to 27. In this regard, papers here today in signed commentaries observe that the projected joint exercises are, in fact, operations aimed at a full-scale attack on the DPRK.
Through various forms of joint military exercises to be staged under the unified command the domestic and foreign warmongers seek to finally complete their preparations for a war and get fully ready to go into actions against the DPRK at any time, says Rodong Sinmun.
    It continues:
The announcement of this plan came right after the South Korea visit of Bush, warmonger who was busy fanning up confrontation with the DPRK, and war hysteria, clamouring about the "axis of evil". This is an outright challenge to the DPRK and a premeditated provocation to it. It is little short of a declaration of war.
The projected joint military exercise, a replica of "team spirit" joint military exercise, a test nuclear war, which had to be suspended for being targeted against the DPRK, is prelude to a very dangerous war of aggression aimed to plunge the Korean nation into a scourge of a nuclear war.
The reality goes to more clearly prove that "dialogue" called for by the U.S. is a sheer lie, the U.S. imperialists' policy of aggression against the DPRK has reached a stage of its reckless implementation and their wild design to stifle the DPRK by force of arms remains unchanged.
The army and people of Korea are following with high vigilance the adventurous moves of the domestic and foreign enemies keen to ignite a war of aggression against the DPRK.
Minju Joson says that the U.S. is grossly mistaken if it thinks it can bring the Korean people to their knees by force of arms. If the U.S. imperialists finally opts for military confrontation with the DPRK despite Korean and foreign public's unanimous protest and denunciation, they will face only a bitter defeat and death, it warns.

KCNA on U.S. reckless nuclear war scenario

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- the bush administration reportedly ordered the defense department to work out an emergency plan to use nuclear weapons against at least seven countries and manufacture small nukes for this. A confidential report of the defense department submitted to the congress on January 8 according to the scenario points to the nuclear attack on the DPRK and six other countries and to the three circumstances where nuclear weapons can be used.
The report signed by U.S. defense secretary Rumsfeld is reportedly used by the U.S. strategic command in preparing the scenario.
This indicates that the bush administration is working in real earnest to prepare a dangerous nuclear war to bring nuclear disasters to our planet and humankind.
This fact testifies to the fact that it is by no means accidental that the U.S. hardline hawkish groups have become all the more undisguised in their belligerent moves to resume the cold war before and after the emergence of the bush administration. The U.S. nuclear war scenario is an inhuman plan to spark a global nuclear arms race and bring the political and military situation in the world including the Korean peninsula to an extreme pitch of tension as it is a grave challenge to the peace and stability of humankind.
It is a well-known fact that the U.S. nuclear blackmail policy has been one of the basic principles to govern the cold war policy the united states has pursued for over half a century since it developed A-bombs in the middle of the 20th century and used them against Japan that was close to its defeat in the second world war, for the first time in history.
However, the successive U.S. administrations, taking into consideration the world public opinion, have stressed that the U.S. nuclear weapons are a war deterrent force while advocating their nuclear policy.
In the current report the Bush administration made a policy switchover from its criminal plan to make a nuclear strike on any target of specific countries anytime according to its unilateral judgement to a "realistic" policy, free from the past cumbersome diplomatic commitments to nuclear weapons.
The DPRK will not remain a passive onlooker to the Bush administration's inclusion of the DPRK in the seven countries, targets of U.S. nuclear attack, but take a strong countermeasure against it.
The present political and military situation where the U.S. is openly threatening the DPRK with nuclear weapons proves once again how just it was when it exerted tremendous efforts to increase its capacity for self-defence.
If the U.S. intends to mount a nuclear attack on any part of the DPRK just as it did on Hiroshima, it is grossly mistaken.
A nuclear war to be imposed by the U.S. nuclear fanatics upon the DPRK would mean their ruin in nuclear disaster.

GNP dubbed fascist group

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace on the Korean Peninsula reportedly issued a statement on march 6 branding the "Grand National Party" (GNP) as an ultra-right fascist group. On February 27 "national assemblymen" from the GNP and the united liberal democrats at an "evening of supporters" held on the subject of "inauguration of conservatives" cried out for anti-reunification and anti-DPRK confrontation.
The statement said that their remarks that "the conservative forces should retake hegemony" were reminiscent of a madcap function to vow "loyalty" to the U.S. keen to stem the trend of the times toward the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration.
The reality goes to clearly prove that they are most wicked hooligans who stoop to any infamy to come to power, the statement said.

Anti-U.S. rally in Seoul

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- South Korean workers, citizens and students reportedly held a "solidarity rally of the capital area opposing the establishment of new U.S. military bases, the expansion of bases and the payment of expenses for shift and urging the return of the U.S. troops' bases" in Ryongsan, Seoul on March 9. The rally was co-sponsored by the headquarters of the movement for the return of the U.S. troops' base in Ryongsan and the "meeting of the capital area for measures for joint counteraction against the joint land management plan" with the approach of talks to follow up the "joint land management plan" (jlmp) to be held on March 15.
A resolution released at the rally said that the bush administration is shifting the focus of its military strategy from Europe to northeast Asia and, accordingly, reexamining the deployment of U.S. troops in Asia overall and that the jlmp is being pushed ahead as part of it.
Recalling that the U.S. military openly revealed its intention for the permanent presence of U.S. troops by attaching various conditions to the shift of their base in Ryongsan last year, the resolution expressed the will to stir up the anti-U.S. sentiment to realize the total return of the U.S. troops' bases.
The resolution said that the timetable for the total return of the bases should be specified at the talks to follow up the jlmp.

Bush's reckless remarks condemned abroad

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The permanent secretariat of the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization issued a statement on March 6 condemning bush for making reckless remarks against the DPRK during his Asia tour. The statement said that his remarks, in essence, came out of his constitutional discontent with the political system of the DPRK, as commented by the world public, not because of some "weapons" or "terrorism".
His remarks are a defilement upon the national feelings of the Korean people and little short of a declaration denying the dialogue with the DPRK, the statement said, expressing support and solidarity with the Korean people's efforts to defend the sovereignty of the country and achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

The festival this year is drawing particular interest of the sportspersons and sports fans as it opened on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary.
Participants in the festival are competing in football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, calisthenics, swimming, synchronized swimming, shooting, archery, speed skating, ice hockey, Korean wrestling, go, bowling, and other events now under way in Pyongyang, Nampho, Wonsan, Hamhung Jongju and other parts of the country.

President Kim Il Sung and Pyongyang

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang is the historic sacred place inseparably linked with the revolutionary life of President Kim Il Sung. He was born in Mangyongdae in Pyongyang on April 15, 1912, when the destiny of the nation was at stake owing to the Japanese imperialists' military occupation of Korea.
He embarked on the road of the revolution in his teens and liberated the country from the yoke of the Japanese imperialists through 20-year-long bloody battles. It was in Pyongyang that he made his first speech upon his triumphal return home.
Pyongyang is an operational base for the revolution where he mapped out all the lines and policies and led the Korean revolution and the human cause of independence.
He authored and published many famous works here in his lifetime and met hundreds of political party, state and government leaders and many personages from different countries to give precious teachings on the human cause of independence.
He radically changed the appearance of Pyongyang as befitting the capital city of new Korea. He initiated the project for the Pothong River improvement right after the liberation of the country, broke ground to signal the start of the project at the ground-breaking ceremony on May 21, Juche 35 (1946) and made a new history of the construction of Pyongyang. He wisely led the construction in the capital as the chairman of the Pyongyang municipal reconstruction committee in the postwar period.
Every street and building in over 40 major avenues in Pyongyang is associated with his immortal feats.
The president's statues historic monuments, monuments to dedicated poems and other monuments standing in different parts of Pyongyang hand his feats down to posterity.
The president lies in state for perpetuity in the Kumsusan Memorial Palace built as the impeccable supreme temple of Juche. He is immortal along with ever-prospering Pyongyang.

Singer of high repute

She joined the prestigious Phibada Opera Troupe in January 1980. She fully acquired qualification as a singer, while acting as a researcher of a music school and a postgraduate of the genius class of the university even after joining the troupe.
She successfully led choruses and presented the women's trio and the mixed duet in a series of performances including music and dance epic "Song of Glory" and "Song of Best Wishes," thus contributing to increasing their ideological and artistic value.
The role of mother, the heroine in the revolutionary opera "sea of blood" and the role of the wife, the heroine in the opera "Sea of Love" admirably played by her deeply impressed the audiences.
She truthfully represented the theme songs of the revolutionary film "forest sways", parts on Choe Hyon, the working class and writers of the CAPF of the multi-part feature film "the nation and destiny," etc.
She made performance tours of various countries as member of an art troupe, showing well a glimpse of the Korean arts that greeted the renaissance in the 20th century.
And she received a special prize in the 33rd international vocal concours held in Toulouse, France in October 1987.
She became merited artiste in 1987 and people's artiste in 1997.

DPRK ready to take countermeasure against U.S. nuclear attack

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The Bush administration reportedly designated the DPRK and six other countries as targets of the U.S. nuclear attack and decided to develop small tactical nuclear weapons to mount a "limited nuclear attack". In this regard a spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry issued a statement today.
    The statement said:
The Bush group's plan for a nuclear attack is a daydream of the reckless persons who do not hesitate to stifle the DPRK even by use of nuclear weapons and, to this end, eliminate the whole Korean nation from the earth by imposing a nuclear disaster upon it.
Under the present situation where nuclear lunatics have taken office in the White House, we are compelled to examine all the agreements with the U.S.
In case the U.S. plan for a nuclear attack on the DPRK turns out to be true, the DPRK will have no option but to take a substantial countermeasure against it, not bound to any DPRK-U.S. agreement.
