Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit no. 823
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il yesterday inspected KPA unit no. 823.
He received a report on the situation from the commander of the unit and acquainted himself in detail with the performance of its duty before watching commanding officers in tactical training.
He expressed great satisfaction with the fact that the commanding officers of the unit, fully armed with the Juche-oriented war methods of our party, are creditably fulfilling their duties and advanced highly important tasks for increasing the combat power of the unit in every way.
Seeing the combat and technical equipment invented by the officers and men of the unit in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, he praised the great successes made by them through a vigorous struggle to implement the WPK's military line for self-defence to the letter and highly appreciated their feats.
Then he looked round the servicemen's hall and logistic facilities and various other places of the unit. He had a photograph taken with officers and men of the unit.
He inspected a sub-unit under the unit that day.
He dropped in at the technical lecture room where he saw soldiers in training. He was greatly satisfied to see all the servicemen trained as indomitable soldiers firmly defending the security of the country and the people.
After looking round an education room, bedroom, mess and other entertainment and logistic facilities, he indicated tasks for improving entertainment and supply service for servicemen and ways for their implementation.
He gave servicemen of the sub-unit a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle as gifts and posed for a picture with them.
6.15 festival to be prepared overseas
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- An inaugural ceremony of an overseas preparatory committee of overseas compatriots' organizations for the June 15 grand festival for national reunification was reportedly held on May 30.
A statement was adopted at the ceremony.
The June 15 Joint Declaration serves as a landmark for national reunification to be maintained by the Korean nation in the new century and a reunification programme which announced at home and abroad that reunification shall be achieved by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation, the statement said.
It declared that delegates from the north and the south and overseas would participate in the festival and strive to carry out their work with credit.
The statement called upon all compatriots to open the way for reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation under the banner of the joint declaration.
Declaration of S. Korean students organization
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The southern Seoul district federation of university student councils reportedly issued a declaration of its 10th-term inauguration on may 28.
In the declaration the federation said that students have long waged a dynamic struggle for independence, democracy and reunification. It would carry out the tasks for complete independence of campus and national reunification without fail this year, the declaration noted, and pointed out:
Youth and students are duty-bound to open a decisive phase of national reunification. the federation will implement it in the van.
Chief of KPA general staff meets Russian military delegation
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA)-- Vice marshal Kim Yong Chun, chief of the general staff of the Korean People's Army met and had a talk in a friendly atmosphere yesterday with the delegation of the far eastern military district of the federal armed forces of Russia led by colonel general Yuri Yakubov, commander of the district.
Present there were colonel general Pak Sung Won and other generals and officers of the KPA and Vladislav Prokopenko, military attache of the Russian embassy here.
British charge d'affaires hosts reception
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- James Edward Hoare, charge d'affaires ad interim of the UK in Pyongyang, hosted a reception on an excursion boat in the River Taedong on June 1 to celebrate the birthday of the queen of the UK (National Day).
Present on invitation were Ri Kwang Gun, minister of foreign trade, Choe Su Hon, vice-minister of foreign affairs, Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is vice-chairman of the DPRK committee for friendship with the British people, Ri Yong Sok, vice-chairman of the DPRK Flood Damage Rehabilitation Committee, and officials concerned and foreign diplomatic envoys, representatives of the international organizations and staff members of embassies here.
Speeches were made at the reception.
Sojourn of ensemble of far eastern military district of Russia
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The delegation and the ensemble of the Far Eastern Military District of the Russian Federal Armed Forces on a visit to the DPRK enjoyed a performance given by the merited choir of the Korean People's Army at the Mansudae Art Theatre on June 1.
Invited to see the performance were members of the delegation led by colonel general Yuri Yakubov, commander of the far eastern military district, and the ensemble, ambassador Andrei Karlov and staff members of the Russian embassy here.
Among the audience were general Pak Jae Gyong, colonel general Pak Sung Won and other generals, officers and soldiers of the KPA.
The performance proceeded amid warm feelings of the DPRK-Russia friendship and was applauded by the audience for its high ideological and artistic value.
A floral basket was conveyed to the performers in congratulation of their successful performance.
The delegation also enjoyed the mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" at the May Day Stadium in the evening.
Messages of greetings exchanged between DPRK and Nigerian FMs
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK Paek Nam Sun exchanged messages of greetings with his Nigerian counterpart Alhaji Sule lAmido on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Paek in his message said that the two countries have steadily strengthened and developed the bilateral relations in various fields in the idea of independence, peace and friendship for the last 26 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Expressing the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to grow stronger in the future, too, the message sincerely wished the Nigerian foreign minister greater success in his work.
The Nigerian foreign minister in his message reaffirmed the will of the government and people of Nigeria to support the government and people of the DPRK determined to independently tackle the issue of reunification without any interference of foreign forces under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il, Seneral Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army.
The message ardently hoped that the excellent bilateral relations would continue to develop onto a higher stage in the common interests of the two countries and the two peoples.
SPA chairman meets Tajik delegation

"Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" vol. 43 published
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House brought out vol. 43 of the "Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works", a library of the Juche idea.
The volume contains 22 works including historic speeches, conclusions, answers and lectures delivered by President Kim Il Sung during the period from march to October Juche 58 (1969).
In this period the Korean people were vigorously striving to occupy the major heights of the 7-year plan and increase defence capacity in hearty response to the revolutionary line of the party on pushing forward the economic construction and defence building simultaneously and a great turn was taking place in the struggle of the world revolutionary people against the U.S. imperialists.
Among the works are "on some tasks of improving party work", "on some theoretical problems of the socialist economy", "on the present situation and some political and military tasks of the people's army" and "progressive journalists of the five continents, wield your powerful revolutionary pen and sternly condemn us imperialism".
Given in the volume are important guidelines in further strengthening the party in conformity with the development of the Korean revolution, stepping up the socialist economic construction and firmly building up defence capacity, and outstanding ideas, theories and policies for strengthening the revolutionary forces of the world.
Kim Jong Il meets with Russian military delegation
Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il today received the visiting delegation of the Far Eastern Military District of the Russian Federal Armed Forces led by col. gen. Yuri Yakubov, commander of the district.
Present on the occasion were Kim Yong Chun, member of the NDC of the DPRK and chief of the general staff of the Korean People's Army, and Andrei Karlov, Russian ambassador to the DPRK.
Leader Kim Jong Il warmly welcomed the delegation to the DPRK and had a cordial talk with the guests.
The head of the delegation expressed heartfelt thanks to him for having invited and specially received it though he was busy travelling for field guidance.
Kim Jong Il hosted a luncheon in honor of the guests.
