World conference on cause of independence in 21st century to be held
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The Sri Lankan organizational committee made public information in Colombo on June 13 as regards the holding of the world conference on the cause of independence in the 21st century.
The information said:
The world conference on the Juche idea on the subject of "The Cause of Independence in the 21st Century" is to be held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall in Colombo from June 19 to 20, 2002, under the co-sponsorship of the International Institute of the Juche Idea in Tokyo, the Committee of Self-Reliance Studies in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Organizational Committee for the World Conference.
The historic task of the times, the cause of independence of the popular masses in every country, the cause of global independence and the issue of further strengthening the activities for them, will be discussed at the conference.
More than 500 figures from many countries including Sri Lankan delegates will participate in the conference.
June 15 North-South Joint Declaration favored by over 180 countries
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The world public positively welcomed and supported the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration in two years since its publication.
Heads of state and government and leaders of political parties and organizations in more than 180 countries expressed support to the joint declaration, saying that the adoption of the joint declaration was a "great event moving the world" and a "bright result of patriotic bold decision of leader Kim Jong Il".
Those countries include Russia, China, Cuba, Syria, Cambodia, Guinea, Togo, Kirgyzstan and Peru.
Over 400 political parties, bodies and regional and international organizations in statements laid stress on the validity and vitality of the joint declaration.
Among them are the party for peace and unity of Russia, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist-Leninist), the workers and peasants struggle party of Madagascar, the Mexican Workers' Party, the Bangladesh-Korea Friendship Association, the Italy-Korea Association for Friendship and Cooperation, the International Institute of the Juche Idea, the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification.
Meetings of international and regional organizations and foreign political parties and organizations voiced support to the joint declaration and called for its implementation, meetings including the un summit meeting of the new millennium, the plenary meeting of the 55th session of the un general assembly, the 15th congress of the international association of democratic lawyers, the meeting of leading officials of the Asian regional organization for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people, the joint meeting of the European regional organization for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people, the international seminar of the world revolutionary parties on the worsening economic crisis caused by the imperialists' "globalization" the ministerial meeting of the coordinating committee of the non-aligned movement, the annual meeting of the Irish Workers' Party.
Mass media in China, Russia, India, Cuba, Guinea, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Egypt and other countries gave prominence to news of the publication of the joint declaration, introduced and propagandized the significance and vitality of the declaration and stressed that the joint declaration was a historic result of the independent politics.
Proposal for reunification by federal formula hailed
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article stresses that the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo initiated by President Kim Il Sung is the most realistic and fair proposal for national reunification.
Referring to the reason why the proposal serves as the most realistic, fair and aboveboard one in which the three principles of national reunification, a reunification programme common to the nation, were applied, the article says:
The proposal for reunification by federal formula, first of all, most correctly and fairly reflects the essence and character of the issue of Korea's reunification, its specific situation and the inter-Korean relations.
According to the proposal, the principle of organizing and composing a federal state is to form a national unified government which is represented by the north and the south on an equal footing and its function is, in the main, to respect and defend the interests of the whole nation. Fairness and equality are embodied in operating the federal state.
The proposal defines all the issues arising in the building of a unified state in full accord with the nation's common desire and wish, not allowing one side to stand at advantage over the other side or meet its own interests or do harm to other side.
The federal formula serves as the best way to most smoothly achieve national reunification independently and peacefully on the principle of great national unity, neither side occupying the other nor being occupied, given that differing ideologies and systems exist in the north and south. Herein lie the realistic, fair and just characters of the proposal for reunification by federal formula.
International book exhibition closes
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang international scientific and technological book exhibition which opened on June 10 closed at the grand people's study house with due ceremony on June 14.
Present at the closing ceremony were acting chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Mun Jae Chol and officials concerned.
Also on hand were representatives of the international organizations and members of foreign delegations.
At the ceremony, diplomas and collective prizes went to the organizations which presented books to the exhibition and souvenirs to them.
Chairman Choe Hui Jong of the DPRK Library Association in a closing address vowed to work hard to make the exhibition a traditional event and increase exchange and cooperation with other countries in science and technology in the idea of independence, peace and friendship and make progress and prosperity common to humankind.
Implementation of June 15 North-South Joint Declaration called for
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Papers here today call for more vigorously turning out in the patriotic struggle to defend and implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration to bring earlier national reunification.
Rodong Sinmun in an editorial says that with the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration a landmark of independent national reunification has been set up in the advance of reunification, an era of the nation-wide movement for reunification opened and the patriotic enthusiasm and will of the whole nation for reunification flared up.
The joint declaration is the banner of justice and criterion of patriotism, the editorial says, and goes on:
Although the domestic and foreign anti-reunification forces' obstructive moves have become more undisguised the joint declaration serves as a detonator hardening the will of the Korean nation for reunification and intensifying the anti-American patriotic advance. The will for reunification and faith of the Korean nation, firmly consolidated by the joint declaration, are the source of strength to pave the way for the victory of reunification and patriotism. The destiny of the nation and the future of the reunification movement rest on defending and implementing the joint declaration.
The main spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration is national independence.
It is the basic requirement of independent reunification to invariably hold fast to the great proposition "by the concerted efforts of the nation" clarified by the declaration in achieving national reunification.
National reconciliation and unity mean national reunification.
The whole nation should unite in the idea of patriotism, placing the common interests of the nation ahead of others.
Minju Joson in an editorial says that the whole Korean nation in the north, south and overseas will surely build an independent, powerful and prosperous reunified country by stepping up the grand march for independent national reunification under the uplifted banner of the historic joint declaration.
U.S. hit for its call for preemptive attack
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The United States is reportedly to give up its strategy on deterrence it worked out allegedly to "combat terrorism" and officially make public a new national security strategy which identifies the preemptive attacks on "hostile groups and states" as its national policy in Autumn.
In this regard Minju Joson today in a signed commentary observes:
The U.S. is insisting in the preemptive attack because it can not clear itself of the threat of terrorism with the containment mode used in the past.
This betrays the true aim of its "anti-terrorism war."
It is going to use the "anti-terrorism war" as an important opportunity of realizing its world supremacy strategy. What it seeks in escalating the war is to strike by force of arms those countries in the areas of strategic vantage and topple anti-imperialist and independent governments and establish the U.S.-led new world order.
The reality clearly proves that the U.S. is a rogue state which does not bother to do such reckless acts of harassing the global peace and security and straining the international situation to the extreme to meet its strategic interests now that the U.S. designated the DPRK as the target of its preemptive attack, no one can vouch when it will open fire against the DPRK.
Clear is that the U.S. insistence on preemptive attack will never work on the DPRK.
The DPRK will keep itself in full combat posture to cope with the U.S. possible preemptive attack. If the U.S. infringes upon its national sovereignty even a bit, the DPRK will mete out deserved retaliation to it.
Kim Il Sung Prize awarded
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly released a decree on awarding Kim Il Sung Prize to the mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" on June 12.

KCNA on U.S. nuclear moves
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Hawkish forces of the U.S. administration were reported to have recently decided to build a factory of producing plutonium fuses for nuclear warheads while staging another subcritical nuclear test.
U.S. resumption of the production of plutonium fuses which was stopped before the end of the Cold War and launching 17th subcritical nuclear test despite the opposition of the international community are a gangster-like criminal act against the security of our planet and the peace of humankind.
The U.S. alleged it decided to resume the manufacture of plutonium fuses after 13 years to secure "security and credibility of nuclear weapons." But its true aim is to materialize the criminal "report on the review of nuclear posture" worked out by the U.S. Defence Department to readjust and reinforce the infrastructure of the production of nuclear weapons.
The keynote of the report is a preemptive nuclear attack, the expansion of targets of attack and the development of new-type nuclear weapons.
To this end the resumption of nuclear test was necessary and the recent test betrayed the U.S. criminal attempt at nuclear war before the international community.
As seen in the "report on the review of nuclear posture" the DPRK is designated as the primary target of the U.S. nuclear weapons and, accordingly, the danger of a nuclear war is nearly coming true on the Korean Peninsula.
The developments go to clearly prove once again the validity of the measure taken by the DPRK to heighten vigilance against the U.S. hawkish forces' policy for war of aggression and steadily increase national capacity for self-defense.
The DPRK will in the future, too, increase its self-reliant defence capability in every way under the uplifted banner of army-based policy unless the U.S. gives up its nuclear threat and hostile policy toward the DPRK.
Agreement signed between governments of DPRK and China
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- An agreement on marine transport was signed between the governments of the DPRK and China in Pyongyang yesterday.
Chief of staff Ra Dong Hui of the Ministry of Land and Marine Transport and vice minister Hu Xijie of the Chinese Ministry of Communications signed the agreement.
Present at the signing ceremony were Kim Yong Il, minister of land and marine transport, officials concerned and members of the delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Communications led by Hu Xijie and Chinese ambassador to the DPRK Wu Donghe.
