Rodong Sinmun on DPRK-Japan dialogue

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Both the DPRK and Japan should make sincere efforts to put dialogue and negotiations on their right orbit for the normalization of the relationship as pointed out in a joint press release on the talks between the foreign ministers of the DPRK and Japan, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. It goes on:
    It is the main points of the joint press release that diplomatic ties should be established between the DPRK and Japan and, to this end, sincere efforts should be made to solve the issue of the settlement of the past and all other issues between the two countries, and the two sides agreed to hold foreign ministry director-level talks within august in order to discuss all the matters related to the establishment of the diplomatic ties and pending issues of mutual concern and to cooperate with each other to ensure that the next round of the talks between red cross organizations of the two countries will be held within august to contribute to the solution of humanitarian issues.
    If the two sides pay attention to such points of the joint press release and pursue negotiations and dialogue from a sound and sincere stand, it is possible to make desired progress in the efforts to improve the DPRK-Japan relations.
    The future DPRK-Japan dialogue and negotiations should not repeat the past failure which brought disappointment to the people at home and abroad.
    It is the consistant stand of the DPRK to make the dialogue and negotiations effective and productive so as to solve all the problems between the DPRK and Japan and improve the bilateral ties.
    The DPRK is ready to make positive efforts to solve the issue of Japan's redress for its past and all matters related to the establishment of the diplomatic ties on the basis of the points on which the foreign ministers of the DPRK and Japan agreed in their talks.
    The two sides should sincerely hold contact and dialogue as pointed out in the joint press release as desired by the people at home and abroad to create an atmosphere of the talks between the DPRK and Japan and open a new phase of improving the relationship.

DPRK athletes prove successful in Asian championships

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Ham Pong Sil of the DPRK came first in the women's 10,000m long distance running in the 14th Asian track and field championships in Colombo on August 10. Jo Pun Hui was the runner-up in the same event.

International signature campaign joined by youth organizations

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Youth organizations of different countries participated in the international signature campaign supporting the June 15 inter-Korean joint declaration and urging the immediate pullout of the U.S. Forces from South Korea. The delegates of youth organizations of India, Colombia, Nepal, Algeria, Brazil, Cyprus, Cuba and Palestine to an enlarged meeting of the coordinating council of the world federation of democratic youth signed the signature paper on behalf of over 13,289, 300 members of the youth organizations.
    The delegates of Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Western Sahara, Syria and the U.S. also joined in the campaign.
    The signature paper supports the Korean people and youth in their just struggle to build a reunified powerful nation under Kim Jong Il's army-centred revolutionary leadership and calls for an immediate implementation of the joint declaration. It also urges the U.S. to drop its hostile policy towards the DPRK and withdraw its troops from south Korea at once.

U.S. Forces in S. Korea urged to renounce criminal jurisdiction

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The all-people measure committee for Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son, schoolgirls killed by U.S. armored car held a rally in Seoul on August 7, demanding the U.S. Forces' renunciation of criminal jurisdiction over the case and Bush's apology, according to a news report. A speech was made and an open letter to Bush was read out at the rally.
    After the rally, the participants marched towards the U.S. embassy. During the demonstration they clashed with police, burning the stars and stripes.
    The council for national reconciliation and independent reunification, in a statement on august 8, said the transfer of criminal jurisdiction from the U.S. Forces was natural in view of the seriousness of the case, anger of all the people and public demand for the elimination of unequal south Korea-U.S. relations.
    It demanded that the GI killers be brought before south Korean court, those of the second division of the U.S. army responsible for the case punished and the U.S. ambassador and bush make an apology to the south Korean people. It also urged a total revision of the south Korea-U.S. status of forces agreement.

NP digs its own grave - Thongil Sinbo

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- All the Koreans who hope for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, whether they are in the north or south or abroad, should never allow the anti-national, anti-peace and anti-reunification acts of the Grand National Party (GNP) of south Korea, said Thongil Sinbo, an independent newspaper, on August 10. In a signed article the newspaper said:
    All the fellow countrymen are now fully supporting progress in the relations between the north and south of Korea. But only the GNP is trying to throw a hurdle in the way of inter-Korean dialogue, displeased with the two sides restarting dialogue and moving towards detente, cooperation and reunification. It is the old game and intrinsic characteristics of the GNP to spread sheer lies and negate even patriotism and justice.
    We can never connive at the grave consequences the GNP's foolish acts may bring to the nation.
    Since the publication of the landmark June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, which is essential for the destiny of the nation and the prospect of reunification, the GNP has rejected it, alleging that the south submitted to the north and played into its hands. The GNP has impeded the implementation of the declaration, even calling for dropping its second paragraph. As soon as the naval clash occurred on the west sea, it, availing itself of the chance, took great pains to bring the situation to confrontation and war, bereft of reason.
    We would like to ask the GNP, which objects to improved inter-Korean relations without proper reasons, as follows:
    What has the GNP done for the nation and reunification? Was it formed only to mock the destiny of the nation?
    The GNP, going against the trend of the times and the aspiration of the fellow countrymen, is now digging its own grave.

Paekdusan architectural institute

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Paekdusan architectural institute in Korea has deepened the work to put local architecture on to a higher level. The institute, founded in Juche 71 (1982), is a comprehensive architectural creation and study base.
    In the past 20 years, it designed more than 300 major objects, greatly contributing to building monumental edifices in the workers' party era.
    Among them were the Mansudae Art Theater, the Grand People's Study House, the Monument to Party Founding, the Changgwang Health Complex, the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, the April 25 Film Studio of the Korean People's Army, the Korean computer center, the international friendship exhibition and the Songdowon International Children's Camp.
    The institute completed designs for 66 kinds of air-conditioning systems each up to 5,000-70,000 cubic meters/h and 65 kinds of large-size indoor and outdoor air conditioners and cooling towers.
    The researchers of the institute completed over 60 researches for developing inorganic paints for preventing rust and pollution, color sidewalk blocks, synthetic stones and asphalt adhesives.
    All its designers and researchers devote their wisdom and talents to architectural creation to change the appearance of the country so as to meet the needs of socialism.

Philosophical principle of Juche idea

    Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Juche idea raised the issue of relations between the world and man and man's position and role in the world as the fundamental question of philosophy and elucidated the philosophical principle that man is the master of everything and decides everything. The conception about the relations between material and consciousness, the fundamental question of the preceding philosophy, could not give a correct answer to the question of carving out man's destiny.
    The Juche idea was the first to successfully solve the issue of position and role of man in the world in the human history of philosophy by elucidating in a unique manner the philosophical principle that man is the master of everything and decides everything.
    The main characteristics of this philosophical principle lies in that it is a man-centred philosophical principle. It is because the principle clarifies man's position and role in the world proceeding from his fundamental requirement for dominating and transforming nature and society and leading an independent and creative life and confirms the possibility of meeting it.
    The philosophical principle of the Juche idea is a perfect one as it scientifically elucidates man's position and role in the present world.
    This principle explains that man is the master of his own destiny and is capable of carving it out. This is a fundamental principle for shaping man's destiny.
    The Juche idea and its system and all its ideological and theoretical contents are evolved with man placed in the centre of everything and with this philosophical principle taken as an ideological, theoretical and methodological basis.
    The philosophical principle serves as a scientific and revolutionary principle fully reflecting the reality today when the position and role of the popular masses as the master of the world have been remarkably enhanced and indicating ways of shaping the human destiny in keeping with their desire and wishes for independence.
