Anniversary of Korean liberation celebrated
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- Shaher Mohammed Abdlah, Palestinian Ambassador to the DPRK, gave a reception at the embassy on August 20 on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of Korean liberation.
Present on invitation were Ri Kum Bom, minister of post and telecommunications, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of foreign affairs, and other officials concerned.
Speeches were made at the reception.
DPRK fully ready for dialogue and war
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- If the United States eventually ignites another war on the Korean Peninsula, the army and people of the DPRK will deal thousand-fold retaliatory blows at the aggressors so that they may not dare to attack it again, warns Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary assailing the U.S.-led large-size Ulji Focus Lens joint military maneuvers now under way in south Korea.
The commentary says:
This saber rattling is a product of the cold war and is mainly targeted against the DPRK.
The U.S. behavior compels the DPRK to doubt the issue of resuming the DPRK-U.S. dialogue proposed by the U.S. side. For dialogue the U.S. should refrain from any provocations to its dialogue partner. Yet, the U.S. is busy making preparations to stifle the DPRK by force of arms, while paying lip-service to the dialogue. Ulji Focus Lens is part of them.
Saber rattling is incompatible with dialogue. The U.S. does not stand for a negotiated settlement of any problem but is only keen to bring the DPRK to its knees by force of arms.
The U.S. moves to strain the situation on the Korean Peninsula to start a war would not do it good either. The DPRK can no longer be exposed to the U.S. military threat and the danger of war posed by it.
The DPRK is fully ready for both dialogue and war.
Minju Joson on independent foreign policy of DPRK
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- It is thanks to the consistent peace efforts of the DPRK government based on its independent foreign policy that war has been averted and stability preserved on the Korean Peninsula though it is unstable, said Minju Joson in a signed article on Tuesday.
It went on:
This is illustrated by the fact that the ministerial meeting of the Asean regional forum in Brunei Darussalam in July laid emphasis on the position and role of the Korean Peninsula and the DPRK in ensuring peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Exposed to attempts to stifle the DPRK by force of arms and threat to its right to existence, the DPRK government has adhered to the basic idea of independence and peace and made positive efforts to avert a new war on the Korean Peninsula and keep peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Most of the EU member nations have established diplomatic relations with the DPRK and many countries including the ASEAN member nations have exchanged high-level visits and invigorated cooperation with it in all fields including the economy and culture. This is also thanks to the independent foreign policy of the DPRK government.
Very important is the position of the Korean Peninsula in keeping and consolidating peace in the Asia-Pacific region and achieving its sustained development.
Threatening a sovereign state militarily and attempting to isolate and stifle it, prompted by the outdated thinking-pattern of the cold war era, will only result in bringing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to confrontation and tensions.
The DPRK government will in the future, too, pursue its foreign policy no matter how the situation may change and make positive efforts for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world.
Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's guidance to military camping marked
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held in the Oun Revolutionary Site on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's guidance to the military camping in Oun-dong.
Present at the meeting were Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, officials concerned, those who took part in the military camping, officials and employees of the revolutionary site, working people, youth and students in the city.
Ro Jong Nam, chief secretary of the Ryongsong district, Pyongyang, committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in a report said that Kim Jong Il came to Oun-dong on August 20, Juche 51 (1962) and conducted outstanding ideological and theoretical activities concerning military affairs, performing immortal exploits in strengthening the Workers' Party of Korea and the revolutionary armed forces.
In that period, Kim Jong Il studied hard President Kim Il Sung's Juche-oriented military idea, theory and war method and clarified their main contents, essential characteristics, system, originality and greatness, he noted.
The reporter recalled that Kim Jong Il personally took part in military drills, teaching students combat methods and energetically guided the work to strengthen the party life with deep concern for it.
The great feats performed by him for the growth of our party and the revolutionary armed forces, while guiding the military camping, will shine forever, the reporter concluded.
Rodong Sinmun on WPK's economic policy
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- The economy of the DPRK is fully demonstrating its potential, unaffected by the imperialists' vicious moves of stifling the country, thanks to most correct economic policy of the Workers' Party of Korea, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a signed article.
It goes on:
The economic policy of the WPK is the most revolutionary and scientific one for managing the economy as required by the popular masses, in conformity with the law governing the economic development and economic principles and with the changed situation and present conditions.
The policy of effecting a surge in potato farming, the policy of developing fish farming and stockbreeding and many other policies advanced by the WPK to considerably improve the people's living reflect the revolutionary will of the WPK, which makes every possible effort for the well-being of the people.
The policy of fully gaining actual profits while adhering to the socialist principles, the policy of mapping out plans on the basis of the actual conditions and possibility and all other economic policies of the WPK have fully demonstrated their vitality because they correctly reflect the law governing the economic development.
The cost-accounting system in economic management embodies the principle of the socialist economic management to give full play to the responsibility and creativeness of lower units while fully ensuring the centralistic and unified guidance of the state.
Also reflected in the price of goods is the principled demand to properly use the general economic law calling for keeping production and circulation based on socially necessary labor in conformity with the characteristics of the socialist society.
The policy of giving importance to seed in the economic work came from the innovative judgment of the WPK to rapidly develop the economy, holding fast to the core in all domains of production and construction. The policy of establishing the system and order of the economic management calling for combining the economy with science and technology and keeping production and management based on the scientific and technical successes reflects the revolutionary stand of the WPK to build a powerful economy, relying on science and technology.
U.S. military presence in S. Korea unjustifiable
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- There is no longer reason for the U.S. troops to remain in south Korea, and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from south Korea is a unanimous demand of the Korean nation, said Rodong Sinmun on August 20 in a signed article.
The south Korean people's mounting anti-U.S. sentiment and demand for the U.S. Forces' pullout prove it eloquently, the article said, and went on:
The Koreans in the north and the south in the June 15 joint declaration pledged to reject the foreign interference and achieve national reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
But the U.S. still refuses to withdraw its troops from south Korea, standing in the way of inter-Korean relations and reunification issue.
The U.S. and the south Korean pro-U.S. conservatives are asserting that the U.S. military presence in south Korea is helpful to "regional peace and stability." This is nothing but a sophism aimed to justify its occupation of south Korea.
These days the U.S. hawks are charging that the DPRK poses a threat to the security of the U.S. the charge is also aimed to make an excuse for the continuous presence of its troops in south Korea and start of a war against the DPRK.
During the Cold War, the U.S. asserted that its military presence in south Korea was necessary to prevent "southward march of the Soviet army." with the Cold War terminated and the soviet union dissolved a long time ago, however, there is no reason for the U.S. troops to remain in south Korea.
The U.S. is well advised to withdraw its troops from south Korea at an early date and renounce the policy of stifling the DPRK as desired by the whole Korean nation, not misleading the public opinion.
Active membrane filter service
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- The hi-tech service in the DPRK is providing a membrane filter service.
The filter is used in refining, separating and concentrating various materials and extracting efficacious ingredients.
In food industry it is used in filtering germs in soft drinks such as cider and juice and refining drinks and producing aseptic air for fermentation and in the medical field it is used in sterlizing anti-cancer materials, injection, vaccine, sera, and eye lotion, etc. and producing germ detergent for cleansing medical apparatuses.
In the chemical industry and the field of semi-conductor and integrated circuit production, it is used in making specially pure reagent and non-particle computer ink and in filtering liquid and air for producing hi-purity materials.
The filter is characterized by its dense porosity and free from dropout and absorption of liquid and safe from acid.
The membrane filter is widely used in improving the quality of goods, cutting down the production cost and developing new materials in several fields of the national economy.
Global warming and its consequences in Korea
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- Global warming has become a serious issue of the international community.
A huge amount of greenhouse gas emitted in the process of developing and using resources in many countries is now polluting the environment of human life on the earth and posing a grave threat to existence and activities of human beings.
The third report of the IPCC says that climate changes owing to global warming caused by a huge emission of greenhouse gas, a result of human activities.
Most of the carbon dioxide, the main factor of global warming, is emitted in the developed industrial nations.
The density of the carbon dioxide on the earth in the early 20th century increased to 300 PPM. If this rate of increase is left unchecked, it is likely to reach 6,000 PPM in 2050 and the average temperature of the earth is expected to rise 4-6 degrees centigrade.
Then the glacier and iceberg will thaw in the polar regions. Sea water will rise to such a level that its consequences will be unimaginable.
The changeable weather caused by global warming is seriously affecting Korea, too.
In Korea the weather gradually became whimsical from the early 1970s, seriously upsetting the balance between temperature and rainfall in the 1990s. In consequence, the DPRK was frequently hit by abnormal weather.
The speed of warming in Korea at present is three times the average speed of global warming.
The rainfall sharply decreased in the area on middle latitudes (30-40 degrees north latitude) where Korea is situated and the rain to be expected in northeast Asia fell on the areas lying on low and high latitudes, causing floods.
Last year Korea was hit in January by the longest spell of cold weather in one hundred years and the highest temperature in the history of meteorological observation registered repeatedly in the spring. Korea was struck by the severest drought in 1,000 years that played great havoc with the agricultural production.
Inestimable is the damage done to different domains of the national economy by the climatic change including the reduction of grain harvest due to a long spell of torrential rain and shortage of energy caused by the lack of hydraulic power resources.
The repeated natural disasters that hit the DPRK are attributable to the abnormal weather caused by global warming.
The issue of global warming is a worldwide one that should be jointly settled by humankind.
Great event in 2001
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's visit to Russia in August last year was a great event in the first year of the new century that fully demonstrated the attraction, political and diplomatic ability and noble traits of the great man.
Nearly 2,000 media of over 180 countries reported about his visit, describing it the "greatest event in 2001" and a "visit that bore good results," and celebrations took place in some 60 countries.
Televisions of more than 150 countries broadcast Kim Jong Il's arrival in Moscow, his talks with President Putin, the adoption of the DPRK-Russia Moscow declaration and his visits to various places of Russia.
Russian media reported about his visit to Russia on more than 1,200 occasions.
Putin accorded a sincere and warm hospitality to Kim Jong Il and Russian people warmly welcomed him everywhere he went.
Many TV viewers around the world were deeply impressed by Kim Jong Il visiting the mausoleum of Lenin. They spoke highly of his strong sense of morality and obligation and viewed his visit to Russia as a historic event that made a great contribution not only to developing relations between the DPRK and Russia but to strengthening peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world.
Kim Jong Il's current visit to the far eastern region, which is drawing worldwide attention, will be another epoch-making event in further developing DPRK-Russia friendly relations.
Secretariat of CPRF assails Ulji Focus Lens
Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- The secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland Wednesday issued information bulletin no. 821 assailing the Ulji Focus Lens joint military exercise launched by the U.S. and south Korea as a very dangerous saber rattling which poses a grave threat to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and an unpardonable criminal act intended to incite mistrust and enmity among the Koreans and bring the inter-Korean relations back to the state of confrontation.
The bulletin says:
The madcap large military exercise targeted against the DPRK is an open challenge to the dialogue partner and a premeditated provocation aimed to totally negate and reverse all the positive developments for dialogue and cooperation as it is under way at a crucial juncture when the trend of cold war and confrontation between the north and the south is being rapidly replaced by that of reconciliation and unity.
The U.S. drove even south Korea to this war exercise to stifle the DPRK. This eloquently proves once again that the U.S. is the biggest stumbling block lying in the way of improving the inter-Korean relations.
If the south Korean authorities truly want peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the settlement of its reunification issue, they should stand by the nation and opt for halting the joint military exercise which hampers the dialogue and improved inter-Korean relations.
If the U.S. and the south Korean hawkish forces continue staging the provocative war exercise against their dialogue partner despite unanimous opposition and denunciation at home and abroad, they will be held wholly responsible for the grave consequences to be entailed by it.
