DPRK's will to strengthen NAM clarified

Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- The DPRK clarified a series of views on adopting joint approaches of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) towards main agenda items of the UN General Assembly this year. Vice-minister of foreign affairs Choe Su Hon who was heading the DPRK delegation said in his speech at the foreign ministers' conference of the NAM on September 18:
I consider it important to give priority to raising the position of the NAM and demonstrate its collective might at the UN and other international fora.
Member countries of the NAM have an absolute majority of the un members and many issues presented there for discussion are directly related to the interests of those countries, but their interests are not properly reflected in the decision-making at the un.
I think it is important for the NAM to take positive joint actions at the UN General Assembly this year to disclose the moves threatening world peace and security and check them.
Unilateral, self-righteous and high-handed practices and the strength-almighty-theory are mainly targeted against the member countries of the NAM and their sovereignty are, therefore, often threatened and infringed upon.
Such reality requires the NAM to be more vigilant towards what is happening in the world than ever before and focus its activities on foiling the doctrine based on the policy of strength that may threaten the sovereignty of states and drive the international relations to a crisis.
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il the DPRK will as always remain true to the noble idea and purpose of the NAM and exert all efforts to strengthen it, as taught by Kim Il Sung, eternal President of the DPRK, in his lifetime.

Sincere implementation of DPRK-Japan Pyongyang declaration called for

Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- The DPRK-Japan Pyongyang declaration whose publication is an important event in putting the abnormal relations between the two countries on a normal track can be implemented only through the sincere efforts on the part of both sides, says Minju Joson today in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The summit talks, the first of their kind in the history of the DPRK-Japan relations, took place and the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang declaration was adopted at the talks. This marked a landmark event which paved the way for putting an end to the abnormal relations between the DPRK and Japan in conformity with the aspirations and interests of the two peoples and the need of the times because they have been locked in discord and confrontation for one whole century though they are geographically near from each other.
The relations of confrontation that have existed the DPRK and Japan due to the unpleasant past in the 20th century are beneficial to no one in any way.
The two peoples wish to see their countries to remain on good terms as near and close neighbours not as near yet distant countries and realize co-existence and co-prosperity.
The declaration reflects this desire and requirement.
The talks for establishing diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Japan slated to resume in October should not turn out under any circumstances to be talks only wasting time without any progress as what happened in the past.
It is the belief of the Korean people that a new page will be recorded in the history of the relations between the two countries thanks to their common will and joint efforts to improve them.
