DPRK birthday celebrated abroad

    Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The 54th anniversary of the DPRK was celebrated significantly in more than 100 countries. Progressive people in five continents paid the highest tribute to Kim Il Sung, the founder and eternal president of the DPRK, and Kim Jong Il, the symbol of all victory and glory of the country.
    Messages of greetings and congratulatory letters were sent to Kim Jong Il from state, government and political party leaders of many countries including China, Russia, Indonesia, Nepal, Guinea, Congo, Sweden, Jamaica and Belize.
    Laid before portraits of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il were floral baskets in the name of heads of state, leaders of political parties and organizations and prominent political and public figures of Cuba, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Egypt, India and other countries, the honorary president of the world peace council, the director general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea and other chiefs and members of international organizations.
    Kim Jong Il was registered as an honorary citizen of Canar Province of Ecuador and his famous work "Let us bring the advantages of our people's power into full play" was published in booklet by the Cuban Book Association Publishing House.
    Seminars, meetings, lectures, round-table talks, photo, book and handicraft exhibitions, film shows, receptions and other colorful celebrations took place on over 350 occasions and statements were released in some 100 countries.
    An estimated 180 mass media of some 70 countries including Russia, Cuba, Iran, Syria, Guinea and Mexico published special write-ups and broadcast special programs. Special bulletins were issued by the African Regional Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea and friendship organizations and Juche idea study groups in different countries including Bulgaria, Uganda and Denmark.


Respect for Kim Jong Il expressed

    Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The government and people of Belize and I have deep respect for Kim Jong Il, said Colvill N. Young, governor general of Belize, when receiving credentials from Pak Tong Chun, new DPRK Ambassador to Belize, on September 18. He sincerely wished Kim Jong Il good health and success in his work for the country's prosperity and reunification and people's well-being.


International signature campaign supporting inter-Korean declaration

    Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- Organizations of the Britain and Japan and international organizations participated in the international signature campaign supporting the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and demanding the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. troops from South Korea. Mohammed Arif, general secretary of the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of Britain, signed the signature paper on behalf of its 1,000 members, while Yokoro Kenjiro, secretary general of the Japanese doctors' organization for preventing nuclear war, signed it on behalf of its 4,000 members and 150,000 members of the international doctors' organization for preventing nuclear war.
    M. A. Paridi, executive secretary of the progressive forum, also signed the signature paper on behalf of the organization.
    Meanwhile, members of the European office of the international action organization for solidarity, equality, environment and development participated in the signature campaign.


Efforts for Korea's reunification called for

    Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The country's reunification, vital for the destiny of the nation, is the primary task to be fulfilled by the Korean nation, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday. For the Korean nation at present there is no more urgent and important task than reunifying the country, the daily says in a signed article, and continues:
    If one has a soul and conscience as the Korean nation, he should neither turn aside from the issue of national reunification nor tolerate anti-national and anti-reunification acts and war moves of the separatists at home and abroad.
    Independent reunification of the country is the only way-out for the Korean nation. peace of the country, security of the nation and their eternal prosperity are all guaranteed by the independent and peaceful reunification of the country. It is the vital requirement and supreme task of the nation which brook no further delay to put an end to the tragedy of national division and achieve its reunification. In order to successfully achieve national reunification, all the Koreans should subordinate everything to the cause of national reunification irrespective of difference in ideology and social system.
    Anyone who truly loves the country and the nation and is concerned about their destiny should join in the efforts for national reunification, regardless of where they reside and irrespective of difference in ideology, idea, religious belief, political view, class and stratum.
    The Korean nation, if it is to reunify the country independently, should unite as one under the banner of patriotism and national reunification in the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
    Even those who committeed crimes against the nation in the past should repent of their wrongdoings and turn out in the patriotic efforts of reunification. and the high authorities, ruling and opposition party figures, big capitalists and army generals of south korea should join in the trend of great national unity for the country's reunification, an interest common to the nation.


U.S. President's special envoy to visit DPRK

    Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- James Kelly, U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, will visit the DPRK from Oct.3 to 5 as a special envoy of Bush, President of the USA. He will be accompanied by the U.S. state department special envoy for negotiation with the DPRK, the director for Asian Affairs of the National Security Council of the White House, a general of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff, high-ranking officials of the U.S. defense department and others.
    During his visit he will explain the present U.S. administration's Korea policy and its stand toward the resumption of dialogue with the DPRK.
    He will also exchange views of issues of mutual concern.
