Anniversary of PRC observed
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate signed articles to the 53rd anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The foundation of the PRC was an epochal event which brought about a fundamental turn in the historic development of the Chinese people and carving out their destiny, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
The Chinese people made great achievements in their efforts to create a new life and build new socialist China in the past 53 years.
They are now making positive efforts to step up the modernization of the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and build socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Over 180 espionage flights by U.S.
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist warmongers have made over 180 espionage flights against the DPRK in September with the mobilization of different types of strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes, according to military sources.
At around 08:05 on September 30 a South Korea-based U-2 high-altitude strategic reconnaissance plane flew above forward areas of the DPRK for a long time for the purpose of electronic reconnaissance on strategic targets.
Such flights of U-2S, RC-135S and E-3S totaled more than 30 in the month.
Russian artistes see performance given by artistes of Ministry of People's Security
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The State Academy Ensemble of Ministry of Interior of Russia saw a song and dance performance given by the ensemble of the DPRK Ministry of People's Security at the Ponghwa Art Theater on Monday.
Among the audience were Viktor Eliseyev, head of the ensemble, and its members and Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Andrei Karlov and staff members of the embassy.
Korean ensemble's repertoire included Korean songs and dances "Song of General Kim Jong Il," "As general is a crack shot we never miss targets" and "At the spring" and Russian songs "Day of Victory," "Ryabinushka in the Ural mountains".
A floral basket was presented to the performers in congratulation of their successful performance.
Rwandan President on relations with DPRK
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The international position of the DPRK is being enhanced by Kim Jong Il's army-based policy and energetic external activity. The Rwandan government is attaching great importance to the development of the relations with the DPRK and hoping that Korea will be reunified at an early date. Rwandan President Paul Kagame said this when receiving credentials from Kim Pong Gi, new DPRK Ambassador to Rwanda, on Sept. 23.
He expressed thanks to President Kim Il Sung for helping the Rwandan people in the past and said he was pleased that Kim Jong Il was deeply interested in developing the ties with Rwanda.
Belize Prime Minister supports Korean people's struggle
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Belize Prime Minister said Musa expressed support to the korean people's struggle when pak tong chun, new dprk Ambassador to Belize, paid a courtesy call on him on Sept. 20.
The prime minister said that the Belize government fully supports the DPRK government's efforts to realize peaceful reunification of the country and the Korean people's drive for defending the socialist principles and developing their system.
Chinese Ambassador hosts reception
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Wu Donghe, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK, hosted a reception at the Okryu Restaurant on Monday evening on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The ambassador in his speech said that the foundation of the PRC recorded a new page in the history of the Chinese people, and introduced successes china achieved after the foundation.
Saying the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the government of the DPRK had exerted all efforts to accelerate the economic development, ease tension on the Korean Peninsula and strengthen the external relations, he sincerely hoped that everything would go well in the DPRK and the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea would be realized.
Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, in his speech said that over the last 53 years since the foundation of the PRC the Chinese people had worked hard to create a new life, thus building a prosperous socialist state on the vast land of China, once backward and poverty-stricken.
It is the firm stand and will of the WPK and the government of the DPRK to steadily consolidate and develop the DPRK-China friendship, he said, adding:
We together with the Chinese comrades will continue making efforts to further develop the bilateral friendship.
Invited to the reception were Kim Su Hak, minister of public health who is the chairman of the c.c., the DPRK-China friendship association, officials concerned and diplomatic envoys from different countries.

Great unity of nation called for
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The cause of national reunification is a common cause of the Korean nation to bring happiness and prosperity to the nation, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
It goes on:
Our cause of reunification is a worthwhile patriotic work to reconnect the severed blood ties of the nation and demonstrate the dignity and might of the reunified Korean nation.
The destiny and development of the nation can be guaranteed only when independent reunification is achieved to realize independence of the nation and it is an expression of most ardent patriotism to work hard to attain it.
If our nation is to preserve its national character as a homogeneous nation with a long history and carve out its destiny independently, it is necessary to rejoin the severed blood ties of the nation and reappear as such. Great national unity should be achieved to realize this.
Achieving this unity is the best way of putting an end to the tragedy of national division and reunifying Korea.
The territorial partition and the national split have spelled unspeakable national disasters to the fellow countrymen and blocked the uniform development of the country. it is only foreign forces that fish in troubled waters.

Anecdotes about Kim Jong Il
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- It happened in August Juche 89 (2000) when delegates of South Korean media organizations visited Pyongyang.
When Kim Jong Il received them, they told him that the north could make a big money if it advanced abroad by promoting joint ventures with other countries in the domains of animated cartoons and computer software as it had already reached the world standards in the fields.
Laughing broadly, he said that if the north and the south launched joint ventures in these fields the profit would all belong to Korea with each side taking half of it. Then, why should we make joint ventures with other countries, he asked.
The delegates were deeply moved by the leader putting the interests of the nation above anything else.
Another anecdote about him is related to cosmetics produced at the Sinuiju cosmetics factory.
There is a certificate at a sample room of the factory.
It is the certificate of a gold medal the Nowana-branded cosmetics won at the international cosmetics festival. It was a pride of the factory.
Kim Jong Il visited the factory a few years ago. Looking at the certificate he said nothing.
He just took measures to modernize the factory to produce and supply high quality cosmetics to the people although it was a very difficult time when the country had to tighten its belt.
After his visit, the brand was renamed spring fragrance, widely accepted by the people, and the products have been fully supplied to them.
Kim Jong Il visited the factory again afterwards. Factory officials gave him something to read. It was a letter sent by a woman living in a mountainous county in Ryanggang Province to thank the factory for face cream and powder of the spring fragrance brand it produced.
Greatly satisfied to read the letter, he said the letter was just a certificate the factory should receive.

S. Koreans here for joint national function
Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- A South Korean delegation headed by Han Yang Won, chairman of the South Korean preparatory committee for the joint national function for celebrating the foundation day of Korea, arrived here Tuesday.
It has come to participate in the joint national function to mark the foundation day of Korea at the invitation of the consultative council for the reunification of the Tangun nation (CCRTN).
The delegation consists of representatives of various social organizations including the central headquarters of Chondoism, the headquarters of Taejonggyo, the national religious council, the federation of national movement organizations and the Tangun institute and religious and academic figures.
It was greeted at the airport by CCRTN president Ryu Mi Yong, members of the council and officials concerned.
The head of the delegation issued a written arrival statement at the airport.
The statement expressed belief that the joint national function for marking the foundation day of Korea would mark an occasion for the whole nation to march along the road of reunification. Through its Pyongyang visit the delegation will make every possible effort for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, it noted.
