KCNA calls for pooling nation's efforts

Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The desire for inter-Korean exchange, cooperation, unity and reunification is running higher than ever before on the Korean Peninsula. This was clearly manifested in the 14th Asian Games in Pusan shortly ago.
It was by no means fortuitous that the South Korean media vied with each other to give a wide coverage to the scenes showing national unity, saying that "Pusan Asian Games offer a good opportunity to restore the homogeneity of the nation," "cheering groups of the south and the north are united as one" and "spirit of one nation has been displayed."
When players of the north and the south jointly entered the stadium in the same uniforms with a large Korean Peninsula flag in their van, the people from all walks of life from the north and the south and abroad warmly welcomed the praiseworthy sons and daughters of the nation with compatriotic feelings.
Their touching and enthusiastic cheers during every match clearly proved that the nation stands above ideology and system and the blood of the Korean nation, which boasts of a long history spanning 5,000 years, is thicker than water.
It is an unshakable stand and will of the Korean nation to relink the severed blood ties of the nation and demonstrate the dignity and might of the nation with one history, one culture and one language in a reunified land.
That is why the Korean people in the north and the south and abroad have exerted incessant efforts to open the door of reunification by their concerted efforts for the last several decades since the country was divided by foreign forces.
Visits of politicians, men of culture and sportspersons and reunions of separated families and relatives took place recently between the north and the south in the wake of multi-faceted inter-Korean negotiations and ground-breaking ceremonies were held to reconnect the eastern and western coastal railway and road links. These are a shining fruition of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and a product of the Korean people's desire and efforts to preserve the blood ties of the nation in a reunified country.
The reality goes to prove that it is more urgent and vital than ever before for the Korean nation to pool its will, wisdom and strength.
The 70 million Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should demonstrate the homogeneity and advantages of the nation, deeply aware of the true meaning of the great proposition "by our nation itself" and achieve greater success in the efforts to accomplish the cause of reunification.

Down-With-Imperialism Union

Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The Down-With- Imperialism Union (DIU) is the historical root of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). Resolved to organize a vanguard of the revolution to wage the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle with a proper platform, depending on the popular masses, President Kim Il Sung formed the DIU in Huadian on October 17, Juche 15 (1926).
The formation of the DIU, a new-type revolutionary organization, opened up a new era in which the Korean revolution could advance on the principle of independence, separated from those infected with flunkeyism and dogmatism.
Under the wise leadership of the president the DIU conducted positive activities to bring up many workers, peasants, youth and students as revolutionaries of the new generation. It also made a great contribution to laying mass foundation of the revolution and developing the Korean revolution as a whole.
It was recast as the anti-imperialist youth league in August 1927 as required by the developing revolution. Later, the Young Communist League of Korea (YCLK) was formed with the elite of the DIU.
The society for rallying comrades, the first party organization and the origin of the Workers' Party of Korea, was inaugurated in Kalun in early July 1930 with revolutionaries trained in the YCLK.
The first party organization inherited the program and rules of the DIU without any modifications.
The revolutionaries of the new generation brought up by the DIU were active as the backbone in the WPK foundation and the program and the principles of independence set forth by the DIU served as the basic program of the WPK and its principles of party building and its activities.
