S. Korean students' sit-in strike to protect monument
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Students of Seoul National University reportedly went on a sit-in strike to protest the university authorities' demand for the removal of the monument to the June 15 joint declaration and protect it.
The monument was erected by at least 5,600 students and professors of the university on august 14 to mark the anniversary of the declaration.
The university authorities have repeatedly demanded the removal of the monument since its erection. At dawn of Oct. 19 they suddenly began to remove it.
Enraged at this, the strikers stopped the vandalism. After pitching tents around the monument they went on a sit-in strike in demand of its restoration and an apology from the university president.
Solidarity with Korean people called for
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- We call on all other Arab people to express firm solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from South Korea and the demolition of the concrete wall so as to achieve peace and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula and make efforts to foil the aggressive attempt of the U.S. imperialists to divide the world, said the Arab Committee for Solidarity with the Korean People and Supporting the Reunification of Korea and the Arab Centre for the Study of Independent Idea in Jordan in a joint statement issued on Oct. 27.
The statement noted that thanks to the independent policy and wise leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people have achieved great successes in improving the inter-Korean relations despite the U.S. administration's moves to perpetuate Korea's division and escalate the tensions and its much ado about "threat to peace".
Kim Jong Il, believing in people as in heaven, has demonstrated to the world that he can put an end to the U.S. military presence in South Korea with their creative ability and fighting spirit, the statement stressed.
Anti-U.S., anti-war movement called for
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- The solidarity for implementing the south-north joint declaration reportedly issued on Nov. 6 an appeal as regards the unilateral and high-handed attitude of the U.S. towards the north over its nuclear issue.
Recalling that all guarantees for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue including the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework, the DPRK-U.S. joint statement and NPT are being ignored by the U.S., the appeal accused the U.S. administration of such hostile acts as forcing the DPRK to unconditionally scrap its nuclear program and increasing the danger of war.
We categorically reject the U.S. hegemonic move to unilaterally solve such crucial issues related to the existence of the Korean nation in its interests, the appeal noted.
It called for rising up in a nation-wide anti-U.S., anti-war movement for peace to protect the nation's existence and proposed to hold an all-people peace meeting to provide a social and political environment for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue.
Pointing out that the destiny of the Koreans should be carved out by their own efforts, the appeal urged various patriotic forces to rise up as one to defend the peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and save the nation from an imminent crisis.
