U.S. assailed for hamstringing inter-Korean exchange and cooperation

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The head of the north side's delegation to the panel for reconnecting the north-south rail and road links issued a statement yesterday assailing the United States for laying a serious obstacle in the way of north-south exchange and cooperation. He said:
On November 26 the deputy chief of the staff of the U.S. Forces command in South Korea, who represents the U.S. Forces side at the DPRK-U.S. general-level talks in Panmunjom, argued that if the rail and road links are reconnected between the north and south, they may be used for invasion of the south by the north.
Addressing round-table talks on Nov. 28, he raised the issue of crossing the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in line with the armistice agreement. In disregard of the implementation of the points of the north-south agreement, he insisted that not only overland tour of Mt. Kumgang but also the north-south exchange and cooperation can not be allowed without a prior consent of the "U.N. Forces."
When the inter-Korean rail and road links are reconnected it will be a symbol of peace on the Korean Peninsula and promote the common prosperity and interests of the Korean nation and the rest of the world.
Yet, the U.S. made such a far-fetched assertion that the inter-Korean rail and road may be used for invasion of the south. This is sheer nonsense.
The DPRK bitterly denounces his remarks as they are a U.S. blatant challenge to the unanimous desire and will of the fellow countrymen to rejoin the severed ties of the nation.
The statement called on all the Koreans in the north and the south to counter with nationwide sacred resistance the U.S. unjust moves to interfere with and hamper inter-Korean exchange and cooperation including the projects of reconnecting the rail and road links.

Verdict of not guilty given to GI killers blasted

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary assailed the recent "trial" staged by the U.S. aggressor forces in South Korea at which a verdict of not guilty was given to the two GIs who drove an armored car over South Korean girl students to death. The commentary says:
The U.S. trial was another provocation to the Korean nation. It once again proved that the U.S. imperialists are bereft of even elementary ethics, morality and conscience.
If the U.S. Forces side stood to reason not only the killers but itself should have faced a trial as demanded by the South Korean people.
It is the requirements of ethics and law and an exercise of a legitimate right for a victim to call an assailant to task and punish him.
Nevertheless the U.S. Forces side gave a verdict of not guilty to the GI killers at a false trial at which prosecutors, the jury and judges all defended the criminals.
It was, in fact, a trial where the defendant judged the defendant.
It was, indeed, a brigandish action, mockery and challenge to the Korean nation as it ignored ethics and morality, to say nothing of law.
The Korean nation will surely punish the U.S. imperialists, impudent aggressors and barbarians, holding high the banner of independence against the U.S.

KCNA assails U.S. development of new types of nukes

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- It has been disclosed recently that the U.S. is keen on developing nuclear weapons of the new generation capable of destroying underground plants and facilities, according to press reports. This once again laid bare the hypocrisy of the U.S. which is so much fretful about the development and proliferation of nuclear weapons and other types of weapons of mass destruction and use them as pretexts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign countries, pressurize them and launch wars against them.
It is none other than the U.S. which likes faulting other countries for increasing self-defensive capacity although it is producing and deploying any type of nuclear weapons as it pleases in a bid to retain an unchallenged position as a nuclear superpower.
Such stand and attitude of the U.S. is neither for global peace and security nor is in the basic interests of the American people.
Since it produced nuclear weapons for the first time in the world and dropped them over two Japanese cities to reduce them to debris the. Nuclear policy of the U.S. has served the political and military purpose of gaining the upperhand as the mainstay of its strategy to dominate the world.
It is attributable to this policy that humankind experienced the danger of a nuclear war several times in the last century and the American people had to pay huge taxes for the stockpiling of nukes.
The U.S. failed to prevent such tragedies as the September 11 incident although it is spending one billion U.S. dollars a day for development of nuclear weapons and other military purposes.
This is a clear proof of the deceptive nature of the U.S. anti-peace and unpopular domestic and foreign policies.
The U.S., thoughtless of its unilateralism, is demanding the DPRK scrap its "nuclear program" first. This is the height of arrogance and shamelessness.
It is practically increasing the nuclear threat to the DPRK after listing it as part of an "axis of evil" and a target of its preemptive nuclear attack in wanton violation of the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework and the basic spirit of the DPRK-U.S. joint statement. It is, therefore, a legitimate sovereign right for the DPRK to keep itself fully ready to cope with the enemy's threat.
If the U.S. has true willingness to peacefully settle the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, it should accept the DPRK's principled proposal for concluding a non-aggression treaty as early as possible.

Anecdote about Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- A performance of the national schoolchildren's art festival was held at the Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace on April 16, Juche 61 (1972) to celebrate the 60th birthday of President Kim Il Sung. Seeing the gymnastic dance "the sun shines" performed by students of the then Chongsu Senior Middle School, the president gave the first clap to the dancers in appreciation of their successful performance.
After the art performance, he had a picture taken with all the performers. Waving to the cheering performers, he happened to see the trainer of the gymnastic dancers. He approached to the trainer and congratulated her on her success, grasping her hands.
The performers were deeply affected by the meticulous loving care of the president, who was concerned about even the efforts of an ordinary teacher of a mountainous village school.

Fruition of citizens' sense of duty

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Now the Korean people are devoting their all to the prosperity of the country from the sense of duty as its citizens. Over the past seven years from the period of the "arduous march" nearly 40,000 projects including more than 6,000 industrial projects and over 1,500 cultural facilities have been completed in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. This is a splendid fruition of their strong sense of duty as citizens.
Typical of the completed projects are the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Waterway, the Youth Hero Motorway, the Kwangmyongsong Saltern, the pleasure grounds in Mt. Kuwol and Mt. Chilbo, medium and small-size power stations, modern poultry bases and basic foodstuff factories built throughout the country. They reflect the noble mind of the Korean people who have devoted themselves to the prosperity of the country.
Their sense of duty as citizens is highly displayed also in the land management.
In recent years more than 200,000 hectares of the land have been rezoned, over 610 rural villages, some 750-kilometer-long motorways and at least 200 bridges newly built and 8,400-odd-kilometer-long major roads rebuilt on an expansion basis. The participants in the recently held national meeting of support-army activists are families of revolutionary soldiers and individuals who have distinguished themselves in aiding the army for scores of years, deeply aware that the highest expression of patriotism in the era of the army-based policy is assisting the army.
Im Yong Su, Ri Song Hui, Ri Jong Hyang and Jo Pok Sun won gold medals at the world championships held some time ago, demonstrating the dignity and honour of the country.
In press interviews they said that the motive of their assisting the army and the secret to their success in the championships were the sense of duty as citizens living in the era of the army-based policy.

Day of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba observed

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article observes the 46th anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the Cuban people. The Cuban armed forces and people commemorate every year the historic day the Cuban revolutionaries landed on the Cuban territory by the ship "Granma" in the period of the reactionary dictatorial regime as the day of revolutionary armed forces, the article says.
    It goes on:
The history of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces is a history of sacred struggles and victory in which the pro-U.S. dictatorial regime was toppled, a new socialist Cuba built and the advance of socialism promoted with arms.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba have grown to be strong armed forces of the revolution and people who have inherited the strong revolutionary spirit and fighting exploits of the forerunners, frustrating all the ceaseless attempts of imperialists and reactionaries at military intervention and subversion and sabotage against Cuba.
The Cuban armed forces are full of conviction in certain victory and determination to firmly defend socialism deeply rooted in Cuba.
The armed forces and people of Cuba have worked hard to establish an all-people defence system. As a result, they are ready to turn out as one in the sacred war to defend the country and socialism from the enemy's aggression any moment.
They are standing firm against the vicious moves of the U.S. imperialists to stifle and isolate Cuba under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba.
They will accelerate the advance of socialism, holding arms more tightly in hands, as they are confidently forging ahead along the road chosen by themselves, confident of justness of their cause, the article concludes.

National Day of Laos observed

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the 27th National Day of Laos. (December 2, 1975). The article says:
The foundation of a new republic enabled the Lao people to start the struggle to build an independent new Laos while carving out their destiny by themselves as a true master of the country.
The Lao people have achieved great successes in their efforts to bring about an independent development and build a new society while achieving national unity and protecting the revolutionary gains from the acts of subversion and sabotage on the part of the enemies at home and abroad.
The Lao people are now making positive efforts to implement the decisions made at the 5th Plenum of the 7th Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.
They are advancing to attain new goals while consolidating achievements already made.

Pro-U.S. behavior of "GNP" blasted

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland yesterday issued information bulletin no.829 assailing the Grand National Party of South Korea for its behaviour revealing once again its true colours as a pro-U.S. group of traitors and touching off bitter anger of the whole nation. Recalling that a motley crew of the party including its spokesman vied with each other in describing bush's most hypocritical "apology" for the killing of schoolgirls as an "appropriate measure" and talking much about it as if everything had already been settled, the information bulletin went on:
Bush's words about "apology" and "regret" were not a sincere apology for the verdict of "not guilty" given to the GIs who killed the schoolgirls but a charade intended to calm down the popular anti-U.S. resistance of the South Korean people. Nevertheless, the group of the "GNP" took the lead in describing this "apology" as an "appropriate measure" and a "welcome gesture." This strips bare its true colors as a dirty pro-U.S. group of traitors as its behaviour reveals its intention to coax the South Korean people into giving up their campaign to punish the killers without fail, siding with the United States.
It is because of such traitorous group as the "GNP" keen to do harm to the fellow countrymen as servants of foreign forces for aggression and war that the U.S. imperialist aggressors are working more desperately to impose horrible disasters and sacrifices upon the Korean nation.
The information bulletin called upon the people from all walks of life in South Korea to wage a more vigorous struggle against the U.S. and Ri Hoe Chang.

Japanese reactionaries' anti-DPRK war moves under fire

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- As Japanese civilians staged a demonstration in protest against the recent U.S.-Japan joint military drill, the commanding general for the Japanese ground self-defence force stationed in the western region let loose a spate of outbursts that the exercise was aimed to cope with aggression and terrorism against Japan and deter the aggression from North Korea. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The DPRK cannot but take a serious note of the fact that the Japanese reactionaries are chiming in with the U.S. anti-DPRK war clamours timed to coincide with the outbursts let loose by Japan's ultra-right forces that "Japan may fight a war against North Korea".
Their talk about "deterring North Korean aggression" is nothing but sophism to cover up their moves to stage a comeback to Korea and means a scenario for aggression.
This is intended to hamstring the implementation of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang declaration, pursue confrontation and set out on reinvasion at the instigation of the U.S. imperialists.
Their reckless moves compel the DPRK to reconsider its stand on Japan's security concern.
The DPRK expressed its willingness to extend moratorium on the missile launch in the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang declaration despite the fact that its sovereignty and right to existence are seriously jeopardized by the U.S. escalated moves to stifle the DPRK and mount a preemptive attack on it. This was the most generous gesture made by the DPRK taking the ardent request of Japan into consideration.
If the Japanese right-wing reactionaries zealously follow the U.S. policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK, persistently antagonizing it, there is no need for Pyongyang to be so lenient as to cooperate in the efforts to alley Japan's security concerns including the issue of missile testfire.
The Japanese reactionaries are well advised to ponder over the gravity of the situation and its ensuing consequences.
