Inaugural ceremony of South Korean President held

     Pyongyang, February 26 (KCNA) -- A Presidential inaugural ceremony took place in South Korea on Feb. 25, according to a news report. President Kim Dae Jung retired from office and President-elected Roh Moo Hyun, Democratic Party candidate, was formerly inaugurated as new President, according to the results of the Presidential election held in December last year.

Seminar for peace mechanism on Korean Peninsula held

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A seminar on a peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula was held in Seoul on Feb. 19 under the sponsorship of the Citizens' Solidarity for Peace and Reunification, the Peace Committee of Reunification Solidarity, etc. in South Korea. Speakers at the seminar held that for a peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula it is necessary to settle political, military and economic issues simultaneously. To this end, the civic and social organizations will steadily escalate the candle-light demonstrations and strongly demand the united states not only hold dialogue with the DPRK but conclude a non-aggression treaty with it, the speakers noted.
    It is urgent to express positive will to achieve security in the land free from the presence of the U.S. troops, they added.
    The participants decided to open such seminar once in every month to discuss opinions.

Lecture on situation in Korea held in France

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A lecture on the situation on the Korean Peninsula was held at the senate of France on Feb. 14 under the co-sponsorship of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea and the France-Korea Friendship Association. Present at the lecture were French senator Jean Claude and figures of academic and media circles and people from all walks of life.
    Present on invitation were the general representative and members of the general representation in Paris.
    Robert Charvin, professor at the University of Nice, in the lecture said that the U.S. completely scrapped the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework and violated the spirit of the UN Charter, the DPRK-U.S. Joint Statement and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty under the absurd pretext of the "nuclear program" of the DPRK, thus threatening its sovereignty.
    Referring to the system in the DPRK, he went on:
    Whether the system in the DPRK is to somebody's liking or not is a matter not to be decided on by a third party but by the Korean people.
    The world should support Korea's reunification.
    The U.S. should be wholly responsible for all the consequences as it has pursued a hostile policy toward the DPRK.
    The DPRK proposed to conclude a non-aggression treaty with the U.S. for the settlement of the nuclear issue.
    But the U.S. rejected the offer.
    In a word, the DPRK has always exerted efforts to defend itself from the U.S. threat but the latter has posed a constant threat to the former.
    Its threat, blackmail, blockade, sanctions and discrimination against the DPRK are unreasonable.
    The world should respect everything peculiar to the DPRK and develop exchange with it.

Kim Jong Il's work published in Russia

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let us reunify the country independently and peacefully through the great unity of the entire nation" was brought out in booklet by the Paleya Publishing House in Russia on February 14. The work was published on April 18, Juche 87 (1998). Clarified in it is the historical five-point policy of great national unity, the guideline in achieving the great unity of the Korean nation.
    The five-point policy requires for the whole nation to base on the principle of national independence, unite under the banner of patriotism, the banner of national reunification, improve the inter-Korean relations, struggle against the domination and interference of foreign forces and the anti-reunification forces and strengthen the contact, dialogue and solidarity.

Collection of Kim Jong Il's works published in Germany

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A collection of Kim Jong Il's works was brought out by the Communist Party of Germany. The collection contains works "On having a correct viewpoint and understanding of the Juche philosophy" and "Our socialism centered on the masses shall not perish".

DPRK-targeted war exercises condemned

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) - The U.S. and South Korean militaries announced that they would stage large-scale joint war exercises from early march. The exercises are not ordinary military drills but premeditated and provocative war games aimed to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK in view of the scale of troops and arms to be involved in them and their contents and nature, says Minju Joson today in a commentary. Such joint military exercises for this year assume more dangerous nature as they are to be staged at a time when the U.S. imperialists are reinforcing their armed forces in and around South Korea and escalating the military pressure upon the DPRK under the pretext of its "nuclear development", the commentary notes, and goes on:
    Huge armed forces of the U.S. imperialists have already been deployed in and around South Korea and measures taken to cope with possible contingency. So, nobody can predict when the above-said exercises will go over to real action.
    In actuality, the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula is increasing due to the U.S. imperialists' adventurous war games and the regional situation is inching close to the brink of war.
    The DPRK, which stands for the peace and peaceful reunification of the country, can never remain an onlooker to such dangerous war maneuvers of the U.S. imperialists.
    The U.S. imperialists should promptly stop the reckless moves to provoke a new war.

Korean-style buildings

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- There are many modern buildings with gable roofs in Korea. The Korean-style buildings reflect feelings, aspiration and talents of the sagacious nation proud of a 5,000-year-long history and long-standing cultural traditions.
    Typical of them are the Grand People's Study House in the center of Pyongyang, the Pyongyang Grand Theatre and the Okryu Restaurant on the bank of the River Taedong and the People's Palace of Culture on the bank of the River Pothong, the International Friendship Exhibition and the Kaesong Koryo Folk Hotel.
    Many years ago, President Kim Il Sung worked out a far-sighted plan to build towns along with modern buildings of Korean style.
    Kim Jong Il, true to his intention, has wisely led the efforts to implement it in the building of towns, valuing the architectural heritage of the nation.
    Korean-style buildings have been built and rebuilt on an expansion basis throughout the country, adding national features to streets and towns.
    In recent years, the General Hospital of Koryo Medicine and the Kanggye Chicken Entrails Soup House were built in a Korean style.

DPRK unfazed by any threat of tougher economic blockade

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Although the U.S. bellicose forces are keen to impose tougher economic sanctions on the DPRK while persisting in their political and ideological offensives to isolate and stifle it, it remains unfazed by the threat. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
    The invincible might of the Korean socialist system lies in the single-hearted unity of the leader, the army and the people.
    The man-centred socialist system in the DPRK is politically, ideologically, militarily and economically indestructible.
    Therefore, there is no need for the DPRK to get anything by threatening someone nor for it to get its "system guaranteed" by someone. Everything is going well in the DPRK. Nothing can destroy its socialist system. The U.S. warhawks are now floating a variety of misinformation about the just measures taken by the DPRK to cope with their moves to isolate and stifle it. But it is an expression of ignorance of the DPRK.
    The DPRK's proposal for concluding a non-aggression treaty with the U.S. is winning positive support from the world people.
    Much upset by this, the U.S. is resorting to false propaganda in a bid to shirk off the blame for the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and strike the DPRK. But it is a serious miscalculation.
    The U.S. should stop this smear campaign and its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK.

U.S. commits aerial espionage on DPRK

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist warhawks illegally intruded RC-135 strategic reconnaissance plane into the territorial air of the DPRK to spy on it on Feb. 24. The plane belonging to the U.S. Forces took off its overseas base at around 9:30 Monday morning. It illegally intruded into the air above the territorial waters of the DPRK between Musudan and Wonsan bay in the East Sea and spied on the DPRK for hours, supported by KC-135 refuelling tanker.
    This reconnaissance plane made shuttle flights in the air above the same territorial waters of the DPRK for more than 10 hours on Feb. 21, 22 and 23 to spy on important targets along the east coast of the DPRK.
    This is a premeditated move to find an opportunity to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
    This provocation is timed to coincide with the large-scale joint military exercises including Rsoi and Foal Eagle exercise to be staged by the U.S. imperialists from early March after bolstering huge aggression troops in and around the Korean Peninsula under the absurd pretext of the "nuclear issue" of the DPRK.
    The U.S. warhawks are well advised not to run amuck, well aware of the grave consequences to be entailed by their intrusion and espionage committed against the DPRK at a time when the situation on the Korean Peninsula has got extremely tense.

Greetings to Amir of Kuwait

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Monday sent a message of greetings to Jaber al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, Amir of State of Kuwait, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of its National Day and the 12th anniversary of its liberation day. Expressing belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to favorably develop in the future, too, he wished the Amir and the people of Kuwait greater success in their work for the prosperity of the country, peace and stability in the region.

South side's delegation leaves

     Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The south side's delegation to the north-south joint exhibition of materials on the crimes related to the Japanese imperialists' forcible drafting of Koreans led by Kang Man Gil, president of Sangji University of South Korea, left here today by air. It was seen off by Ri Jong Hyok, vice-chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, and other officials concerned.
